NASA: 3-D Visualization System

There's monitors that exist out there that are 20 layers deep, so you have 1024x768x20 resolution, and these allow a semi 3D projection, based on the way light hits off of it. It's commercially available but *EXPENSIVE*. We've got several 3D visualization utilities and a volumetric display over here - the tech is there but it's much too expensive for the public.

If you think about it....3D holograms wouldnt really add anything to the gaming experience anyway, unless it was virtual reality-like. Or had VR elements such as bullets whizzing past your head in an FPS.

But would be useless for anything else...

Oh yeah. For sure. Better graphics are ALWAYS useless. ... it's not even just better graphics.. I don't know if you think it's useless just whatever @ you.

:-\ I'm at a loss for words.

meh. think of it this way, something much less advanced, but still incredibly powerful and expensive: Silicon Graphics Onyx2 Reality Engine visualization systems. we are talking about plain 3D polygon texture mapped graphics on a monitor here. no holograms or anything. this came out in 1992. it was not until 1996 that we had a fraction of its capability in the Nintendo 64.

who knows how long it'll be before we get something like this NASA 3D Visualization System in videogame consoles....

lol...what? Seriously, what good is a 3D image hologram floating in mid-air going to do? Allow us to walk around it? How would it enhance games? Not like we can touch them.

What if it's on glasses? That way it WILL affect you. Let's say in an FPS someone shoots at you and you see the bullets come to you with a 3D projection effect. I know it will affect me seeing bullets\what not approching me like that :lol

And maybe the NASA 3D visualization thing is for arcade machines.
