this is news? i have pictures in my astronomy textbook of water on mars..

Yea, if I recall correctly, Mars does have some polar ice caps that *supposedly*, and I say supposedly because of the source I read it from, melted during the space race age. Very interesting though.

Edit: Beaten, damn you.

Water on Mars doesn't necessarily confirm life, right? For all we know, other life forms could subsist on carbon monoxide.

Or does it just prove that a HUMAN life form could possibly exist on Mars?

This proves that humans came from Mars.

It proves that there is water on mars

I would assume that it is possible that microscopic life forms could have or do exist in the water. The lander has a microscope on it so I assume we can find out.

Huzzah!

After seeing Guido Beach I can't wait to get out of here.

The only thing worse than guidos is the potential of Martian guidos.

my mind gets blown when i really think about mars.

we see it as red dirt, nothing more.

but when you think about it has a huge surface area.

there are still secrets to uncover on earth from digging and searching. especially in the ocean floor.

we have yet to do massive digging on the planet.

James Cameron - the man who is fucking obsessed with exploring the deep ocean floor; wants to go to Mars. The beacon is lit.

Wouldn't it be possible for another race or "beings" if you will to not need water to exist? What if something else besides water is their key to life?

people say that space is so huge and that their are so many universes... that maybe at least one planet has similar conditions to support life like earth.

if life could exist somehow without similar conditions then... out of all the universes... that raises the chances doesn't it?

Oh shit! Are you saying they have ACID FOR BLOOD?

I say we nuke Mars from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

Yes, but we can't look everywhere in the universe, we instead target planets with conditions similar to Earth (ie. in habitable zone, has water etc.).

Am I the only one that has a slight problem with the source of a story about NASA (which is after all a US space agency) being the BBC?

Hmm, why would the ever-so-slightly increased chance of life on another planet bother our current administration?

Hmm, I can't think why...

Where's life then?
Mars is essentially in the same orbit...Mars is somewhat the same distance from the Sun, which is very important. We have seen pictures where there are canals, we believe, and water. If there is water, that means there is oxygen. If oxygen, that means we can breathe.
