Natural Selection 2: Exosuit Reveal Trailer

Feels like this game has been in development forever.

Every trade show they show some game play, yet no closer to a release.

They're most recent builds have had drastic improvements over the first alpha they released (those were some unplayable days back then...). I'm also sure that every preorder is guaranteed into the public beta. It's extremely fun. There should also be a ton of impressions and videos of the public beta around as well.

Thank god they finally brought heavies back into the picture.

Based on their performance in the trailer, I'm assuming these are going to be pricier and less prominent in late-game than heavies were in NS1. Hopefully that balances well in the end.

That looks amazing, looking forward to see how they're going to balance it out (right now the balance is fantastic, I almost don't want them to create ripples with that exosuit). Also worth noting that pre-orders after September 4th are not going to get instant beta access.

I only started playing Natural Selection 2 a few weeks ago, but it is a lot of fun. Wish I had more time to play it, but having a power-house on the human side is definitely welcome.

Is the game actually playable now? Last I played, a few months ago, it was still plagued by really poor netcode and stuttering.

As others have said, it's gotten much better, both in netcode and gameplay mechanics. I didn't experience previously, but I've had no issues with it while playing it in the first month, though they're still updating it continually.

This patch has yet to release yet but they said they really improved the physics code or something leading to a healthy performance boost. I'll post again later tonight regarding the details.

That trailer is just badass by the way

100% playable. I had it uninstalled for 6 months.. reinstalled a few weeks back and its the only thing I'm playing besides Guild Wars 2 honestly. The game is SUPER polished now and tons of new features.

Reinstall, stat.

As a long time NS player, it absolutely kills me inside that I can't play this game :( my poor little E-350 netbook just can't handle it.

That said, this christmas I know what I'm getting. A fucking desktop to play this game. I will literally spend $600 to play this game.

This is the most recent NS2 thread, so I'll post this here: just got an email from Unknown Worlds to reveal...

We are also announcing our "Deluxe" edition, which you get for _free_ if you have already pre-ordered the game. This edition includes the full NS2 soundtrack, a digital art book, a new in-game marine model, and more.

As an extra thanks to all of you that have pre-ordered, we are also giving you a _free copy of NS2_! This gift copy will arrive on Steam soon and you will be able to give it to any friend you want to play with.

hells yea

My reasonably powerful desktop can't handle it on high settings at a reasonable framerate yet, which is kind of disappointing. At least I think it's framerate that's the issue.

I love love love what they have done with the exosuits here. They feel so powerful to use but the way that they are balanced is just superb. For one, they require a large amount of resources. Secondly, teamwork is essential as you need other people to weld them for maximum efficiency. My favourite part though, is the fact that they cannot be beaconed back to base. For the uninitiated, beaconing is something that the marine commander can do to mass-teleport the entire marine team, used mostly for defence or coordinating large attacks. One time our team was forced into a base trade scenario due to the fact that if our commander was to beacon, only half our team would go back whilst our expensive but easily overwhelmed exosuits would be left stranded. We had to commit to our attack as half our team was too slow to respond to our base being destroyed. It's great stuff.

Also they added NS_Veil, which is a remake of a map from the original Natural Selection. Still plays well despite the mechanics changes, and I'm glad that they are getting bigger maps now.

Loving 217 and 218. I would give away my free copy but I am giving it to my little brother.

I am surprised this game does not have more love on GAF. Basically a Gafer's wet dream.

Also, I was thinking about making the OT for this game when it releases. Anyone wanna get together with me on that endeavor?

So hype. Natural Selection was tons of fun. Seems like so long ago...

Had some buddies that played this game almost cream themselves when they were playing at PAX. I enjoyed it as well after never having played/heard of it before. Can't wait to play!

Just pre-purchased. So many good times with NS 1.0x and 2.0.

Hopefully there's gonna be a decent competitive scene this time around, was certainly lacking with the last game :(

Just nitpicking, but ns_veil was only added in 2.0 ;)

btw, are the maps designed by new guys or do they have some of the old ones providing their maps?

Been playing the Beta for a few days now.

Wow...I am so glad I got this. It's extremely fun and the community is amazing. One of the best online gaming communities I've seen in awhile.

Still counts! :p

Is BH/strafejump still in the game? And can you hide the weapon models?

Nope for the first one, and i'm not sure about the second but i hope not because that would give a pretty unfair advantage to skulks where attacking intentionally lowers your ability to see.

As am I, between this game and Dark Souls I am in heaven at the moment.

Also here's a screenshot of a recent game that turned into Mechwarrior after we dominated economically the whole game. So fun to just steamroll at the end.

(Textures on medium because I occasionally get fps dips when it is on high, also a terribly compressed Steam screenshot)

They nailed the feel of the exosuit, dual chaingun is extremely badass. This game definitely needs more love on GAF though, it's like the ultimate indie game.

Like others, I am hoping NS2 gets more love on PAX. I have been having a blast with a beta, and agree that the community is really good. I think more people would fall in love with it if they only knew about it (or got to try it, I admit in screenshots I have gotten some wrong impressions of what to expect from the game).

This reminded me of a video posted on the NS2 twitter account that explains why the mechanics of the game are conducive to a good, helpful community. It really rings true for me.

Had epic NS2 matches the other day.

Played as alien. Marines locked down almost all the hive spots.
Rallied and got one hive spot opened and harassed their bases.
Got the third hive up, but they started pouring in Exosuits.

Because Exosuits are slow, we played merry go around with hive spots and taking more resources than they are killing hives. Eventually won the game by chipping them down.

Been looking forward to this. Loved the first game. I honestly haven't been following too much on it, since its taken them so long to release it. They were talking about the sequel back when source was announced. I'm looking forward to giving it a try. Hopefully I will be able to pick it up some time soon after the release.

kinda wish i didn't drop 50 bucks for the Black armor marine back in the day, when now everyone is getting it (i think) now for 25 with the free dd upgrade.

also the close combat (as a skulk) felt ... mushy and unresponsive. I'm probably just too used to tf2 though...

Celerity and Strafing.

Sometimes it's hard to gauge how many times you need to bite.

It seems like this has been in development for ten years. The original was my favorite HL mod by a mile, so many hours spent in it. Cant wait for October.

I believe they said that there will be a new set of armor for the people who initially preordered that DD people will not get. So as someone who preordered before it was on Steam, you'll have 3 skins to choose from, whereas if you preorder on Steam you'll only have 2 skins (original and black)

good, I want to feel special online.

Anyone ever play School of Darwinism server on classic NS?
I'm Xeno. Just checking if any other NS'ers here on GAF.

Anywho, I really hate how all the guns look. Dunno, they just rub me the wrong way. The pistol looks weird. The LMG looks weird. The shotgun looks ok. Like, they don't look fun to shoot at all.

This is one of those games which happens to have the particular and special attention of a GAF moderator. I'll do my best to give this game additional attention.

Guns4Back2School here, along with ZombieSupaStar, if I recall correctly. I preferred larger games.
