Natural Selection 2: Exosuit Reveal Trailer

This is one of those games which happens to have the particular and special attention of a GAF moderator. I'll do my best to give this game additional attention.

Guns4Back2School here, along with ZombieSupaStar, if I recall correctly. I preferred larger games.

Yeah, g4bs, know them well. I created School of Darwinism actually. It was 32p though, so it was large. I did specialize in siege maps though. Thats what the server was pretty much known for. Ohh God how I loved siege maps. Hopefully NS2 will be able to have those maps.

I quit before they added all the different map types. I played on the H2O servers back in the day.

I tried playing the game a few years later and you couldn't dodge turrets, they pretty much never missed. Never played again, even though I had the most kills on my team and I played gorge for the first 10 minutes.

very fun game. if you guys want to try out the original ns, the united states has the evolve.ns server whilst europe has wonga.ns. both active and decently moderated.

All I remember is the seige map with the secret room loaded with porn all over the walls.

Hahaha, ohh they all had porn.

But yeah, siege maps. Damn, I love that initial faceoff. Both teams just packed and ready, waiting for that door to open, and then when it opens.....chaos. Bullets flying everywhere, fade acid rockets just zooming by, grenades exploding.

Seige isn't that popular anymore. ns_veil or death when it comes to the remaining community.

Ok that game was completely off my radar.

What is this game all about and why should i care as hardcore gamer ? Why this game is much loved by GAF ?

The worst thing about NS2 is that it seems to have been the last nail in the coffin of the US NS1 community. I was still playing that up to a year and a half ago, but now it seems to have disappeared. Europe is still around, but the ping is way to high to have fun.

I personally love the way it blends so many different styles of gameplay into one balanced multiplayer experience, as well as the heavy focus on strategy. Makes each new match more dynamic than other multiplayer shooters. Also I love the aesthetics and atmosphere, being a fan of Aliens.

This is an RTS/FPS hybrid. Trying to keep it very simple: the first half of the game is an aliens vs. marines first person shooter. For most of the players in the game, you're either an alien or marine, and you're attacking the enemy in first person. That's pretty straightforward, right?

But then each side has a commander, also played by a real person decided on at the beginning of each match. This commander has a substantially different view of the game map, looking at the action from top down. To keep it very brief, for this commander, the game is like an RTS where the units are played by real people.

Just like in an RTS, there are resource nodes to capture which provide the commanders the ability to provide you more upgrades and equipment. The goal is to destroy the enemy base; games typically take 20-30 minutes each to start up, take map control and evolve the units, and then come to a completion.

I think this game is absolutely fantastic.

That's awasome concept. targets are directed by commander ? So for eg. Some place needs backup and then commander issue order for near unit to go there ?

Yep. If you're a marine, the commands show up on your map and in your vision and you can see it through walls, etc. The commander can issue commands to hold a waypoint, attack a target, proceed to a new location, guard a structure, build a new structure (for example, the marines have "phase gates" which allow them to instantly teleport from their main base to a new location, providing a quick way to reinforce an advanced location) among other things.

If you don't do what the commander wants, nothing explicitly stops you -- although the commander is unlikely to help you. He can drop people health, ammo, shields, etc., and commanders are much less likely to support you if you go off and rambo. In my experience, it works pretty well and very few marines go off alone and act like idiots.

Something has to be said about being real "units" under the direction of a commander. It is the ALIENS simulator folks have always wanted...or, essentially, the folks who bought Lee Brimmicombe-Woods' Colonial Marine Technical Manual are the folks who really enjoy the emergent team-play under a controller.

Something really special.
