Naughty Dog May Have Two Multiplayer Games in Development

The Naughty Dog listing for a QA Tester isn't out of the ordinary in terms of responsibilities or goals. Those who apply and are hired will need to be able to identify, log, and maintain gameplay issues; do bug regression testing when applicable; have a working knowledge of the PS4 and PS5 ecosystems; have the ability to accept additional responsibilities, as needed; and more. The listing also states that the QA tester will be bringing a high level of sensibility and attention to detail to the company's "first standalone multiplayer project" but also follows that up by defining the role as "quality assurance/development support with a focus on our multiplayer titles [emphasis added]."

Now, it's entirely possible that this ambiguity is intentional or that this is something as simple as a typo, but if it's not a typo, then it could very well be a slight reference to at least two multiplayer games in development at Naughty Dog. It's hard to say for sure, and given how little is known about the multiplayer Last of Us-related game, it's possible the second is very early in development and unconnected to prior ND work. Either way, the company is likely to focus on this first multiplayer game this year and not reference the second publicly, for some time to come.

Could be a typo or refer to multiple SKUs. Good catch. I think TLOU online is going to launch in March and will be massive.

There better be a single player story campaign somewhere in there Naughty Dog, don't play with me

It wouldn't surprise me if their new IP featured a multiplayer mode because most of their games since the PS3 area came with a multiplayer mode.

I hear they have seasons passes, twitch drops, login bonuses, multiple currencies, cosmetics, always online, coop, trading cards, hubs and lootboxes. Big hiring spree to create them all 🥳

Hopefully they'll have a blowout for this soon, I can't wait to see what they've been cooking!

This should be real topic of discussion, instead of fear mongering over future of xbox in that other thread.

Sony being sneaky with what they are developing cannot be good.

TLOU : Tarkov flavor - extraction shooter where you skulk across a full metro area and suburbs
TLOU : Outbreak flavor - Coop game with mini-campaigns and scenarios spanning from outbreak day to the present

Both please.

Their mp games are good. Looking forward.

U4 was great. TLoU mp was really intense and fun but had pay to win guns which was not cool.

Over the course of this generation, we're going to see Naughty Dog increase in size to a company more akin to Rockstar and CDPR.

They'll probably be larger than Bungie by the end of the generation. They'll probably be over a thousand employees by the end of this year.

If TLOU Online turns out to be a hit, if TLOUP1 does well on PC, eventually P2 will get a PC port as well. Can't forget about rumors of them creating a sister studio to work on Uncharted.

Their main games usually have multiplayer, TLoU2 development was too long and troubled so they decided to release only the single player and eventually its multiplayer mode became a stand alone game.
Their next project of course will have multiplayer, just like Uncharted games and The Last of Us.

Definitely not. At this point Naughty Dog are working on:
Factions (this has probably the majority of the studio, with many new job postings being about this and its future content roadmaps)
The Last of Us Part 1 PC (relatively small team)
The Last of Us Part 2 PC/PS5 (highly likely, probably the devs above will move to this after Part 1)
The Last of Us Part 3 / New IP (medium sized team)
Uncharted 5 (small number of people from ND working as guides for the Visual Arts team)
If Naughty Dog was the size of Bungie at 1000+ in-house devs, then yes, working on a second MP game would be probable, but they are not even half of that.

Taking in mind that they are helping with Uncharted 5 development (which is mainly made by some other studio) could also mean, they also are helping with its multiplayer part.

I think you're looking at this wrong.

Factions is a big project, but I believe Neil said the other project that they're working on is even bigger than that. We don't know what that is, but I think we can assume it is an original IP and not related to the last of us.

We have no idea how far along Factions is. It could be done right now.

TLOU PC is pretty much done and they're working out bugs and might not even be internally developed

TLOU2 PC/PS5 might not even be internally developed.

TLOUP3 might not even be in earnest production

Uncharted 5 isn't just VA, they're build a new studio around it from the rumors.

So the number of games in full earnest would be maybe Factions and this original IP, and maybe they've started another multiplatform game... seems pretty well within their wheelhouse if they aren't doing Uncharted (based on what Neil said).

It has already been in production, but it's not exactly a "Naughty sister" studio. The new team is part of the San Diego studio.

I mean technically any studio under the PlayStation Studios banner would be a sister studio, that said their ties to this new studio will be closer than their ties to Insomniac, which is often referred to as a sister studio to Naughty Dog.

Imagine working for one of these scrub websites and having to scour through every linkin profile and job listing just to find some tidbit to transform into a "news" story.
