What in the unholy fuck are most of you guys on around here?

I did not buy Live this year,I DID HOWEVER BUY 2K6,so would all of you please get it through your fucking dense ass heads that I do not care who makes the fucking game?Christ people.

The jerseys in that video fuckin moved like an ocean tide on the back part, looked like a water bed or some shit, don't tell me jerseys move like that in real life because they don't :lol

there's probably even better examples, but watch the last 10 seconds of this video.

Not a real good example, but like I said it just looks over exaggerated to me,in one of the 2K vids the jersey is like moving all crazy even when Shaq is just sorta standing still.

It's not even close. Trust me, not close. EA's models have too much contrast, unrealistic eyes, and are just not realistic. Even the sweat on the Piston's players isn't realistic, it's stylistic. If you've ever done art at all, you know they teach you to do the lines by contrast. Shade this side darker, and the line or edge rather begins when that shading gets darker or lighter. That's what real life is. It makes the picture more realistic as a whole, rather than having a side colored in, then a line drawn on the edge.

Now check Lebron's muscles in Live. there's lines for here muscles begin and end. Dark areas. Entirely dark. Then a sudden change to the color of his skin. 2k6 works into every line, every shaded area. This speaking from a purely pic vs. pic comparison, as I'm not as knowledgable in game's engines and what they use to get their effect.

EA seems to be working off of what they think looks good. 2k6 works off what they think looks real. Under Lebron's eyes they're dark, shadowing EA thinks. 2k6 works the shadowing also under his forehead, the dip into the eyes. Except they work it in, and use a lot more tones. Slightly darker here, lighter here. The picture works as a whole. EA thinks and renders what looks good individually. There's no unison it the bottom line. So yes, it looks like a game as someone said. 2k6 looks like a link between a game and real. And I knew this was going to happen. KNEW IT.

This next generation was going to establish and seperate the serious artists from those who were able to hide behind lack of technology last gen. It's just common sense that when all the tools are available, some put em to use for creating a more realistic canvas, and some put em to use wherever they can find use for them. But fundamentally a lot of games are flawed, and a lot of developers lack certain skill. So you're getting all these effects and they're not sure where to put em. It's a mesh of styles and techniques, where as the true masters of their craft are creating incredible realistic imagery. Videogames are definitely becoming a more defined art.

Not a good example? Hell the guy in the tennis video's shirt and shorts were moving more wildly than anything in NBA2K's .

Someone post a pic of a PSONE Live game and a PS2 live game. I don't think I can even remember the jump from one to two.

They seriously took out the franchise mode? The fuck?!?

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/655/655403p1.html

With most any series transition to next-generation consoles, some longtime features have to be dropped in order to meet deadlines. This is especially true for sports games these days as they're almost all replete with deep franchise modes, create-a-player options, additional gameplay types and more. That means no dunk contest, no three-point shootout, and no Superstar Freestyle moves.

NBA Live 06 for the Xbox 360 has had to scale a few of these features back, so EA based its feature set on what it figured players would look to as being most important. A priority was placed on customizing players, so a create-a-player option is set up in the game. We haven't had a chance to check out that aspect yet, but hopefully it'll allow you enough control that you can create a nearly photorealistic recreation of yourself on the court.

The create-a-player features come in lieu of a full franchise mode, however. You'll have to make due with playing through a single season at a time, unable to carry over stats or create a new dynasty with your team. We haven't seen how deep the single season mode runs, though we'd guess that it'll be pretty bare-bones.

Though it's unfortunate that EA has had to leave out a full franchise mode for the first incarnation of Live on the next-gen systems, the other tweaks to the game's on-court camera, the slick menu system, the visuals of course and whatever else we haven't seen yet looks like a nice first step. We're hoping that EA has set itself up for the future in a way that we can't fathom yet, and that the Live series will continue to evolve into something that really meets the definition of next-generation.

Well thankfully they were able to get that season mode in.

The lineup to pay $60 for barebones product is on your left.

I just find these comments extremely amusing, tell me Fixed and Shinobi, where have I praised Live over 2K6 in this thread?I didn't buy Live, have no intentions of buying Live,I bought 2K6,I'm participating in the GAF league,so really what ground do you guys have to back up these comments?Nothing, that's what, yet you still throw in your comments like you're some kind of comedian hoping that someone at GAF,the worst place in the world to find any kind of sports knowledge in an unbiased form, to back you up with 15 laughing smilies.

The NBA Live '97 pic is one of the greatest in history! :lol

I can't believe I used to play 3d games which looked so poor. Ugh. Even current gen sports games are starting to look like crap to me.

I don't remember Live 03 looking that bad. My standards must be rising...

As for the Live v. 2k6 debate, it's undebateable. 2k6 has better shading and I'm willing to bet is has better cloth movements too, judging from the "predetermined" look of the uniform's position. Live still doesn't have good sweat, they really shouldn't even bother. Like the above poster said, Live is a style, 2k6 is real.

I have to agree with you, that the jersey are a little bit too fluid, almost like they are made of silk. But 2k6 still looks leaps and bounds better than Live. As I see it this is a first generation 360 game, so I can live with a little extra flowiness of jerseys.

I still have my copy of NBA Live '96. Interesting development schedule, that one had...

I still have it too, I remember hotly anticipating it and then finding out it was delayed until Spring '96 (the 16-bit versions came out in fall '95). When I got it, I was not so impressed....

Also, the tool people use for CG or game engines is computers. The thing a pc is best at it geometry. Making boxes, straight lines. It's a cold calculating tool. So no wonder where EA seems to impress most is the stadiums. That's more labor than art. They're a fundamentally different kind of developer. They know the system, the tools, and the craft of programming. It's not the same as an artistic achievement. Something organic takes manipulating the tools to do what you want. Kojima's team is master at this, so no wonder they impressed as they did. And being a warzone, they have a lot of organic stylings. A wall is geometric, something best done with a computer. But blow it up and it becomes as real and organic as the earth's landscape. Where as PGR is a bit colder, more calculating. But for the type of game, and creating a city especially, it is perfect. And the cars are really the one change-of-pace in developing that game. Once they did that beautifully and started rendering the environments perfectly, you got a hell of a good looking game.

Again, I wish we would have had NFL2k6 this next generation, just to push EA and Madden. Considering what they did last gen, if they fixed their player models the game could have looked incredible on 360 or PS3.

O RLY?

it's fine, Learn 2 play

After seeing next gen games, most current gen games are usually eyesores to me as far as shots go. Personally while I think 2k6 looks maginally better than Live, Wade's 2k6 model is way off. Still with such a neutered version of Live on 360, 2k6 looks like the game to get.

2k6 does look better IMO.. But Live isnt looking bad at all. I think Live is the best looking nextgen EA game right now, also I believe that the Live models are more detailed, too bad the lighting, texturing and shading isnt looking better than the 2k6 models. 2k6 allready has very good animation and somewhat exaggarated(some patterns look like sine waves unfortunately) cloth movement simulation, and Live has not showed anything of that sort yet... so Live can look pretty bad in motion, hopefully not though.

i was squinting so much that after a while i realised my eyes were closed. funnily enough, that was when it was most realistic.

The guy on the right kinda looks like Norman Smiley.

Live is boasting some impressive stuff like polycount and such, but 2K6 is more impressive simply because of the more realistic color palette and super high res textures, despite a far lower poly count.

:lol at NBA Live '97. Back in the PS1 days, whenever anyone asked me what I thought about the graphics on PS1 during that time, I always answered that they didn't really impress me. This reminds me why! :D
