NBC's Community Official Thread - the next Arrested Development/Office/30 Rock?

Just watched the new episode online and I gotta say I normally only watch science, sports, and movies on tv, never really can get into the comedies but I caught the 3rd episode on tv and I am hooked and have been watching ever since. Are all sitcoms this good? The characters are great. The subplots are consistently funny. Joel Mchale is gold and the show has two major hotties. I don't get the hate for Chevy though? So far but his one-liners have me busting up. I love his character.

edit: :lol @ the football team roster. You caught a glimpse of a little person, an old guy with a long white beard, and at one point Troy says "is that a pregnant lady?"

this is TOTALLY a personal preference but the only time the show bothers me is when they veer into farrelly brothers type jokes and tone

I'm glad Abed saw himself out of the episode, I like his character, but its good to see that the show can work without relying on him half the time. Good to see the writers caught on and tried this.

I liked that they acknowledged it by breaking down that fourth wall. Really, really cool (and funny at the same time).

Pierce: ''Ohh Dean I'm gonna get some more coffee, you want anything?''
Dean: ''A Desmond Tutu with just enough cream to make it a Lou Diamond Phillips.''
Pierce: "Ahh, a La Bamba!"

I love how they never seem complacent with the jokes. They always try and push it one or two steps beyond the expected punchline.

My favorite part from last night:

"Football's in your blood!

That's racist.

It's in your soul?

Now that's racist.

It's in your eyes?

That's gay.

That's homophobic."

Can anyone help with the rest of the conversation? I was rolling. :)

Your soul?

That's racist.

Your eyes?

That's gay?

That's homophobic.

That's black.

THAT's racist!

Damn."

I just noticed this in my second watch of the episode. So fucking awesome. :lol
You didn't notice the first time? They basically swatted you over the head with it.

Loved how they tied in him "laying low" and discreetly put him in the Human Being costume at the end. :lol

pretty much my favorite comedy on TV... it's now edged out office as the first thing I'll watch on the DVR for the week and up with office and 30 rock as the only shows I absolutely will not miss during the week.

the ending skits are routinely the funniest thing about the show, and that's saying A LOT. "I'm not Hadji from Johnny Quest!!!!!"

I missed the beginning.

They made a pretty good point imo in the AV Club about Annie taking over as foil for Jeff when it looked like Britta would play that role at first:
What I find increasingly interesting about the show is how often one of the other characters ends up bouncing between Jeff and Annie, not Jeff and Britta, as it seemed might happen from the pilot. Jeff, of course, is the grizzled cynic who’s just trying to skate his way through life, and while the show was trying to paint Britta as his opposite – the idealist who wants the world to be a better place – it turns out, instead, that Annie, with her naïve nature and goody two shoes personality, is the better foil for Jeff. By bouncing one of the characters between the two of them, the show not only figures those two out, it manages to develop the character caught in between as well.

Yeah, agreed with that AVclub quote. I liked last night's episode a lot more than they seemed to. I laughed quite a bit during it.
They did like this week's better than last's. That does seem like a low grade for them but in the text they seemed to like it, other than being thrown be the eps being out of order (which they complained about last week too), if we're going to get all Gaming Side up in here.

I can understand the out-of-order things feeling like an issue. The Annie/Troy romance kind of snuck up into this episode.

It occurs to me that unless Joel McHale is abnormally tall, Allison Brie must be like 5 feet and 70 pounds because she looks like a freaking midget next to him.

Joel Mchale is 6'3".

Also, Joel McHale used to be...I think a linebacker, right? I know he played football.
Yeah, he played in college. And yeah, being well over six feet tall makes him look like a freakish giant compared to most other guys on television, since most male actors are short.

I was watching an Alison Brie interview and you know what? Her eyes and general profile reminded me of someone and I couldn't place my finger on it. Then it hit me, she's Charlotte Church if Charlotte Church didn't become a BBW.

FULL SEASON PICKUP! :D
NBC has picked up full seasons of Thursday-night comedies "Community" and "Parks and Recreation," as well as its Wednesday night medical drama "Mercy."

All three have shown stability in their time periods in recent weeks.

“We are very pleased with the critical and audience reaction to our wonderful new comedy ‘Community,’” said NBC entertainment president Angela Bromstad. “The cast and producers are delivering a first-rate, quality show that is very promising as the newest of NBC’s first-rate Thursday-night comedies.”

Yea, if your annie avatar is looping an movement that is 5 milliseconds long....you really should consider just getting a static image.

Old man Murtaugh looks like he can't handle the hot moves of Allison Brie.

Broken link, but awesome news nonetheless! Good call, NBC :)

Just wish they'd move its timeslot again so it doesn't overlap with FlashForward

Great episode last night. With this, Curb, Sunny, and Modern Family all firing on all cylinders, the sit-com, such as it is, is in far better shape than it has been in years.

Almost makes up for the lacking Office and 30 Rock this season.

The best part is Joel's character following up with, "You can check them out later" :lol

I thought he said "You can hit that later" about the pregnant lady.

And probably goes some way to explaining why hardly any of his clothes seem to fit him since men clothing sizes typically have length and width increases as they go up in size. Nothing seems to fit him and just hangs off him. Same problem on The Soup. He only seems to look good when wearing a suit which is probably tailored. I would have thought NBC money could solve this wardrobe problem.

You do realize that by criticizing Annie avatars you're not going to make any friends in this thread anytime soon.[/QUOTE]
Yeah, but the looping of a 1 second gif is distracting and annoying. Why not just make it the static end face that Annie has there? That would be better, I think.
