NBC's Community Official Thread - the next Arrested Development/Office/30 Rock?

never even heard of this, but just happened to catch the last 2 minutes of the office and check this out. thought it was funny. better than the office for sure. set my dvr to record the rest of the season.

Good chemistry, great comedic timing. I hope John Oliver is a regular but the rest of the cast seems like they can carry it in any case. I'm in.

I'm hopeful, but this would almost have to literally blow my socks off for me to ever admit that it's better than Arrested Development. As far as I'm concerned, nothing comes close.

So what you're saying is that if it's better and you know it in your heart, you most likely won't tell the truth about the show and your future impressions are now invalidated? Okay.

I'm going to write this before I read any of the rest of the thread (note: I am drunk so excuse any typos)...

Goo d show. I enjoyed it. I t was pretty good. If I had one word for it, it'd ber: "I liked it, and I watched it again."

Overalll, I would watch it agan.

Fantastic pilot. Can't wait for more. Definitely reminds me of being back in college. I didn't go to a community college, but the show lives up to all the stereotypes. Good setting for a show.

I agree its a goo setting, bt the legitimate lgal dude is a bit lard hittin and ==========he i s not very convurrent. In whilst he is a goos character. I liekd the show overall and I enjoyed th comedyy of it. Overal I thought it was really good, but I hoep tha tthtey can keep up tehe goodness fo it.

edit: I'll edit these posts tomorrow morning at work, if I have time. I'm expending all my leftover soberness to write this edit. I hope that I can fulfill this edit tomorrow morning so I don't seem like too much of an ass.

This was decent enough that I'll watch a few more eps to see if it improves, because while it really wasn't very funny I could see some potential.

It was nice to see John Oliver on something other than the Daily Show.

A negative opinion on a TV show from dead souls? Shock.

Yeah... actually, that's pretty much what I'm saying. :lol

Rewatching this now... when they're all arguing in the background while Jeff is talking to Britta the black dude says something like "I'm the Barack Obama of this room" :lol

:lol I thought I heard that.

Thought it was really good, especially for a pilot. I can see a lot of AD humor in this already. Brown dudes schtick might get old pretty fast though. Probably the least enjoyable character so far.

I got the shows mixed up.

The worst show I saw tonight was Parks and Recreation. Horrible.
Holy shit, it was the funniest. Fucking non-stop jokes. Especially with the inside RAAAAAAAANDY joke.

Really dug it. More than I expected to, and I was looking forward to it.

Characters and chemistry are really good, Trudy is hot as hell (Mad Men <3). Just a few more lol laughs amidst the cleverness and wordplay and it'll be golden.

I expect good things.

8 Rs. :lol:lol

Yeah people who hate anything on NBC tonight get a wag of my finger.

Edit 2: Except Leno, obviously. That = free reign for hate.

If they can manage to make Heroes stop sucking, NBC should be #1.
Maybe for sitcoms. The only day I watch NBC now is on Thursday. Their dramas blow now since they keep canceling everything that's good.

This to a T.

Eww, you think? Different strokes I guess, but I really hate P & R.

Yeah, I just tried to give the rest of the episode a shot. Not one joke landed for me. I think NBC stuff is way better when it's either a lot more free form (Office, P&R) or incredibly well-written (30 Rock). This was neither.

I only laughed twice at the episode but it was still entertaining. Not all funny shit makes me laugh. Was this genuinely not funny for you or do you think that if you don't laugh it's not funny?

I watch Futurama all the time and it very rarely makes me laugh at loud. I am mostly nodding and internally musing "That was rather clever."

This was not clever. Hey, I love Joel McHale, I think he's great, same goes for Chevy Chase, very funny guy, but this was not well written. It's a shame, because Harmon helped write Heat Vision & Jack, which is a 22 minitue diamond-hard shard of comedic brilliance. This just seems like all the character tropes that never made it to another sitcom all got thrown into the same unfunny room together.

I feel bad for it though, as it had to follow the funniest episode of The Office I've ever seen.

Fantastic pilot. Laughed the whole time, outside of the first couple minutes.

Will absolutely watch again.

My thursdays being office, community, sunny in philli? Holy shit.

DVR fucked up the recording halfway, noooooooooooo.

What I saw was really funny, much better than I thought it'd be.

Oh come on, you can't hate on Con4s8ion.

Anybody else notice the Seacrest joke?

After the awful Park & Recreation I didn't have much hope. But then the trailers got me interested. And the actual episode? Thought it was fantastic. If they can keep at that level of quality, it's a winner.

EDIT: Somebody made mention of the British guy being from Daily Show or something. Is it supposed to be an intentionally bad British accent? The guy isn't British right? I kept expecting him to be exposed for having a fake British accent. And he had that one stretch where he was more Matthew McConaughey than British guy.

It's almost like David Schwimmer was doing an intentionally bad British accent and I loved it.

Wow, couldn't disagree more. The whole reason I enjoyed it was the writing.

Wh.. it was good, but are you saying you never saw seasons 2 or 3?

It was alot better than I thought it would be. I expected the guy from the Soup to annoy the shit out of me but he was really good.

it was decent. Definitely no 30 Rock. Not all the characters are particularly funny as of right now, but it was only the pilot. Not going to rule out the show yet, but Thursday is a jam-packed night of worthy television shows -- so I'll manage to stop in every once in awhile to see what's going on with the show.

I didn't find SNL Weekend Update funny at all in its primetime spot (besides the opening sequence).

Born in Birmingham and raised in Liverpool,[2]

:lol

Speaking of him, I noticed that he's on the cast photo. I thought he was just gonna have a small role in the pilot, but hell yes if he's actually gonna be a regular.

I've seen them. Last season was my favorite one of The Office's and this single episode topped it in every way.

I gave up after the "can't be an email attachment" joke and watched Parks & Recreation. That was a lot funnier.
I think this confirms that there is literally a first for EVERYTHING.
