So, at first, I really didn't expect much from this series. Actually, the only reason I started watching it at first was because I knew Gillian Jacobs back in the day and decided to give it a chance when I saw her in the early hulu ads :lol
But I am truly impressed with how much and how quickly this show is growing on me. I think the potential became pretty clear the first time Abed and Troy rapped together, and it's like they've put together another piece of the puzzle with every successive show, from the carpe diem professor to Abed's home movies to the human being to truly amazing Irish Somewhere Out There medley.
I love how they have enough characters to focus on different pairings on a regular basis without it getting old. Most everyone plays their role almost perfectly, though I do think Shirley is the weakest link, and Chevy Chase can be pretty hit or miss. I also love that after the first few episodes they backed off the Jeff/Gillian romance angle a bit, since they show doesn't really need constant romantic drama to stay funny and engaging. I bet they'll bring it back though, but at least then it will be a side to a great show rather than too forced.
Abed and Troy really steal the show though. Abed in general has great personality, and always brings out the best in Troy. I love how well established their friendship is given that it's primarily explored through 30 sec credit clips.
Anyway, just a random rave, I guess, but I wanted to catch up with all the justified praise. It's not nearly as good as AD yet, but I could see it meet or exceed S2/3 of US Office before too long. Hell, it's already better than the current season Office. Always nice to see a show this good come out of no where.
Also, as creepy as the Annie avatars are...I guess it's justified if it succeeds in spreading the good word about the show :/
