How well it takes is up to him, I guess. :D

I don't think he'll take it too well. Anytime Tarick landed a decent punch on him he'd buckle. So doing jabs would leave him open for more of those punches that he really doesn't seem to be able to handle. That's why he stayed on top of Tarick most of the time so he couldn't really get a good punch off. It's a good strategy for slower fighters, but its not going to work against younger fighters that can move around quickly like him. Out of all the current winners, he's by far the weakest.

Tonight's fight was pretty damn good. In the end it came down to who dug deeper for that last bit of energy, and
Joey
just had a little more to give than
Jimmy
I guess. That, or he was playing up his injury a bit to catch his opponent off guard in the final round... They won't underestimate him again, that's for sure. Them all getting to see Caesar's palace was pretty cool too.

Who do you think they'll vote to bring back now that
Juan dropped out due to his injuries?
In the previews it looked like they brought back
Achmed,
but for God's sake why? An easy win?

Head Games... :)

Ishe
deserved to lose after that display. Everyone else had him pegged as a guy who has trouble keeping his head in the game, and I'll be damned if his teammates weren't right. And
Sergio
exploited that weakness perfectly in the ring for a win. If the guy'd been a little smarter,
Ishe
could've seen what the others were up to, not let it get to him and keep his focus, and torn his opponent apart. Because without the head games, there's no way (IMO) that
Sergio
would've won that fight.

They completely set him up for a fall.

EDIT: Just a quick guess on the 2nd episode's fight...
Alfonso vs Achmed.

Too bad,
Ishe
was my favorite.

This show is pissing me off. They've brought back 2 losers because of circumstances (Ahmed and Peter). It's stupid, and ruins the whole show.

One guy left because of chicken pox, which is a pretty serious illness for adults, requiring weeks of recovery and medical treatment. The other guy got so busted up in his first win that he didn't want to fight anymore and quit. What can you do in a situation like that, with an uneven number of available fighters? Force one of the remaining fighters to fight twice? Or have another sit out and not fight?

Bringing back a losing fighter seems like the only solution. Achmed's the only one that benefitted, because he got into the second round despite losing. Peter at least had to win to stay in.

EDIT: Damn,
Alfonso
almost knocked him out! Did you see him wobble? :lol

Alfonso!!!
Holy sh*t!

PS: Ahmed's girl is still smoking...so, bringing him back (unfairly) all worked out in the end :Ăž

And lol @ Ahmed getting suckered as he was gesturing to the crowd.

:lol :lol :lol

WAY TO GO,
ALFONSO GOOOOOOOOOOMEZ!!!
:D

Damn, he had me on my feet there for the fifth round. He almost got knocked down, but he took
Achmed's
best, dug down at the end, and took the win with everything he had. Did you see him sucker
Achmed?
Raised his hand in a victory gesture, got his opponent to do the same, then popped him right in the face.

F*cking great fight! :D

Tonight's two episodes were great. A lot of gamesmanship in and out of the ring, a lot of great character moments, plot, and editing.

My two favorite fighters won tonight, making it all the better. I hope Contender does well enough to pick up future seasons.

What the hell was that advertisement for next week? "He's been called the heart and soul of Contender, and now Joey Gilbert will fight the fight of his life! If you haven't watched Contender yet, this is THE episode to watch." Anyway, Joey's easily been my favorite so next week sounds damn good. And the 2 episodes tonight rocked

Wow. This was easily the best episode of the season. I hope plenty of people are watching this show so it can get a second season. It's the best reality show on TV. Just an awesome, awesome episode.

Damn... I think
Joey could've won that fight. There was still enough time for him to turn it around in the 5th, if he hadn't been headbutted so severely. More than that, I think he could've taken Manfredo if he had actually put up some kind of resistance in the first 2 rounds. He wasn't fighting back, and throwing counterpunches as an afterthought; it's like he was so intimidated to be fighting Manfredo that he couldn't put a fist to him or something.
I'm sorry to see him go, but he needs some damn confidence.

He found his courage too late. :(

what a great ep tonight. I really wasnt into Joey tonight, and then I was pulling for him in the later rounds, shame he got one of the worst cuts I have ever seen in boxing....

Next week should be pretty good.

Yeah, that injury to Joey sucked. He wasn't really afraid, he just seemed really worried about the ribs after the first round. He said it was broke. Either way, he realized after round 2, he had to either win it or lose it. Put up a hell of a fight, and seemed exhausted, but still fighting in the 5th. Then the headbutt. Split decision too. That's how close it was :( I really wish him the best, I love that guy. Tons of heart, I'd like to see him put it to use in something.

Anyway, still waiting for the first knockout. That'll be the day. Jesse and Anthony should be good too. Anthony and Joey seemed to be the 2 most likely to knock someone out. Can't wait to see how someone other than Brent takes Anthony's pounding.

I really really love this show? Its one of those show where I don't mind watching the re-runs over and over again. I'm personally rooting for Alfonso or Sergio... both seem like really nice people with good families who could use the extra cash.

I think Alfonso Gomez is going to win. I have a feeling its going to be Gomez vs. Jesse Brinkley on PPV at Cesar's.

I hope to hell there is a 2nd season, but the way the numbers have been, I doubt it.

I think that if there was a 2nd season, they should perhaps air it during the summer with new eps of The Apprentice. At least there would be something to watch during the summer.

I'm still bewildered why there are no TKO's yet. After seeing clips of Peter fighting on his website, hes a monster in the ring. I think the PPV will be Sergio vs Peter.

yeah, i know. That's the only thing that could make these things better. And maybe on a 2nd season, increase the number of rounds for the bigger fights, or by rounds. Cause some of these comes down to who throws more punches, and can put the other on the defense. That's not exactly boxing strategy, that's 5 round strategy

They could probably show 7 rounds if they cut down on the ridiculous number of "dramatic" crowd reaction shots. I'd prefer more rounds, more knockouts.....but more importantly, a second season.

I also believe some of the fights are rigged in a sense that producers tell the more skilled fighter to take hits which creates an even fight for the viewers at home. There was absolutely no way Joey could beat Peter in the last episode but it seemed like Peter allowed some hits and he stayed in the corner a whole lot during the 3-4 rounds.

Spoiler regarding winner tonight
I'm glad my guy Jesse won it. Anthony may have been a good family man, but he fought like a wild man without serious power. Jesse just needed to wait for his spot, and he did

FUCK YEAH!!! :D

Jesse wins by knockout! ...I feel really bad for Anthony, though. He was a great competitor, and he's just looking out for his family.
Gotta admire that.

Yeah, he was a good guy. It's a shame Jesse had to beat him, rather than someone like Ahmed.
Fights like these, where everything's on the line for the fighters is what makes this the best reality show on TV.

The PPV Las Vegas fights have all been sold out. Its pretty obvious who will fight who in the finale.

Man, what a great episode!
I can't believe the knockout. I mean, I knew I should expect one but I couldn't feel it coming. Also, I knew mentally, Jesse was stronger. I understand Anthony wanting to better his family, make them secure for life.. It's just that, that's the result of what you do in the ring. He fought like a mad man, like his kids were strapped on his back as he fought. You can't fight like that. You have to think boxing and only boxing. Every other minute he spent a thought on his kids, led to this. Harsh thing to say, but the truth.

And man, awesome knockout. So many slow motion hits in past fights had me leaning towards the screen wanting one. This time, the phone ring, and being the only one home I ran to get it during the fight. Flipped the tv on before answering the phone. Just a lot of "yeah, yeah" as I luckily caught it. Hearing Anthony's "Noooo!" was pretty bad. But he got over it, as did his kids. He didn't fall too bad. The corner after the fight was where he was at his worst. Anyway, great stuff, can't wait for next week :D

In this fight Anthony basically went against what he was saying all along, that he wanted to win even if it made him look bad. He was up 3-1 in rounds, so all he had to do was hold off a bit in the final round and he'd won the decision, yet he goes in for the knock out and ends up getting knocked.

Can I just say how truly great this show is at getting reactions out of its viewers? When the
uppercut came from Jesse, and Anthony suddenly buckled and started falling to the mat,
I was simultaneously rising to my feet and screaming "YEAH!" at the TV. And when
Anthony got back up, and the ref let the fight continue,
I was practically screaming for blood at that point. I wanted
Jesse
to put him on the canvas again.

I don't think there's another TV show out there that gets that kinda reaction out of me. Not even 24.

I was so tired of the #1 daddy hat and hearing about his kids.... I'm glad Jesse got in that lucky shot when it counted.!

Am I evil to have laughed when his daughter went from talking shit and swinging her fist to crying for her daddy's life? :lol :(

I was so tired of the #1 daddy hat

I bet be bought that for himself too.

Man, I love this show. Is the final match really going to be on PPV? How much do PPV boxing matches usually cost? That's kind of a bitch that they'd make you pay for the end of the show.

Most PPV sporting events will be on at a sports bar which will charge admission,.unless you've got a group of friends to spilt the cost with then the bar is worth it.

Pretty good fight, got sloppy near the end though. Great reality show and its a shame that there won't be a second season. I'm not a big boxing fan but this show has changed my views on the sport. NBC killed this show from the start be moving around its time slot.

Great fight tonight. Always knew Peter was the best teir there. It just seems like every other fight he has been on, he puts just enough to win and hasn't shown his best. I believe the finale will be Peter vs Sergio. Will it be 7 rounds or 12? In anycase its better then the measily 5 rounds of warmups.

Final match is set...
Peter Manfredo Jr. versus Sergio Mora
in the season finale Tuesday night.

EDIT: I was thinking... should we start a new "Season Finale" thread for Tuesday night's show, instead of bumping this one?

Tonight was probably the worst fight of the season. I mean they only showed like 15secs of each rd. Very badly edited.

At least its been about 11 months since that last episode was taped, and both men have had that time to heal up....

Also, at least it will be the full 7 rounds on Tuesday. No editing BS. I wonder who they are gonna get to commentate? Jim Lampley would be cool

I think the fight must have lacked some action, to be edited like that. They glorify most of the important and well placed shots so.. Anyway, all I have to say is, I realllllly don't like Jesse's wife's voice. "Knock him oooooout!!". Sounds like an annoying Fran Drescher. She needed to be knocket out.
