Over at the IGN DS message boards. They are NP scans or maybe the Official Nintendo Gamebooklet scans. I'll link them if not against TOS! :D

Seriously? Ugh. Why even bother? Did Mario Pinbal even sell?

I won Mario Pinball in the Wendy's promotion. All the copies that didn't sell (re: all of them) must have been distributed through that.

"Developed by the pinball pros who created Mario Pinball"

There goes any chance of quality.

*leaves thread*

Wait, is it OK to link the scans? They're from a promo brochure, not from a magazine (apparently), so I'd assume that it'd be permissible. But I want to make sure.

Hmmm lets just say I want a lot of other DS titles more then I want this. I'll wait and see though but pinball isn't exactly something thats gonna set the world on fire.

Hey thanks for making an effort at making this easy for us to find. It's friday night, I'm not in the right mind, and I want answers.

It looks pretty cool for a pinball game. I loved that Sonic pinball game from back in the day. What was it called? Sonic Spinball?

EDIT: I'm taking out my first comment, I don't want to start a fight tonight. :lol

Man, this is just depressing. I'll actually second Jr and say that the screens look kinda cool, but with the people behind Mario Pinball here, Nintendo obviously isn't aiming for quality so... yeah fuck you too Nintendo. :(

the only reason the last mario pinbal sucked was because it wasnt a pinball game, this on the otherhand looks like one

looks like a more conventional pinball game than mario pinball, but it still uses that stupid angled view that results in really short tables. meh.

...

what?

You could have just as easily said "The only reason Mario Pinball sucked was because it was a huge heaping pile of shit."

Mario Pinball Land didn't know if it was a pinball game or an adventure title.

This, on the other hand, looks like a more traditional pinball game. At least, I imagine that was what was meant.

Man, I wish the Pokemon Pinball people were doing this...

some people loked it, it was more for mainstream gamers, than traditional. Hopefully this one will be better.

Let's look at the bright side: We know that Retro is NOT making this game, therefore they are working on either another Metroid Prime game or an entirely new game altogether.

I have a feeling I'm in the minority in this forum, but I really want another Prime game, be it on GC or RVN. I would be fine with a whole different new game from Retro, but a new Prime would suit me just fine.

Why would you be in the minority, the Prime games own!

Of course, I hope with Prime 3 they go a bit back to the drawing board to figure out how to make the game have some meaningful changes so that it doesn't feel exactly like the others.

Man, Nintendo reallly can't do any good. Their games get dismissed practically immediately after they're announced and the basic concept revealed.

What? There's so many Nintendo games that are embraced! I can name a bunch embraced by me immediately.

However, a game made by the folks who made the atrocious MARIO PINBALL, well... let's just say skepticism is warranted :P

Mario pinball sucked precisely because it wasn't pinball. That and what game they *did* make wasn't even a fun concept.

As long as the pinball terrain is good (hard to fuck this up...seriously) it could be pretty fun. It looks pretty detailed to me, and the DS is a good match for such a game. I think part of the issue with Mario Pinball was the small screen size available.

(Note: I'm not forgiving Mario Pinball for it's ultimate suckjob, just pointing out not all hope is lost. Some video would be nice to judge this on.)

I remember reading a while back, don't have the thread, but folks were saying that they were basically disappointed in MP2, due to its similarity to MP (as you mentioned) and that due to this, they felt like Retro should do something totally different. IMO, MP2 was different enough. It definitely lacked the magical feel that Prime had, but I still replayed it a few times and thoroughly enjoyed it. Indeed, the Prime games do definitely own. :D Especially the first one.

I agree with you on having a few meaningful changes to 3, to give it a little freshness. I would not mind a bit if it was on GC either.

In reality, Metroid Prime 2 was Metroid Prime 1 with an initially neat "Dark/Light" story tacked on which unfortunately hurt the title in the end because the worlds, while still not lacking that trademark Retro artistic charm, didn't feel different enough. The backtracking for the first time became tedious, which should never happen in a Metroid game. And it didn't help that the gameplay was so exactly similar.

So while Metroid Prime 2 owned (and it sure did), the extremely few changes it had were not enough to make it feel like anything other than Metroid Prime 1. Now this isn't a bad thing, Metroid Prime was imho one of the greatest games this gen... but they seriously need to just take a step back and ask themselves what they can add/take away/improve so that the experience feels markedly different while still retaining the things that made the series so good (sense of isolation, artistic direction, fantastic controls).

ADD: Speed Booster (they CAN do this!), Beam layering (ala SM), Spazer Beam, Spring Ball
TAKE AWAY: Key Hunting
RETAIN: MP2's normal difficulty, creative bosses, MP's AMAZING music

I think those are some decent starters. I am encouraged to see the controls didn't bother you. I LOVED the control setup. I always got a kick out of my FPS-playing friends pick up the game and not know what to do. Seriously though, the control setup was fantastic.

I'm always confused by the people who thought the controls were bad. I also LOVE the jumping mechanics in Metroid Prime 1/2. When you jump, Samus tilts her head down slightly which gives you a clear view of the next platform/ledge you're trying to reach. This little addition, which seems relatively insignificant to the passerby, is fucking brilliant and completely perfects jumping in the FPS genre. The game also has a real palpable sense of weight, so Samus feels agile while still allowing you to judge distances properly.

I am ashamed to say I didn't even think of the jumping when I made that other post. I was playing Halo earlier tonight, and laughed at the jumping in that game (while decent) compared to MP. I know it's not a platformer and not nearly as important, but it just reminded me of how smooth and natural the jumping in MP and 2 felt.

Something else that amazed me, especially when playing for the first time, were the Morph Ball mechanics. Absolutely flawless control, and stunningly beautiful graphically. The little blue aura around Samus was a nice touch when in dark corridors, as was the way the insects followed you in MP2. I've never seen any other titles give more attention to detail and atmosphere. I think I'm about to go play again. :)

Did Mario Pinbal even sell?

If Metroid Pinball is anything like Galactic Pinball, I'll take two!

Graphically that looks kinda cool.

But seriously ... Nintendo needs to come up with some new character properties. It's Mario/Pikachu/Donkey Kong/Kirby/Zelda/Metroid everything.

I was hoping for a 2D game with an "overhead" view that looked more like a Super Metroid area than a pinball machine. I thought that would work better than a game which tries to simulate standing in front of a real pinball machine. I'll have to check this out anyway though.

This game looks great. I actually think they should just approach it more like a themed pinball game rather than a Metroid game with pinball gameplay, because no story could possibly make sense. Even something like 'Samus enters a morph ball contest where she competes in pinball arenas...' would be ridiculous.

Why even bother with a story? It's pinball with a Metroid-theme. Do you walk up to the Star Wars pinball machine and wonder why it doesn't sum up A New Hope in mechanical ball form?
