UNCONFIRMED: New details on a radical gameplay shift for the next Pokemon series.

Nintendo has been decidedly discrete about their upcoming Pokemon games for the DS. The new series was not shown at E3, and has never been discussed. Thus, the proceeding information about the title must be taken with a grain of salt.

The internet site, www.Neoseeker.com has listed a brief description of the next Pokemon series, and has offered a list of features availble for the games. It is said that the next game in the series will feature a cooperative mode along with an option for competitive play.

According to Neoseeker, "The multiplayer features allow for co-op and competitive play with friends; gym leaders and opposing trainers are actually other players!" With such a level of peer involvement , it is possible that the next generation of Pokemon titles could be MMORPG's.

The gameplay of the title is allegedlly radically different from the previous iterations of the series. Players are said to be able to follow their own path in the world of Niko. Whether it be through joining Team Rocket, opening a store or hotel, or even becoming a gym leader.

- Pokemon Pearl/Diamond which will be presenté in July would be a MMORPG. The principle would be thus a playable RPG in Online as in Offline

- a Co-operation mode will make its appearance

- new new races and Pokemon are prevus

- Finally the graphic aspect will evoluera of much compared to the series of the other versions on GameBOY and would be similar with the 3d of Pokemon Stadium 2 left on N64.

These infos is to be taken with tweezers. Let us await Pokemon Fiesta which will be deroulera at mid-July in Japan

Megaton.

Although I hope online is optional at best, because FFXI proved that popular franchises don't always do well with online.

I don't believe for a minute that real people will be gym leaders. That's asking for trouble.

FFXI didn't sell as many copies as a regular FF, but it makes a ton of money from the subscribers. Assuming Pokemon wouldn't have a monthly fee, it would probably sell a lot more, especially since it doesn't require an add-on (unlike FFXI).

unconfirmed.......

I'll wait for the inevitable "we think pokemon is about meeting people and trading/competing in real life" press release from nintendo.

OMG I hope this is at least semi true. I want a Pokemon MMO. It could be the best selling handheld game ever.

No doubt. Until Nintendo tells us to put our tweezers away, all we can do is hope they realize this IS the next step up for Pokemon games.

Well, on-line function is confirmed for the DS.

The next major pokemon game will likely support some form of on-line feature. But MMORPG is a specific type of on-line game. There can be various other in-between alternatives to this, where the games are still largely self-contained/single player but with an option to fight on-line, or some of the zones might be persistent on-line worlds, so basically a scaled down MMORPG with a few zones for people to meet and gather.

Pokemon was meant to be a MMORPG, it has it written all over the wall.

I can't wait to run my own gym, all you can be my disciples. :lol

That's fine dude. I'll run my own brothel. Misty, Nurse Joy, and all those other hot gym babes will be a "touch" away. :lol :lol :lol

Could the DS handle an MMORPG with Stadium-level graphics? Doubtful..

I can see online battling/tournaments though.

DS can push more polys than the N64.

But yeah, if the next pokemon DS game goes on-line, I expect the main on-line feature to be over the net battles and torunaments. Maybe trades as well.

But a full fledged MMORPG might be a bit of a stretch.

now online is very important thing for Nintendo fanboys ? what about GC...Uh oh I remember those stupid arguments, anyway if this true the game gonna rock so hard.

did anybody ever defend nintendos decision not to support online? Even on this board? Doubtful. GC was cool, but it would have been cooler with online.

Yeah, I've always said Animal Crossing on-line would have sold much better. I'm glad we're finally getting an on-line version of that game.

Yeah, I just hope online isn't a determining factor in the game (i.e. you'll miss out on Pokemon without it). For tournaments and minigames, online is a great thing to have. ^_^

maybe not in this forum, but I remember a lot of people who said that online is just a small market , Sony & Microsoft have no profits from their online network so there is no need for Nintendo to enter this market...maybe khalid-s remember who said that :p

Well, Nintendo's on-line plan thus far is very different from Sony or Microsoft's. Several games for the DS will have on-line function for free.

It can be argued that they were simply waiting for them to be able to do this, and in DS case, wifi internet technology to mature and be implemented. For all the knocks against the DS being technically inferior to the PSP, both PSP and DS have the same on-line capabilities.

I find these maybe threads a tad maybe. Hmmm

Would be killer if they made one. Not surprising if they don't milk Pikachu's yellow milkduds.

I just realized something... Could you imagine how insanely popular a Pokemon-themed Nintendogs game would be in Japan? Grooming, breeding, care-taking, playing, training an assortment of those critters would sell like mad.

I was just thinking the other day about how I would actually be interested in a Pokemon MMORPG just like this where you could actually become a gym leader and whatnot. I havent played a Pokemon since Blue, the others just seemed to be the same thing again (Which they were...)

Sounds interesting. Would actually be a megaton if true.

Knowing Nintendo however...

I don't want 3D Pokémon if they're using the N64 models again (damn you Colosseum and XD). I prefer the cartooney 2D art of the GBA games... a cel-shaded Pokémon game would be like a dream come true...

MMORPG? Completely doubt it. What I could see is online tournaments/battles/trading. Maybe even 3D battles with the normal 2D overworld. And if the WiFi connections in Japan are all they're cracked up to be, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl could see some huge sales there.

But a MMORPG? Better wait for the Revolution.

Neoseeker? I'll wait for a serebii.net news.

Sounds like speculation to me

Nah

A dream come true but I highly doubt. It'll probably be the exact same game all over again but with a few minor online features

- a Co-operation mode will make its appearance
As in 2 on 2 battling?

- new new races and Pokemon are prevus
Races? What the hell are they talking about?

Finally the graphic aspect will evoluera of much compared to the series of the other versions on GameBOY and would be similar with the 3d of Pokemon Stadium 2 left on N64.
Oh dear god no. Pokemon belong in 2D

Well they know about the Pokemon Fiesta so I guess they actually know what they are talking about. Indeed the game will be reveal in mid-july and will see a november release as usual.

Im not sure what to think of this but im not optimistic. Why taking a risk when making another clone of R/B will sell millions?

Hm? Playing as Team Rocket seems like a pretty likely addition to me. At least playing as the "evil" side as well. Playing as the bad guys is very popular now.

MMORPG for the DS is a bit too much

MMORPGs tend to take more than 3-5 hours per session, and thats for normal gamers. so I don't think its a good idea for a handheld system.

they need to have online battles, trading, ranking, and few other cool features

leave the MMORPG for REV, release it after a year of REV's launching :)

Hmmm, I too don't really like the idea of it being in 3D. At least not for the battles.
I found the Stadium/Colusseum games to have sucky battles and they did not capture any of the Pokémon magic IMO.

If this is true I will officially devote my life to this game.

Im not saying it wouldnt be fun, just that it seem very un-Nintendoish to play as bad guy. Beside what could you really do as Team Rocket? Stealing Pokemon and/or money would suck the fun right out of it for regular player. A gigantic TR like clan would be fun though

The Warioland (and now WarioWare) titles were pretty successful, and they were based around the concept of playing the bad guy, so I wouldn't put it past Nintendo.

The rumours going around do seem to make quite a bit of sense, I could see Nintendo going with a slightly different direction as the series transfers over to the DS. Online is pretty much guarenteed, considering how much Nintendo seems to want to push it with the DS, and Pokémon is the perfect way to do that. I think people are over-estimating how far down the MMO route Nintendo are going to go, though. I can see it being much more like Animal Crossing DS, where your own single-player experience doubles up as an online world when you invite some friends into it.
