Need a new router advice

I currently have an E-2000 Linksys router. 3 story home including the basement where the router is. Terrible speed in the living room upstairs and since the Wii U doesn't have an ethernet connection I am forced to buy a new router. Need one that has a great signal strength and speed.

Thanks.

The Linksys ea4500. Expensive but amazing

or the Asus dark knight

Looks like some mixed reviews. Thanks though. I wish there was a device that you could just plug into a wall and it'd pick up the wifi signal downstairs and extend it. I thought the extender I bought did this but I was mistaken. Ugh.

If you get a router for gaming make sure it has good reviews behind it.

Feature wise you want something with decent QOS, port forwarding, and something to turn of SPI and other things that can make console gaming garbage. I'm still using my DGL 4300 which is old now so I won't recommend a specific model.

You may also want to look in to what kind of modem your provider is giving you because if they suck won't matter what router you attach to it unless you bridge it.

I have the Asus Black Diamond, I love it.

Of all the routers listed here, which is the best for gaming and general home networking? LinkSys, WD My Net N600 HD Dual Band Router, or Asus Black Diamond?

If it's anything like the RT-N16 you may need to install custom firmware for proper stability. Still, hardware wise, it should be the best consumer router out there.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Apple Airport Express.
i am now a believer after buying one last week. it's tough finding a good router that can reach all the tenants in my apartment, but the airport extreme has no issue. belkin, asus, netgear, and linksys failed me.

Okay gents, out of everything posted in this thread, which do you recommend for gaming and home networking? My router is on my first floor but my 360/PS3 are on the third floor, so a good signal to those would be awesome.

I'm leaning towards http://www.amazon.com/dp/B006QB1RPY/?tag=neogaf0e-20

But don't want to have to configure too much stuff just to get it working well. Basically want a plug it in and get great performance out of box.

Have that router.

The range is awesome. I was in a similar situation, could only have my modem at the demarc point in the basement. Needed a connection on the top floor in a 2 story home. Regularly got a strong signal.

However my router was directly below the rooms that needed a strong signal. So, I am sure the placement of the router played a part. I doubt I would have great signal strength if the router was placed on the opposite side of the house.

The GUI of the stock firmware is a bit tricky. Took me a good 10 minutes trying to figure out how to forward my ports. Other than that it was basically plug and play.

My parents need a new router and my mum said she was willing to spend up to £100 (but I'm sure I can persuade her to spend a bit more if necessary). Nobody games in the house so don't need to worry about that. Something relatively easy to set up would be nice, but I'll be doing it so that's not the most important factor. Any recommendations?

Sounds good. This remains my frontrunner but I may keep options open to see if anyone has another solid suggestion.
