Well

I just bought a memorex dvd +/- RW True 8xi

Played a DVD works fine

Put in a blank CD then burned to it CD via windows burner ..worked Fine

Installed Nero buring rom via my DVD +/- RW

Put in a Blanck DVD+R ......... my drive description goes from DVD RW drive E: to
CD drive E: If i double click on drive i get an "incorrect function".

Tried to burn a DVD with Nero but nero doesnt see the drive even after I perform an auto detect. it did however see it during the auto detect process...(did it forget?)
It seems Windows just forgets what type of drive it is.

If i do properties, windows sees my drive as a memorex dvd +/- RW True 8xi
TRied the trouble shooter ..waste of time

any suggestions????
O have i made a gross error in that this is not a DVD burner...but burns cd's ???

off the wall suggestion, but make sure you have Nero set to the appropriate media you're trying to burn.

If you're using Nero StartSmart, there's some kind of dropdown list/selectable area for either CD or DVD, depending on your version.

I looked for it but i saw no option to switch mediums
I fried and It's late...I'll look into it later in the mornin.

Thanks Ecrofirt seems my version of nero is way old, no number just says "burning rom" on the disc. whats worse it's no where near as visualy friendly as what you have.

Still.... i ran a firmware update ...rebooted ...windows still sees the drive as a basic CD drive.

When i first installed the drive it read and reported it was a "memorex dvd +/- RW True 8xl"+ ...I've reinstalled it twice now and each time Windows reads it as a regular CD Drive.

Any idea what could cause it to do such a thing?
