Need For Speed Most Wanted - PC Performance Thread

So, to leave the OT just for general discussions about the game, and to focus on PC performance, let's discuss it here. Going to home right now to unlock the game and post some results later.

Please, please post your setup when talking about the game's performance.

No, it's not naturally Vsync'd but that's the least of the game's problem right now. Vsync can easily be forced on the game.

Fuck that's unreal, to me this is a much bigger issue than the absence of proper AA support.

I just can't stand jaggies, thank God D3D Overrider exists but still, hopefully a patch will be available shortly after the game's launch.

Reposting my stuff from the other thread...

Setup: i7-2600K @ 4.3GHz, GTX 680 SLI

Just unlocked the PC version via FlyVPN's Korean IP:

Looks pretty nice, but it needs a serious dose of AA, so hoping someone finds working bits in NVIDIA Inspector.

----------

It has no built in AA settings? what..

There's no in game AA settings for the PC?

Nope, and there's no VSync option, so I'm locked to 60 FPS. On my 680 SLI system I'm getting a few drops when going down long view distance streets, with the lowest FPS being 45 so far.

Post-process AA and VSync are both forcibly enabled and cannot be disabled in-game.

-----------

Fuck, scratch that, hit 35 fps now!

Stopped to take this shot and the FPS went up a bit, but still, very disappointing considering the quality of Burnout Paradise PC.

-----------

So I found this tunnel with pretty bad FPS:

Was determined to see what fixed the framerate... Tried turning off AO (no change), hi-res textures (no change), etc

In the end I got to this:

To achieve 60 fps in that spot I turned down Reflection Detail to Medium, and Geometry Detail to Medium also.

Also, to the people who keep saying it's Frostbite, there was no Frostbite splash as in BF3, MOHW and other Frostbite games, and the file structure, file types, and what have you are completely different:

---------------

Yeah, i hate it too. FXAA is just a terrible solution.

Probably the only solution with performance this poor.

----------------

Which drivers are you using Jubbly and have you tried without SLI?

Latest betas, and there's no SLI profile so the other card is basically inactive. I could try forcibly disabling it, or disabling SLI altogether, but I doubt it'll make any difference.

They made such a big deal of the many options of the PC version. Strange, that they would include all that but not a option for vsync or AA.

Can you do screenshot of the video options screen?

Sure, give me a min, but what they mentioned there is pretty much it in the game.

-------------

Graphics settings as requested (took 3 screenshots to grab it because of the OMGHUGE options menu):

-------------

Turned SLI off, made no difference to performance. Here's hoping that a SLI profile will come swiftly and be of use (far too many games have been CPU limited of late).

I'm pretty sure that thise Postprocessing dust filter can be turned off in POSTFX.BNDL but how to tweak?

.

SLI doesn't seem to be working for you, turn that off and see if you don't get 60 locked with one 680.

Performance is terrible, 680 SLI and there's no SLI profile. So one of my cards just goes into hoover mode and the game wobbles between 45 and 60. I mean, it's not even that much of a looker to warrant that kind of a hit.

Were there mod tools for Hot Pursuit? The dev says (https://mobile.twitter.com/NeedforSpeed/status/210984390866644992) it's the upgraded version of that game's engine, so if that could be modded...

Already did, as mentioned at the bottom of my very long post :)

Oh dear, you were so happy about the 60 fps you were getting just a little while ago :) Now, let's see if a comparable AMD card performs as badly - anyone got one?

I remember Ambient Occlusion really killing performance for me in Burnout Paradise. I wonder if Most Wanted has the same implementation.

Jesuschrist you can't achieve a locked 60fps with this rig? What happened to you, Criterion? Your ass used to be beautiful.

Not even on a 3930k @ 4.7 with 680 4GB edition SLI can you achieve 60FPS on max settings.

Poor optimization / porting.

This makes no sense at all. There must be some specific setting eating performance for lunch.

Try reducing the geometric detail and reflection detail to medium, that helped me a lot, though I'm still getting drops to 40-50 every so often.

I'm on the fence about this game now.. I can look pass these issues if it was on something other than Origin, but looking at EA's stance on mods on their service? I don't know.

I really hope Criterion is going to patch this game.

Disappointing. I was considering picking it up, but if I can't achieve a stable 60fps with some AA applied with a 4.5GHz i5 2500k and a GTX 670, I'm waiting for a sale.

that's why I waited on this one. Hot Pursuit never felt properly optimized on PC, which was a huge surprise after the quality of the Burnout Paradise port. I guess getting these out on time with the other releases isn't doing their PC versions any favours.

I will happily buy the Wii U version next year then, and if and when I upgrade my PC in a couple of years, I will get the PC version cheap. fortunately I've got Horizon to hold me over.

Paradise runs fine on a pc. Hotpursuit is shit for performance and this one is too I'm amazed they let this happen again.

Just use FlyVPN, use a Korean server and start the game. Close down the VPN and it's unlocked.

I did that, and now the game is locked again after logging out of the Korean proxy. While I was connected to the proxy the game just booted up--there wasn't any unlock.

Probably per-session based. You need to start the game with FlyVPN and then you can shut it down. Then it'll work until you close Origin.

Crud. Usually when I use VPN to unlock games early they actually unlock, and I don't have to use the VPN anymore. Oh well.

Wow, this sounds terrible, and didn't criterion say that they got something like a 300% performance boost by moving to DX11? My god, what must it have been like in DX9?

You tried using Sweetfx with it? Inject some SMAA in there for your AA needs.

You can't turn off FXAA (or whatever PPAA technique is used), so adding more post-processing AA on top isn't going to help matters.

Can I get banned from Origin for doing that?

No, you won't get banned for unlocking a legitimately purchased game, EA Support has confirmed this several times in the past, and if you go looking you'll find the copies of the support emails and chats that back my claim up.

I unlocked via FlyVPN, launched, disconnected FVPN, logged into Battlelog, and have simply tabbed out when not playing.

I have no problem running Hot pursuit everything maxed 60FPS always @ 1920x1080
Then again i am on a i5 2500K OC @ 4.3ghz, 8gigs ram and a Radeon 6950 2GB.

It seems HP has been patched 5 times.

Well, look at the bright side: Criterion is a subsidiary of EA which means there's a chance we might see a 3-page long day 1 patch :p

I'd expect performance changes to primarily be driver based, but I could be wrong.

How many of yours cores is the game using btw?

Not the same for all.

My friends 6gb, radeon 6850 setup with the same cpu not oced is shit. You can easily look up performance problems on the game especially if you look up sli issues or renaming the exe file to another name.

edit: holy crikes that is a beast 10GB of ram (system + gpu) what kind of eye candy are you using that you need something like that.

ehhh, this is disappointing. may have to wait for a few price drops now. Hot Pursuit on pc had lots of jaggies too.
