EA Reveals New Action Driving Fantasy with Need for Speed Payback
Edge of Your Seat Driving, Explosive Action and Blockbuster Gameplay Fuel New Game
Pre-Order Now for Instant Access to Five Uniquely Customized and Tuned Iconic Cars

GOTHENBURG, Sweden--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today Ghost Games™, an Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA) studio, announced Need for Speed Payback, the new action driving blockbuster from one of the world's bestselling video game franchises, hitting stores November 10th, worldwide. This explosive adventure is filled with intense heist missions, high stakes car battles, epic cop pursuits and jaw dropping set pieces. It's blockbuster gameplay never before seen from the series, fueled by a gripping story of betrayal and revenge. With Need for Speed Payback, it's no longer just about being the first to cross the finish line or racing to prove to be the best, it's about building the perfect ride, getting behind the wheel and playing out an action driving fantasy.

”Need for Speed returns this year to challenge what players expect from racing games," said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer. ”We're still delivering everything our fans love about the franchise – the deepest customization, an impressive roster of cars, intense races and open world pursuits – but with Need for Speed Payback, we're bringing together all those elements in an all new blockbuster driving experience. From the story, to the different characters you can drive as, to the varied missions, to the edge-of-your-seat moments, this is our vision for what action driving entertainment means today."

Set in the underworld of Fortune Valley, players will drive as three distinct characters reunited by a quest for vengeance against The House, a nefarious cartel that rules the city's casinos, criminals and cops. They will take on a variety of challenges and events as Tyler, the Racer; Mac, the Showman; and Jess, the Wheelman to earn the respect of the underground. Featuring the deepest customization from the series, players can truly craft a personalized and unique ride, or spend hours finding and tuning an abandoned derelict into a supercar. They can then push their cars to the limit and raise the stakes by betting on their own performance, where they can either multiply their winnings or risk losing it all.

For players that pre-order the game, they will receive the Need for Speed Payback Platinum Car Pack and get instant access to five uniquely customized and tuned iconic cars at launch, each with exclusive† Platinum Blue Tire Smoke. The Car Pack includes:

Becomes baffled, curling up into a ball when confronted with three controller options.
They've gotta have a better story this time, from the title I can tell it'll be corny.

After subjecting myself to a FatF marathon having never seen any of them, I am now a believer and welcome games attempting to capture that series' essence

Whenever I see that EA logo, I have to puke knowing that they are willing to kill off beloved franchises that don´t are suited for gamble systems like ultimate team e.g. Mass Effect, Burnout, Dead Space etc.

Really excited to see an EA based car finance simulator to get youth involved in personal finance. I can't wait to dive in to the credit scores, dealership haggling (with branching conversations), used car sales, bank loan rates, etc.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
So its the same exact premise as every other NFS game. Earn respect on he road and topple the asshole bad guy regime! Watch out for cops along the way!

How EA keeps thinking narrative based racing is the right direction for this series is increasingly a mystery to me. Is there really consumer feedback that exists that's like "More story. Arcade racing needs more story. Definitely."? Really strange.

That description is the single dumbest, cliched, generic load of garbage I have possibly ever read, I am totally in for this.

Wheel you be coming along for the Ride?

I think a narrative can work as long as it ups the insanity-factory by 10x. The last NFS was far too grounded by its FMV and story. If this has a plot that allows for fast&furious level setpieces and characters, it could be a hit. I could see this navigating a nice line against horizon's open world arcade racing events if this is a linear and tight racing game. I'm cautiously optimistic for this.

e: on that note, are there any racing games with great stories you guys know of? I would actually be interested in that, as the NFS series have yet to nail it.

I completely agree. I guess they could just stop doing that. I mean, it's not like anyone would bat an eyelash if they suddenly went with NFS: Fast Cars.

But the cheesy narrative has never been the problem. It's either boring/lame as fuck, or so bad it's good.

I'm far more concerned about the quality of the game itself - handling, progression, AI, interesting challenges, etc. Those are the pieces that have been mostly shit for quite some time now.

It better have me robbing a safe from a police station then going on an epic race through the city with said vault behind my car causing havoc along the way.

Interest rising.

Wonder why all the racing games releasing all of sudden. Seemed like the genre was dead not even a year ago.

Let's put it this way. Forza Horizon 3 got a racing game of the generation tier reception, and the last shipment number we got was 2.5 million units by the end of December, which would be a "literally just shut the studio down immediately" tier performance at EA.

Like yes, EA makes multiplatform games, but still, they're the type of company that's not interested in under 5 million units on this kind of investment, with an ideal trending above that.

Toward that end, they're going to have to try at least something unorthodox compared to what the racing genre normally does.

But old NFS games such as Most Wanted and Underground already had that old F&F vibe, didn't they? I swear some of the cutscenes in the games could have been ripped straight out of the movies.

That's what I thought to -- as Hitman is to James Bond.

NFS Payback sounds interesting. The description kinda sounds eh to me, but I guess we'll see how it looks in a hour. Visually I expect it to be stunning (NFS 2015 was gorgeous) but I'm most concerned about the handling, which was by far the worst part of 2015.

Does anybody know how well 2015 sold?

I'd rather have some narrative than nothing, otherwise the game would bore me to death.
