Its the one where Kira is investigating a Cardassian who claims to be one of the brutal overseers of the Occupation. But it turns out that he faked the evidence to lead them to believe he was this man because hes ashamed of his people and feelst he need to be punished. In the process Kira learns that she doesn't have to hate all Cardassians. Pretty gripping story.

Any idea what season it is? Name of the episode?

wow, I remember this episode, though I started watching it pretty much mid-way or later in the series and eventually the local station stopped running them completely so I haven't seen too many episodes...

I wish I could remember which one this one is, but I remember it pretty vividly... I wonder if I saw it once the series was over or if it was during it's regular syndicated play...

and peopel try and say DS9 was weak in its early seasons......

It was actually really strong early going, much moreso than a lot of people believe. I think the fact that A) it gets so incredible at the end of the series and B) it was way different than other Trek in those first few seasons, gives early DS9 an undeserved bad rap.

DS9 did more with thier characters in their first season than other treks did with thier cast the entire series.

Just look at Bashir, Beginning of season 1 he was the guy everyone wanted to be killed off, annoying and arrogant, by end of the season he's an enjoyable member of the crew.

That one is definitely the best episode from Season 1 and probably the one that caught my attention for the show. DS9 characters are leagues ahead of TNG (other than Stewart and Spiner), Voyager or Enterprise, which are just painful to watch most of the times.

If you like Duet, see Necessary Evil (Season 2), Improbable Cause I & II (Season 3),The Visitor (season 4), Children of Time (season 5), In the Pale Moonlight (season 6), and Chimera (season 7). Just crazy how good the show can be for a Star Trek show.

perhaps I will have to give the earlier episodes a chance, I've been of the mindset that if I turn it to DS9 and Sisko has hair I turn it to something else, and pass on old beardless Riker episodes too

duet is definitely the best of season 1 though i think "progress" is pretty good, too. don't get your hopes up too high though, 'cause there are quite a few duds in season 1 <cough> "move along home"

season 2 has a lot of quality episodes in it, too.

I thought Move Along Home was a very fun episode to watch.

"The Siege of AR-551" is on Spike right now for West Coasters. This is one of the best DS9 episodes IMO.

What's the deal with SpikeTV anyways? I hear people say DS9 is on the channel, but I chane it to 32 and though it's Spike, it's not DS9 ... .ever.

Don't know about your situation but SpikeTV shows a 5 hour block (used to be a 4 hour block but they added another hour recently) of Star Trek. From 11-4pm, it's solid Star Trek starting with 2 episodes of DS9 and then 3 episodes of TNG.

And yeah, "The Siege of AR-551" is really good. Screw the haters that think DS9 veered off the original vision of Star Trek.

I get the TNG episodes, but before it's some VIP shit and after it's MacGuyver.

DS9 DID veer away from Original series. What good would it do to have Next Gen (which was essentially a modern retelling of TOS) and DS9 telling same stories. It took the darker elements of humanity and displayed them in the Trek universe like never before. Life is not all about peace love and happiness. DS9 showed us that. Bad things do happen and people die, people hate.

I knew I missed a word. I meant "Screw the haters that hated the fact that DS9 veered off from the original vision of Star Trek". =P

My favorite DS9 episodes would probably have to be...

1. In The Pale Moonlight
This is the one where Sisko recruits Garak to help him trick the Romulans into joining the war.

2. Duet
Already mentioned in thread

3. The Visitor
An Old Jake Sisko (AKA The Candyman) retells the experience of loosing his fater as a young man and his plans to change this event.

4. Hard Time
O'Brian returns to Ds9 after recieving the memories of a 20 year prison sentence.

5. Nor The Battle To The Strong
Jake panics when tryign to write a story while on the Front Lines.

Also gotta give DS9 credit for their light hearted/comedy episdoes that completly outshined the comedy episodes of other series

Trials and Tribbulations
The Tribble episode, loved how they handled the 1960's Klingons.

The Magnificent Ferengi
Quark and other Ferengi attempt to get Quarks mother back from the Dominion

Little Green Men
Episode where Quark, Rom and Nog land in Roswell, New Mexico.

Take Me Out To The Holosuite
The Crew plays Baseball against an all Vulcan team.

Kira: *holding a dieing Marritza who'd been fatally wounded* Why!? Why?

Bajoran Attacker: Hes Cardassian. Isn't that enough?

Kira: No...no. Its not.

That just totally brought Kira to a totally new place from before. Its not very often such a profoudn turning point is made in the last few minutes of the episode. Very precise and not any melodrama.

I think this is quite true becuase I stopped watching DS9 in it's first few seasons in first run because it wasn't TNG (wasn't on a ship, was boring--which in hindsight it was not). Now DS9 stands as my favorite trek series.
