Which do you consider to be the worst episode of The Simpsons?

It's a series I like, especially the first few episodes.

There are others that have been mediocre.

For me, this is the beginning of the Simpsons' decline. I hate this episode with all my heart, and all the episodes where Homer's mom is involved.

Frank Grimes. I'm sure there were worse after that, but that was the start of episodes I genuinely didn't like. From season 11 or so onward, the show just wasn't The Simpsons anymore.

Principal and the Pauper - the episode where Principal Skinner was revealed to be a imposter. Also the one where Maude Flanders passed away, Homer was such an asshole in that episode.

Pretty much every episode after season 18. I saw online people mentioning "Behing the laughter" as the worst episode, but I really like this one

This episode is the exact point for me. Just complete character assassination. Poor skinner

The episode where homer's stupidness causes someone to kill themselves
and the writers thought this was funny 😲

It's sobering to think that it's now much harder to pin down the worst than to pick the best episode. I don't appreciate Lisa centric episodes where she's just the writers' mouthpiece and I especially hate when it's at the expense of Homer. I keep thinking back to the episode where Lisa decides to become a vegetarian and how much better their interactions were back then.

Don't judge me, but I love Lisa Simpson. She's my favorite character on the show.

More in the first episodes

The one I can't stand is Marge.

Haven't watched it but I guess that Lady Gaga episode must be truly awful lol.

Lisa is great when she's just a smart kid that still has faults and is not above relying on her family. Like that one episode with the angel of Springfield where she squeezes Marge's hand.

The one with The Who is the worst one I've seen (off the top of my head). That's when I knew there was no coming back for The Simpsons and quit watching shortly after.

Edit: judging from the image above, there was only one "Great" episode after The Who one so it looks like I made the right call.

Watching Simpsons in French (i started at 5, sue me), i remember when the guy who did Krusty's voice (and skinner and a few others too) died and they had to find a replacement. The new guy sounded nothing like the first one and i couldn't watch anymore, it seemed to have lost all its fun. It was around the 18th season.

I haven't watched the show in decades but the frank grimes episode just repulsed me the day it aired in a way that very little ever did. It was just so grotesque and mean spirited compared to everything else.

The one where Homer gets raped by a Panda.
My kids watched through the later episodes - and they still get a laugh out of me from time to time. They arent terrible they just fell in to usual sitcom patterns.

The one that did it for me was the one where the kids were part of the model UN and their bus got lost making a Lord of the Flies parody. I watched a few after that, but once they killed Maude Flanders in a horrific racing accident, I was too busy to care about the show. Maybe I'll check it out at where I left off since I have more time now.

I stopped watching around Season 9. I don't remember ever making a conscious decision to stop watching, but I guess even as a kid, I could sense the show was starting to go downhill. By 2001 or so, I was fully into South Park and Jackass on Sunday nights instead of The Simpsons.

I can honestly say I've never seen a truly bad episode because I've never seen any past Season 9.

While I still found it generally entertaining the downfall began when Homer shifted from being an inept but loving father who meant well, to more of a selfish or occasionally mean-spirited buffoon.

Reason I love Bob's Burgers & King Of The Hill so much is they have flawed but strong father figures, largely bucking the trend of many other animations; and something The Simpsons did well earlier on.

Googling it, season 8 was the start of the downfall. For me, season 1 was a good start but really krusty. Seasons 2-7 were awesome.

But then season 8 came around and everything changed. Ultra unfunny, totally different lamer jokes, who knows what happened. Maybe the writers changed or they were asked to change direction of the humour. Never went back. So maybe the series got better later, but didnt bother.

Some writers were pulled for Futurama.

I love the 90's era of The Simpsons, my second favorite comedy after Seinfeld. Seasons 1-10 (and I use the movie as a "finale") are my head canon. I didn't immediately hate Season 11 and beyond, but that panda episode was the breaking point for me and I only checked in occasionally after that.

I think Matt Groening focusing on Futurama, which started in 1999, and Phil Hartman's passing (his final episode aired in Season 10) was the sign the golden era of the show was over. Oh well, an entire decade of high quality comedy is nothing to sneeze at.

Like most I stopped watching many many years ago but from what I've seen...that episode with the screaming caterpillar thing. Nothing funny about it, just pure irritation.

Special mention for "All Singing, All Dancing" if we count clip shows.

- The one where Flanders wife died(Im honestly surprised the episode went over check and they though this was ok)
- The one with Lisa faking being a cool girl just to be friends with a cool group (bonus point for the episode making it feel like she is right and poor her)
The episode where Homer get arrested for kicking a can (thats way too brainrot)
- Actually, most of Lisa focused episodes because most of them make it look like she is either right or the episode make it feel like the viewer need to have symphaty for her
- Any episode that have those 2 stupid bully characters because they are never funny
