I, Robot by Isaac Asimov is classic science fiction, and a timely read with the movie just hitting theaters (though they don't have that much in common). A great short story collection, each one examining a new fascinating dilemma in Robot nature. Every tale is a page-turner, as well as thought-provoking.

The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. Even the weakest books in the series are fun, and the best ones...well, they're amazing fun.
There are about 30 of them out so far, and you don't really have to read them in a particular order to understand them, so you got a lot to choose from.
