Need some Brit Rock

I used to listen to tons of British rock groups but over the past few years they've all disbanded or evolved in such a way that they just don't scratch that itch any more.

Kaiser Chiefs were my absolute favorite for this kind of stuff until the drummer quit and their sound went completely generic. Their new albums are a total snore.

I love Noel Gallagher's solo output, but none of it has that raw energy of the early Oasis stuff.

Muse used to be great but now their albums tend to be of the "3-4 good songs" variety.

I love Radiohead, but that's kind of a different thing.

I tried listening to Kasabian but found Velociraptor! totally forgettable outside of a couple of songs.

I've heard Arctic Monkeys are good, so maybe that's the next step.

What else should I check out?

Arctic Monkeys are very good, they and Kaiser Chiefs are post-punk revival/garage rock so maybe check out some other bands in that vein if you haven't, e.g. Bloc Party, Editors, The Libertines, Franz Ferdinand

The American post-punk revival bands are probably more well known: The Strokes, The White Stripes, Interpol, The Killers

primal scream - their sound changes every other album, from rock to blues to country to electronica. Vanishing Point, More LIght and Beautiful Future are must listen. Give xtrmntr, riot city blues, chaosmosis and evil heat a listen.

stone roses - one of the best british bands ever, even if they only have two albums

gomez - from rock to blues to jazzy rock to rock rock

Kasabian - their first album was the best. their other albums are not as awesome

charlatans UK - they've been around since 1991 and their albums vary from amazing to horrible pieces of shit, but their newest album isn't half bad

Arctic Monkeys
The Fratellis (Scotland)
Chumbawamba (no joke, they're amazing)
The Smiths
The Cribs
The Libertines
The Wombats (music is fun but they're lyrics are usually shit)
PAWS (Scotland, Cokefloat! is an amazing album)

brit punk rock:
The Adicts
Annalise
The Clash
Frank Turner
Pogues
Public Image Ltd.

edit: I'd say give Frank Turner a whirl.

Recovery
I Still Believe

Arctic Monkeys all the way OP. Their first few albums are probably more up your alley than the last couple given what you listed, but all of it is great.

Arctic Monkeys is a good call.

Also Blur (obviously), Supergrass, Charlatans, Manic Street Preachers for a more old school thing.

Oh and the last few albums from The Coral have been amazing. Worth checking out.

Mansun is a criminally underrated band, their first two albums are pretty great, although you can ignore their third one

I got really into attack of the grey lantern lately .. great stuff .. there’s a 3 disc reissue of with all the b sides.. not on Spotify tho unfortunately

been meaning to get around to six as I hear that’s even better and I’ve heard Radiohead were a fan of them

also recommend The verve reissues

Six is bananas. Some seem to find it a bit much, since it's basically an album full of songs made by combining disparate fragments of songs, but I prefer it to Attack of the Gray Lantern.

I really like Royal Blood. Saw them open for Queens of the Stone Age. I'd say they're kind of a blend of Black Keys, QotSA, with maybe a bit of Muse.

Edit: And for the lulz: The Darkness just released a new album.

... And I'm surprised how decent it turned out.

Reef (Glow and Replenish albums) & Terrorvision (how to make friends and influence people & regular urban survivors) were mainstays in the 90s for me.

Ash (1977) too though they're Irish AFAIK.

This was going to be my suggestion. I don't listen to a lot of English rock bands but they do have something tangible about them that has been quite refreshing

Don't know how well it fits but Everything Everything is an incredible band. Their last album is fantastic but Get to Heaven is one of the best albums ever IMO.

First 2 albums by the takes
First 3 albums by the cribs
First 3 albums by Arctic monkeys
First album by black kids (I'm not sure if they're British tho lol)
First album by king krule if u tryna chill
First album by sunshine underground

Hmm there are a lot, and if u add the early 2000s NYC music scene youll be set for a while

Notbing But Thieves

Biffy Clyro

Royal Blood (essential)

Alternatively, for a real "britrock" sound try:

Arctic Monkeys
The Enemy
The Courteeners

I mean, Manic Street Preachers are clearly the best guys.

Also, give British Sea Power, Public Service Broadcasting and PJ Harvey a go.

Six is like Mansun crossed with the Mars Volta or something. It's a crazy album, but utterly brilliant.
