Need some Brit Rock

I got really into attack of the grey lantern lately .. great stuff .. there’s a 3 disc reissue of with all the b sides.. not on Spotify tho unfortunately

been meaning to get around to six as I hear that’s even better and I’ve heard Radiohead were a fan of them

also recommend The verve reissues

Omg drop everything and listen to Six. Seriously.

Ugh their catalog is gutted off of Spotify. They don't have the best 2 albums on there anymore. That ruins my day.

I know a lot of people find these bands middle of the road but I love Stereophonics and Ocean Colour Scene.

Also second Bigfy Clyro and Royal Blood.

Try Kasabians later stuff, God Bless this acid house is a great track.

Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm/Weekend In The City/Intimacy

Arctic Monkey’s WPSIATWIN/Favourite Worst Nightmare

Foals’ Antidotes/Total Life Forever/Holy Fire

Doves - Lost souls. Especially if you're into psychedelic Britpop.

I used to listen to tons of British rock groups but over the past few years they've all disbanded or evolved in such a way that they just don't scratch that itch any more.

Kaiser Chiefs were my absolute favorite for this kind of stuff until the drummer quit and their sound went completely generic. Their new albums are a total snore.

I love Noel Gallagher's solo output, but none of it has that raw energy of the early Oasis stuff.

Muse used to be great but now their albums tend to be of the "3-4 good songs" variety.

I love Radiohead, but that's kind of a different thing.

I tried listening to Kasabian but found Velociraptor! totally forgettable outside of a couple of songs.

I've heard Arctic Monkeys are good, so maybe that's the next step.

What else should I check out?

The first two Placebo albums.

The Wildhearts. The best British rock band of the 90s. Maybe longer. Go and listen to a song called BE MY DRUG, or a song called DO THE CHANNEL BOP, or a song called NITA NITRO.

Here are some albums you should listen to.

The Wildhearts' PHUQ
Therapy?'s TROUBLEGUM
Manic Street Preachers' THE HOLY BIBLE
Kenickie's AT THE CLUB
Suede's DOG MAN STAR

And yes, The Arctic Monkeys are great. Personally, I prefer their heavier stuff, so try AM or HUMBUG, I think.

Also, Everything Everything are a tremendous band.

Nobody makes rock music here any more, listen to Grime m8

skrrrrrt, pap pap pap

More seriously, I cant really think of any decent new rock groups here since the Arctic Monkeys, it's a dying genre.

Biffy Clyro - an unbeatable live band. Go watch some of their live shows on YouTube. They are amazing

Liam’s new album is awesome. Check out his last band too - Beady Eye

The Fratellis are fun and enjoyable

Frank Turner - stunning, especially live. One of the best British punk acts, even though it’s wider than just traditional punk

Arctic Monkeys, but some of their later albums are questionable. The debut is among the finest rock albums of all time though

King Blues - hard London punk. An amazing band

Others:

The Enemy
The Twang
Bloc Party
The Libertines
Stone Roses
Garbage

This album shaped my adolescence and continues to do so even now. There's something weird about it that I'll find a new segment in some random song that I'll appreciate so much more.. Firesuite and Sea Song are amongst my favourite tunes of all time. Such an amazing album.

Liam's new album is supposedly pretty good. Haven't got around to listening to it yet.

British Sea Power (the first 3 albums only)

also Everything Everything and The Horrors, even if they don't really fit in, as they are the best bands of the last few years

Check out FOALS albums: 'Total Life Forever' and 'Antidotes'. Really good stuff there. Songs: Cassius, Tron, Miami, and Black Gold

Also Iron Maiden's first few albums for a more rock/pinkish sound, but prob not your style

Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm/Weekend In The City/Intimacy

Arctic Monkey’s WPSIATWIN/Favourite Worst Nightmare

Foals’ Antidotes/Total Life Forever/Holy Fire

This guy knows

Frank Turner (my personal favourite)
Bloc Party (first two albums)
Arctic Monkeys
The Subways
Lonely The Brave
Biffy Clyro
Wolf Alice

Edit: some more:

Muncie Girls
Chvrches
Enter Shikari
Heck
Million Dead

You want Porcupine Tree. Start with their most accessible album, In Absentia, and see if that grabs you. If it does, there's a pretty extensive catalogue to catch up on between them and their frontman's solo work; Steven Wilson.

Probs mentioned, but Spiritualised and Six By Seven are good gets. Ladies and Gentlemen... and The Things We Make, specifically. Idlewild.

McClusky/Future of the Left for the rawer side.

A best of of Foals would be a good album too.

This. Six is probably up there with my favourite albums of all time.

Also try Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Wolf Alice, Biffy Clyro, Frank Turner and Nothing But Thieves for good modern stuff. Chvrches too, but they're more electro pop than rock. Really good.

Gay Dad for 90s stuff.

Anything by Ginger Wildheart.

Whether it be with the Wildhearts, Mutation, Hey Hello, solo, whatever it is. One of the most prolific but massively underrated songwriters the UK has ever seen.

Also check out the Scaramanga Six. Best band in the world right now.

Gonna go with albums:

Biffy Clyro - The Vertigo of Bliss
Enter Shikari - Take To The Skies
Kula Shaker - K
Feeder - Comfort In Sound
The Verve - Urban Hymns
The Libertines - The Libertines
The Futureheads - The Futureheads

Couple of caveats, both Biffy Clyro and Enter Shikari have had a change in their sound since the albums I mentioned, so later albums might interest you even if the listed ones don't.

Also I feel very alone in my love for Feeder and Kula Shaker haha (KS is admittedly a guilty pleasure)

Bigtime edit: Baby bird - Ugly Beautiful (there's so much more to Babybird/Stephen Jones than just You're Gorgeous)

Don't know if they're quite rock, but I've always enjoyed Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagoneseque is a a great album. Also, if you fancy something a bit more Welsh, go with Super Furry Animals - maybe start with Rings Around the World.

Oh, get some Joy Division as well!

Echo 1975 and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Viola Beach have some great songs, swings and waterslides in particular. RIP.

Foals, Mountain at my Gates and My Number are my favourite.

The Hunna, Bonfire.

The Courteneers

Feeder were for a long time my favourite band. Seen them live 3 times! Though Echo Park is the best album followed by Yesterday Went Too Soon

No shit, that’s why I mentioned them. But some people might not like the thick Scottish accent.

you didn't need to say they are scottish but ... what does the accent come into it? if they don't like it then fair enough but it's no reason to say it.

Aww, I feel honored.

A lot of great options listed already -- I'm going to suggest some that haven't been mentioned or rarely mentioned thus far. My biggest rec (and sadly it's only been shared by one other person so far, which is indicative of their bizarre lack of success) is The Rifles. These guys have been putting out amazing tunes for over a decade now and really have never caught on beyond being relatively niche even in the UK. They never tour America which fucking sucks, but I did get to see them tour in support of Paul Weller back in 2008.

The Last Shadow Puppets are a side project of Alex Turner's (Arctic Monkeys) and if you're a fan of theirs, it's a natural progression.

Another northern band that put out some really high quality stuff in the 90s and early 00s is Embrace. They were lead by two brothers (the McNamaras) and were sort of originally pitched when their debut came out as the next oasis due to the similarities but they never really caught on internationally. Their debut album (The Good Will Out) and Out of Nothing are both really great. Out of Nothing has a song called Gravity that was penned by Coldplay.

The Boxer Rebellion are a London band with an American frontman who moved there to do FSU's study abroad program but ultimately dropped out and settled down there. They have been around for a long time now and had a few singles that have had some success in the US (they had a little period where they had a nice run on the iTunes charts.. I don't know if I've ever heard them on the radio) but have been very much an indie band for most of their 16 years. New album coming out soon with a lead single called What The Fuck? which is excellent. They've gone through a sort of variety of sounds with their debut being much heavier and fuzzier. One of my faves.

No mentions yet for Friendly Fires who I adore. Pala is one of my all time favorite records -- they're much dancier than the previously mentioned bands. Been awhile since they put anything out sadly.

The Vaccines have never topped their debut (What Did You Expect from The Vaccines?) but what an absolute gem it is. One of my favorite debut albums from this decade.. it still holds up very, very well.

Little Man Tate were very much an aughts band but their debut (About What You Know) is still a blast to listen to. They are from Sheffield like the Arctic Monkeys but they flamed out relatively quickly. If you like the early Arctics stuff, you'll dig them.

Super Furry Animals had a very long career so that's a big catalog to try and delve into, but they usually have a few gems per album. They're a strange band though and their singer Gruff Rhys has quite a thick accent so I'd say they're hit or miss perhaps. Love Kraft is maybe their most accessible album -- perhaps give that a shot. They have an album that is in Welsh.

Pete Doherty's band that he formed after The Libertines broke up, Babyshambles, is worth checking out. I think you could describe them as a little uneven, but at their heights they put out some amazing songs. My now wife introduced me to them by their single "Fuck Forever" which I took as a good sign.

The Joy Formidable are a Welsh rock band with one of the best debut albums (The Big Roar) I've ever heard. The stretch of songs from tracks 3 to 6 is of such outrageous quality that it's hard to describe. A must listen.

Jake Bugg is kind of an acquired taste because his voice can be a little bit grating apparently (my wife cannot stand him) but he's worth checking out. A young guy who has put out a number of albums in short order, his self-titled debut remains his most successful by far. A few major standout tracks on it.

When The Horrors came out, I absolutely loathed them. Hated their look and their persona and it made it impossible for me to even try and listen to their music.. just eyerollingly bad to me. And then they pivoted and changed their sound on their second album and have become one of the best bands in England since. Very different than most everyone I've mentioned but totally amazing. Skying remains one of my favorite albums this decade.

Ash are still kicking around but I'll be honest and say I have not heard anything from them in the last decade at least.. but those first few albums were absolute magic. I think you could comfortably compare them to someone like Matthew Sweet. Just fun, power pop rock with a bit of a Britpop flair.

I could go on and on with more 90s recs, but I'll close out with a few more recent bands: Circa Waves (hard driving fun punk rock), Viola Beach (another fun and upbeat band that tragically passed away in an auto accident while on tour), Temples (very much a pyschadelic 60s/70s throwback) and Years & Years (dancey).

This was kind of a fun exercise so I just went ahead and made a Spotify playlist with a few songs from each band listed. You can check it out here: https://open.spotify.com/user/abellwillring/playlist/6I3NbjDXGjY6SyI0YfMWiX

Doh, last post.. gonna quote myself for the next page.
