Okay. So:

- 360 TE Stick
- MC Cthulhu board dual mod
- octagonal gate
- bat top stick

Is it worth all the money?

Bat top and Octo gate are cheap. Not sure how much for the dual mod, I never got that far since my stick just shit its pants and I had to return it.

Since when does GS charge tax on store credit?

Cost in store: $149.99
Cost online: $161.99 + shipping

Fuck.

I'm a very casual fighting game player but I enjoy them a lot ( I've spent over 200 hours in SFIV) and I'm thinking of picking up a stick. I don't have much money to spare so my first thought was to get the madcatz SE SFIV stick for the X360.

200 hours is no where near casual. Get a TE stick and you'll never regret it.

What state do you live in? That sort of thing isn't up to GameStop. That is up to your city, township, county or state government.

In New Jersey, store credit isn't taxed. In PA, it is apparently.

Anyway, the MC board is $45. I know a friend of a friend who will do all of this for me for a low price.

Unless it breaks on you, like mine did. T_T

Store credit isn't taxed in NY either. That's how I bought the [now broken and returned] TE stick in the first place. I'm just trying to figure out where the problem comes in trying to use my store credit to order one through GS.com -- it looks like GS.com treats the credit as a giftcard, which is eligible for tax. The principle of getting screwed out of $12 in credit because my stick was broken and I had to return it is about the only thing stopping me from actually ordering it. :|

Where can I get all the details of the MvC2 stick?

It's going to be $169.99. It "ships" the 13th of October. You can pre-order at GameStop. There aren't any photos of it yet. The SKU numbers are 804114 for the 360 one and 804115 for the PS3 one.

Just picked up a TE for $130 from Amazon. I was trying to get in on the Frys deal yesterday, but they don't like non-US billing addresses. Bastards...

Wasn't the joystick as far as I could tell. It was either a part of the PCB that was hosed or one of the connections. The connections all seemed solid when I returned the stick to stock, so I don't think it was that.

So I'd either have to deal with Mad Catz CS, which didn't seem like a great plan, given their limited availability and the likelihood I'd have to pay to ship them the stick. I opted for returning it hoping a nearby GS would have a stick that could get transferred to my local store... no luck, only a PS3 version. :[

I just dont see the price justification of buying the TE stick unless you have the money to afford the luxury or your serious/competitive about your fighting games and join tournaments, so you will need the best.

In an age where a game costs 60 dollars, a 120 dollar stick isn't THAT big of an investment.

QUESTION: Would it be possible to put this photo on the stick?

http://www.barrylou.com/art/film/sevenSamurai.jpg
If so, is it a lot of work? :<

Also, i hear it has a square gate? Should i buy an octagonal one??
Art swap tutorial is here:

As far as your square vs octagonal question, it's up to personal preference. You'd have to try both and see which your prefer to be sure. This video might help.

Hmmmm. So square's are the "best" because diagonal input detection is equal for every direction, while the others, it's not. I'll practice with my TE stick (when it comes on tomorrow) if I like it. If not, I'll see if I can swap with it a octagonal gate.

:lol :lol :lol

I think this is the greatest mod ever created...How do you stop laughing long enough to play? haha :lol

Fuck, I just realized you can dual mod a X360 controller so it plays on the PS3 too. I got the PS3 SF4 TE stick from Frys for the 1 day sale but the only games I have worth playing on the PS3 is SF4 and HD Remix. I would love to get the X360 stick for random XBLA stuff like Ikaruga and Pac Man CE, but I dont have any fighting games on it. Grrrr...fuck

I wonder if I can go back and exchange it since I havent opened it. Is it easy to mod? I've never done any soldering work before but I guess I could find someone

Gaf I really need your help :(

I'm trying to stick This Image on this Template (TE).

The best I can come up is this,
2zitt39.jpg

I'd just have to fill the rest with more sky but I'm not really satisfied :( HElp? :(

edit: i'm really tempted in using that pedostick-TE, anyone have the photoshop file?

You can dualmod the PS3 TE to work on 360... you'll need to sacrifice a cheap common ground 360 wired controller PCB... I believe the madcatz ones they sell at gamestop and that bizzare old XBLA controller that came with the arcade download codes are most common for dual mods.

IIRC, donkey show's significant other custom made it. If anything, you'd have to PM him directly.

That's amazing.. I'm def. gonna use that--Thanks so much dementia
Few things,

1) Why is it so dark?

2) How come its not a .PSD? From what I understand I just take the PSD file to Kinkos and have them print it on lemilabe, Can I do this with a .PDF as well? And dimensions are already set by the PSD/PDF file? Am I on the right track? :(

3) Also, how do you change the colors of your buttons? On the TE, can you insert little pictures underneath the buttons to fill in the main plate?

Love your design man, brilliant ! i get geekchills everytime i look at it ~_~

:lol How did it break?

Zangief's Ultra Combo was the last input the joystick ever recognized.

I did a crazy 720 (maybe more), hit the combo button I set for LP+MP+HP, ultra combo worked... next stage loaded up and the joystick input didn't register anymore. :( I tried it on several xbox 360s and such and no luck, ended up returning it. Thought I wasn't going to be able to find another one after that. I ended up lucking out... saved a few bucks in the end too. :)

Hello Gaf, I currently have a masstick with an 8 way joystick and convex buttons. Ive been using it for 10 years and it still works perfectly fine. So I do want something extremly durable. However I have been wanting a japanese stick so I have been doing a little shopping. and it has come down to the following.

1sst off, is there any difference between the following sticks? ive noticed the white/black have the same buttons along the top as the blazblue, am I just paying for aesthetic or are there any physical differences between the 3.

l_hrap3stick.jpg

hrap_3sa_w.jpg

BB_stuff_01.jpg

And I am also looking at
sfiv-x360-tourney-stick.jpg

ive tried the sf4 one out and it is really great, but I love the weight of the hrap sticks. So any advice would be great. thanks.

In terms of parts quality, the TE (last one) & HRAP-SA (white one) are the best, followed by the HRAP 3 (top one) followed last by the BlazBlue one.

The latter 2 both use Hori buttons instead of Sanwas, and the BlazBlue one has them soldered directly to the PCB so they aren't easy to swap. All four use a Sanwa JLF stick.

I'd get the TE or HRAP-SA

Hmm, interesting...does this make it any harder than modding it the other way around? At least I have the option if I decide to, just need to get someone to do it for me since I hate playing anything inside hardware stuff.

It's much easier to dual mod a 360 stick as PS3 boards are much easier to come by and Toodles on SRK makes a great DIY kit (Chtulhu kit) that streamlines the process to make a stick PS3/PS2/PSX/PC compatible.

You may be happier if you mod the stick to use a octo-gate instead of the square -- as I understand it, traditionally square gates/ball tops are standard japanese cabinet parts while american cabinets tend to stick with octogate/bat tops.

Stick with it dude. When SFIV came out we had a few local pad warriors. We gave them shit and made fun of them until they picked up sticks. Then they looked like complete scrubs for the next two or three weeks, but once they got really used to it you could see noticeable improvement in their game. And it seems as they are progressing much faster than they ever did on the pad since. Two of them are damn good now.

If you've never used a stick before it's going to take getting used to no matter if your gate is square or octagonal. I would just get used to the square gate. It is superior for everything, which is fact... even if some people who didn't give the square gate a chance say otherwise! Especially if you want to use charge characters.
Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I can already notice a huge improvement from the first day I got the stick and it's starting to feel very comfortable. I have 15 or so years of using a D-pad to to break, so I imagine it'll be a while before I'm 100%. Now I'm debating sticking with square or going octo. My accuracy is getting better so I think I'll see how much better I can get before I decide if I need the extra corners or not.

I always favored bats when I did play in the arcades, but playing just now, I noticed that I grab the bottom of the ball in between my middle and ring finger to do a lot of moves. It feels really natural to do it that way. I guess I'm discovering a lot about my "fighting game self" from this little purchase.

Thanks again.
