NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

i recently got one of the 90$ tournament sticks from Frys, but already have the other arcade stick from SF4. is it worth it to use the tournament stick and try to sell the old one? i have had no issues with the old one (maybe the occasional joystick jamming) and like using it.

just wondering if i would like using the tournament one more. the tournament edition uses a square gate as well right? im not really picky, so i dont think i would notice a different feel in the buttons..

This is a better picture of the new flavor TE:

Been planning on getting a fighting stick for ages as I love Capcom Vs SNK 2, and guilty gear, and with blaze blue coming out here I think it would be a wise investment.
Been doing my best to read up for info in this thread and what I gather is, a SF4 TE 360 with a Chtulhu kit to make it platform happy is the best way.

The main problem is living at the bottom of the world where the TE sticks costs $268 USD (or $400 NZD) so I'm trying to find the best way to get one without getting my wallet smashed.
I'd will also get the Octagonal slot, but every time I've gone to the akihabara shop the web shop has always been closed.
So what would be the best route as I've looked on ebay, but none will ship to this tiny country (New Zealand) and no luck on Play-Asia either.

Any advice other than taking a holiday to the States?

MarkMan: What's up with those Asian TE sticks? Are they going to be available for sale? I really want to get one while I'm in Tokyo...

You will notice the difference. Keep the TE
or give it to me

Okay, I finally wrote up the story on building the MAME computer. I say story because I probably talk more about the hamburgers we ate along the way than the actual cab, but here you go :lol

Next up: setting it all up and the control panel. I'm going to ask Shelby if she wants to release the Egret II control overlay she created since some have asked and nothing like it actually exists online.

never modded one of them game based hraps and never bothered to take pics of a dual modded ps3 based te.

kind've funny the arcana hrap has those hex screws on the faceplate but buttons are soldered to the pcb. :/

random bonus my humble ps3 setup where i practice combos i can't do in matches against real people. :P http://i108.photobucket.com/albums/n5/akuma001/IMG_0021.jpg

Hey, running this by for suggestions before I print it.

had some help from silentrage and others, so thanks for that :)

Thoughts? Thinking of taking silentrage's suggestion to get Clear Buttons. What do you guys think?

EDIT: Wait, I just realized two buttons are missing.......

I'm loving my TE stick (which is my first stick). The only thing I have trouble doing, are SRKs and dashes. Everything else came pretty natural. I might look into getting an octagonal gate as well as a bat top for the stick.

People always seem to be excited about the Namco stick for the original playstation(the black one with yellow buttons). What is it that's do great about this stick? My friend has one he's trying to get rid of and I was thinking about picking it up as I don't have a good stick for my PS2.

I got around $700 NZD worth of parts from these guys a few months back - good service.

Cheers for the link and reply!

Just wondering what did you make with the $700 worth of parts?
I'm just looking at making a simple stick for cross platform between 360 and ps3. So what would I have to do for the base electronics?
I can build the box and solder, just bamboozled with wiring where what where.
Cheers again

It's nice and small/portable and the parts are probably the best non-arcade spec clones in a low-end stick.

Thank You Sir! :D

I thought the blue buttons for the AH2 stick were going to be temporary until I get pink ones, but I think I'll keep those there. I'll switch to a blue ball top too.

I Happ/Cthulhu modded 2 SF:AE sticks, Sanwa/Cthulhu modded my old PS1 Namco stick, Sanwa modded one of my Agetec Dreamcast sticks and have a Cthulhu PCB and heaps of parts for my next stick + got my brother some Sanwa push buttons for his HRAP3. I'll post some pics next week - heading to Auckland for the weekend for Cirque du Solei. Why do you want your stick cross platform? If it's a must have, I'm sure the wiring wont be too difficult! There's heaps of info over at http://forums.shoryuken.com/forumdisplay.php?f=177.

Finally completed my Mad Catz sticks. The white ones are indeed extra, extra sexy. Looking forward to the Asian release. And I got the PS3 version of the little, hot SE to go next to my 360 version...best little stick, the SE. I'm hoping the mold gets used some more.

Yes Boss, you're now the new Markman. Your collection is ridiculous.

I like the art on the Japanese TEs (I'm not a huge fan of the American TE artwork).

And have we heard anything about these MVC2 sticks yet?

Those are the Comic-con Edition ones, not the Japanese ones in his pic.

Give the square gate a chance first. Remember, there's no need to ride the gate and the clicking sounds pretty much tell you if you're doing the motion correctly. Square gate is the best all-around imo.

I'm still waiting for the review of that adapter that allows you to use your Playstation pad(Or PS2 Stick) on the 360. BTW, that MvC2 Stick better have HAPP parts.

Feck that is a ton of modding there!
I'll be happy with 360 and ps3 stick, so I guess the thing is now what would be the best base to start from, and start hacking from there. Ohh and figure out what buttons and stick would feel the best looking at Lizard licks selection.

nice, my sis is going to that so you lurking around the north island?

My dilemma is whether to cop a TE I found in a teeny little game shop by me (owner immediately noticed my look of shock/lust!) or hold out for the Seimitsu hrap which drops in October. Thing is, I prefer the LS-32 but dunno if I will like the buttons. My only solution will be to get both I think.

Sad news fellows, I ordered a TE from newegg awhile back , it showed up worked great so a friend of mine ordered one as well. His showed up today and 1 of the buttons doesn't work.

Do you guys think it's a manufacturing defect, manhandling during shipping (newegg does use ups) or something else ?

At the moment I think he's prepping an RMA or whatever with newegg to send it back in exchange for a different one. I feel a little bad just because after gettting one myself finally he ordered it through them on my good word.

Has he tried it multiple times? Sometimes the TE stick has a bad habit of locking up a button but a quick unplug will fix it right away.

Not only that. Sometimes the wires underneath are pushing against the back of the button (that black part underneath) and causing it to jam. I had that happen once and I just opened it up and repositioned the wire and it came unjammed.

One of my buttons, L2 for for the PS3 TE, arrived sticky out of the box. I just opened it up and found that the wiring underneath was somehow bunched up underneath it and blocked the up-and-down progress of the button so I just pushed it out of the way before I screwed the top back on and it worked fine after that.

I know. I was just referring to them in my post.

I got my stick back from Akuma001. He did his dual-mod magic. Unfortunately, I don't have a tv (replacement coming).

And Yes Boss has moved from casual to enthusiast stick collector.

Akuma001 does good work!

Here's a silly question but, can arcade buttons operate my car horn?

My car horn is a piece of junk. A big hunk of rubber that's supposed to connect two wires when you push on it, and then spring back again to disconnect them, but it doesn't push so well, or spring back so well anymore either (which is bad, as my horn has gotten stuck in the "on" position before).

I was thinking I should mod in a button or two, something I could just drop into a drilled hole and then wind a nut on the back, and then I realized that arcade buttons were exactly what I wanted, and that they'd be awesome.

But are they built to handle the kind of electricity that a car horn would use? I wouldn't want to buy them and drill my steering wheel just to fry them the first time someone cuts me off in traffic.

HRAP 3 SA is really nice. I prefer the cable storage and heftier feel/heavier build of the TE though. This is just personal assessment, but HRAPs seem domey and hollow compared to VSHG and FSTE, even if there is only a 1lb difference.

I like the HARP 3 over the TE Stick. For one, The stick is a little stiffer(Not HAPP Stiff) compare to that loose Sanwa stick on the TE Stick. And, I love the "SEGA Arch"(The button layout) Compare to the one the TE Stick uses(I seem to miss buttons from time to time)But, like _dementia mention, is all preference. But, I do like the TE case over the HARP 3. But VSHG owns all :) Just saying.

I'm trying to change the artwork for an SE stick that I'm modding. I got the template for the stick but it's huge!!!

I know I shouldn't be stretching images because it will come out pixelated. So I found an HD quality one and it's still too small to fit it across and when I zoom in to 100%, it's a little pixelated.

My question is, would it be okay for me to stretch it out? Was the template made too big on purpose? I don't want to go to Kinko's, spend some money on getting it laminated and find out that it doesn't look good.
