NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

I hear that the TvC joystick has the option of setting the joystick to act as either analog joystick or as the joypad itself.

I've been pondering a low-skill-level hacking of a Classic Controller into an arcade stick, but providing it with two analog "lever" joysticks and a ball digital one. I'm just annoyed that I haven't actually seen a joystick which appears to fully support all the functionality of current generation console controllers.

... or have I missed one?

nah, I think there are some 360/PS3 compatible sticks but they are from China or something.

Actually, what I'd -also- like is a GameCube -> Classic Controller adapter.

I've seen every adapter BUT that one so far... the other way around is currently possible.

The TvC stick looks nice, but not $80 nice (to me, at least), and I have a Hori Wii stick sitting around that could use some hacked analog capability...

I finally received my TE-S and I have to say I was really disappointed. I wasn't planning on getting one since I'm happy with the first version, but the Amazon sale plus the out of reach price of the Hori VLX prompted me to pull the trigger. My dissapointment is with the top panel. It's not as accessible as the first TE. At first I thought the art work would be glued to a metal panel the same size as the artwork. I would just unscrew it and the whole thing would come off. Nope. The top part is just the artwork glued to the plastic casing and a metal panel from the original TE. This wouldn't be a problem for those who want to swap out the art and use a plexi on top. But I'm just swapping out the buttons. The white buttons just seem out of place to me. If I peel off the artwork, it would either fold, rip or end up just flaring. It's doable but I would have to re-glue it if I decide on switching buttons again, just so it's sits flush to the stick. My impression of it now is that it's a cheap version of it's former self. The strength of the MC line of sticks was the accessibility, I'm not sure what happened with the "S" models. PS - thanks to singlongkuen from SRK for the beautiful Vewlix template.

i haven't messed with the new s sticks yet but if they are anything like the old sticks you can probably still take them apart from the bottom if you are worried about messing with the art.

it's alot of screws and red glue gunk though. :P

For all intents and purposes, it's the same stick, which is why it's a bit disappointing. Instead of building on the success of the first one they seem to have cut corners with this one.

I guess I will have to go through the bottom. Thanks for the tip. If I ever decide on modding this one I'll be in touch. :D

Edit: I can see they literally did cut corners, but you know what I mean :lol

You could reuse a fullpanel arthong plexi from the old TE right? The screws and dimensions are the same I'd assume. Maybe they didn't want to put the guy out of business. :D

I really like the trimmed down design as the TE side panels were a little too much for me. But yeah the white buttons really look weird. A couple odd black buttons is fine, but a couple odd white ones just stand out way too much.

OK stick experts...

I have never owned a stick before but am giving a bit of... Mind Service to the idea of getting one for my PS3 with SSFIV when it comes out. It would also be cool if said stick could in some way be used on or hacked easily to work with a PC (but this is not a deal-breaker in total).

The thing is I live in Japan and know nothing about sticks or stick quality.

So what is the stick I could walk out there and pick up, the best bang for my buck as a stick beginner? Any tips?

Hmm...well, I can change that for you. I have a white 360 one in need of dual-mod love. I could care less about switching the artwork.

Yup you sure can. You can even transfer the whole top plate assembly of the original TE onto it.

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 or Hori Real Arcade Pro V3-SA I guess.

Thinking I might go ahead and get one of those V3-SAs then in April, Amazon's got them for 12,000 with free shipping here. Can you use it on a PC without going crazy with effort?

We didn't want to change the "S" too much from the original. We just wanted to give a different kind of TE to the consumer.

I mean.

SSFIV.

Is still SF4, with some things changed.

TE "S"

Is still a TE... obviously, with some things changed.

BTW, I can successfully mod a TE "S" and keep the art in tact. You can even use the sticky area still provided you don't try to go crazy and yank at all corners/ends. I guess I should have warned ppl who were gonna mod it first lol.

These 3 sticks can easily be found in Japan when SSFIV comes out.

- Mad Catz Super Street Fighter IV Tournament Edition "S" - (this one is a bit diff from the US ones)

- Hori Real Arcade PRO 3 SA

- Hori Real Arcade PRO V3 SA

- Hori RAP Premium VLX SA

Can't go wrong with either one. But man, some (one of em) is super expensive...

Look em up ;)

MC Chuthlu PCB will make damn near anything work.

For Wii though I posted a guide for the 3rd Party Nyko classic controller I used on SRK:

Yeah I've been trying to do some research here this morning. Just hope I can still get them when the release rolls around. Thanks for all the advice (and no I don't think I'll be spending enough to get that VLX)!

I got MvC TE stick a few weeks ago and haven't used it yet. It's waiting for SSF4.
Its really common, but I love the art. It has a slight metallic look which doesn't show up in photos. Since I like the art, I'm not tempted to mod it... at least not yet. I also doubt if I'm good enough at SF4 that I'd notice much difference with better parts.

It already comes with the best parts you can get, why would you want to mod it?

I went home in the afternoon for lunch and..

VOILA!! THE SSFIV TE S Stick was waiting for me on the front door!!!!!!!!!

ITS A BEAUTY!!!!!!!!! I have never had an arcade stick before...but dang!!!!! This is a beauty and feels amazing!!! My gameplay is soooo gona change for the better!!!!!!

I had to drag myself back to office...cant wait for tonight to try out the baby!!!! Will post pics soon!!!!

Edit : Guys is it OK to have clicking noise on the stick when its moved around?

What parts to do I need to make my PS3 TE stick PC compatible?

Also, Snow Wolf where did you get that Triumvir dust washer!?

Isnt it already compatible with the PC? Sorry i am asking because im 90% sure that the 360 TE stick is compatible with the PC.

So from what I understand the LS-32 requires less movement to 'engage' the stick in a direction than the JLF, and assuming I'm correct, if I want a direct plug-in replacement for my TE do I purchase the LS-32-01 (PCB-mounted switches) as opposed to the standard LS-32, and do I need any additional parts?

Also, is there any place that has the black meshball in stock, both Lizard and Akihabara are sold out.

Thanks.

Well then, just ordered a custom etched plexiglass from http://www.tek-innovations.com/arthobbies/ for my Namco.

Fascinated to see what kind of quality it is and how soon i can get it :P

design as a quick photoshop, will also need to sink the screws on the stick:

I miss that stick. It was my favorite stick and I should have never sold mine to my friend ages ago. I think I'm gonna have to buy it back.

For anyone who has recently received buttons from Lizard Lick, about how long did it take? I'm wanting to mod my TE for SSFIV and want to know what to expect for wait time.

Kind of off topic, I'm trying to use a Hori FS3 to play Cave Story on PC (Windows 7 if it makes any difference). All the buttons seem to be doing their function, but the stick does nothing! Does anyone know how to fix this?

Will you be selling the SSF4 TEs at PAX East? I know a couple friends that would probably buy some. We'll definitely join the Where's Markman scavenger hunt and try to score some TE keychains. :D

Unless it's changed drastically, order now. You may get them when the game arrives. :lol

Seriously though. Shit works in waves and the ADD sorts aren't paying attention to stuff they should be buying before it's out.
