I'm thinking about getting a SFIV SE stick and modding it, since I have heard that the stock parts are awful. But I have a few questions...

Do most joysticks and buttons work? or only certain ones are compatible?

Where is the best place to buy them? I have heard of Lizard Lick, are there any other places?

I honestly want to keep this around $80, since i'm too cheap :lol .

Go with that. You won't regret it!

If you MUST get an SE stick, use the 30% off code on an SE then buy some parts.

As for joysticks/buttons compatibility.

Make sure you get Sanwa/Seimitsu 30mm buttons for the action buttons and make sure you either get a Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK or JLF-TP-8YT or Seimitsu LS-32-01 as those both have the 5-pin connector.
 
Okay, thanks for the help. I'll probably just eat the cost and get a TE or just get a fightpad as originally planned. If I get a TE it'll be my first stick, are the SSFIV ones any different? or are they pratically the same with the older models?
 
Just a question.

I have a Fightstick SE (Xbox360) with Sanwa Stick and Buttons. Been playing SF4 since it came out but going to switch to PS3 version for SSF4 and need a stick for that.

Where should I sell my stick besides Ebay? I want to get some money for it and it's in almost perfect shape.

You could dual mod it? Unless you wanted a TE or something.

If you want to sell it... You could try SRK.
 
I know I should read all 242 pages. I'm looking for the best stick for the money and I'm thinking about the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3. Is there anything cheaper and of higher quality?
 
Noob question. I'm using my modded Mushihime stick and it works fine on Windows Vista.
But on my desktop I'm using XP and it doesn't work right away.
It does recognize it as a Real Arcade Pro. EX though.
Can someone point me to where I need to go to get it to function?
 
MarkMan, were there any improvements made to the new SSIV fight pads? Or are they all the same as the original with a new lick of paint?

SF4 Tournament Editions can be found quite cheap sometimes, and check out MarkMan´s 30% discount offer thats on now.

LizardLick has been caught up on orders since around this time LAST YEAR. In fact, I just placed another order with them a couple of weeks ago and got it in the requisite 3 days from ordering. That stuff last year was because of a ridiculous rush.
 
Am I crazy or does Sanwa not make black OSBN buttons? I was just about to order some but I can't find any.

They make a pink version, so you'd think there would at least be a black one.

Pink are actually extremely common for arcade machines (think Sega Astro City color scheme, etc.).

Yeah, black Sanwa appears to be snap-in (OBSF) only.

Not too bad if you can do some simple soldering. Instructions were easy to follow. An assembled chimp board is probably $40 or $45. If you can't install it yourself it might $50 or something to get someone to do it.

If you don't want to go through that trouble I bet you could find a new TE for $90-100 (MadCatz PAX coupon?). It is nice being able to carry around one stick and have it work on both consoles though.

Ah, I overlooked those. That explains the odd color selection.

I guess I'll try buying Seimitsu buttons.
 
I haven't had any luck selling it on the BST thread, so I guess here will work too. I have the Soul Cal 2 Gamecube Arcade import stick, and was wondering if anyone would be interested. PM for price/photo. Very Very good condition, and has original box. :)

quick Q.. if I want to dual mod I should get the 360 TE? I have an HRAP EX for 360 and heard that it could not be modified so I'm looking to sell mine and pick up a TE. I primarily use a PS3 right now, but if I can have a dual stick I might as well, right?

Right. The 360 board has to be common ground, which the HRAP EX is not. Plus the TE is less of a pain to open up and mod than any of the HRAP series prior to the VX.

In fact, if you're careful, you can mod a TE/SE with almost no soldering involved.

Wow as much i love the TE S stick..im not able to pull off moves in KOF..and small hops are almost impossible!!

I gotta a long way to go :lol
 
Woot! Met MarkMan at pretty much the last moments we were both at PAX East and he hooked me up with two of those sweet keychains. What an awesome guy!
 
11minutes before midnight placing my order for a fightpad 30% off. Dang you $7.50 shipping bumping price back up.

*grins* could not find any Hentai fightsticks so ended up with a simple fightpad.

First fightpad for me.
 
Finally picked up an arcade stick. Yay! Grabbed the SFIV Fightstick with the PAX discount. Also grabbed BlazBlue from Gamestop this wekend.

I know Lizardlicks is the place to get upgraded buttons. What buttons,joystick and gate wold you guys suggest? Thanks

So I've been doing some regular playing/practice on both my SF4 TE Round 2 stick on my 360 and my PS3 Hori Real Arcade Pro 3. I really like my TE stick more just because the stick seems more "smooth" I guess is the word I'm looking for.

My problem is for the life of me I can't consistently do QCF...yet I can get QCB. I think the reason is the square gate just gets me caught up with these damn corners they put in the SF4 TE stick. I've had both sticks for well into a month+, and all other motions are easy. I can even FADC into stuff, but QCF is more or less a crap shoot for me to pull off.

My questions are these Gaf:

Should I buy a octagonal gate?
If so, where's the best place to save cash?

So, even though I'm a stick newb do I want to get the octo gate for my 360 TE round 2 stick ?

I also have this exact issue and am wondering if players are finding it more comfortable with an octo gate. Im going to be getting the GT-Y Octo Restrictor Plate as well.

i guess it couldn't hurt to try. i prefer square for general purpose after owning both, but everyone is different.

i order from gamingnow.net typically because they ship fast.

Sanwa GT-0 round gates aren't compatible with the JLF, you'd have to switch the entire stick lever for a Sanwa JLW if you want to install a round gate.

I checked that site, but I don't see them selling gates at all. Am I missing it somewhere?

Thanks for the heads up on round gates then I won't bother with that. Too much work/money, and I probably wouldn't be able to accomplish it without help from a buddy. :lol

I suppose it's worth ordering one to see if there is an improvement and if not it's only like 8-12 bucks down the hole. No biggy.

Great recommendation Dementia, I just ordered a JLF GT-Y and a Bat Top from gamingnow.net LizardLick is currently sold out of the GT-Y octo plate.

Shipping was a tad high, but its two day business class so its understandable. Thanks man!

The problem for me with octo gates is there's too much motion to do a QCF vs a square where's it's just a flick of a wrist. It's all preference but I much rather play on a square gate. First time users are always going to face this problem (cause I sure as hell did). Just takes time to adapt and it'll all come natural

Yeah I hear you there man, I am definitely new to sticks, and its sure as hell giving me issues. I'm going to give the octo gate a whirl, and see if it feels better. If not, I will switch back, and just practice....alot.

Stick with the square gate. There's a reason that square gates are and have always been the only gates used in fighting game arcade machines. Octagonal gates were made for use with a soccer game if I recall correctly. After some practice you'll find that if you don't "ride the gate" (push the stick all the way into the corners) you'll get all those motions out really fast and with no problems whatsoever. Just don't give up so soon.
 
Newbie here on the arcade stick front. Will I notice the difference in the se sticks or should I be ordering Sanwa parts and replace them from the start?
