The stick feels ok, I'm not used to play with sticks so maybe I can't say if the stick is good or bad, but now that I'm going to change the buttons probably it's the time to change the stick if the one that comes with the arcade stick is bad. Should I change it?, for which one?.

The lever in that stick is a Sanwa JLF. It's a really good Arcade-spec stick but if you're not liking it you can try something else. Generally, Seimitsu sticks are "snappier" thanks to smaller engage and tighter springs. I don't know if the default mounting bracket on that stick supports other levers though.

Sanwa OBSF-30 are indeed pop-in replacements for the stock Hori clone buttons.

I played one hour with it and the stick is great, the buttons not so much, so the Sanwa OBSF-30 are the ones to buy?.

I love OBSF-30. Just note they're much more sensitive than the standard Hori buttons. Many people have to get used to not activating them accidentally. 30mm Seimitsu buttons like the PS-14-G are another common replacement for HRAPs, but I prefer the sensitivity of Sanwa.
 
I am looking for some advice and some guidance.

On my 360, I own a SE and TE fightstick. I have swapped out the stick and buttons on my SE and I love it. I would love to dual mode the SE stick or even the TE stick. I have seen some boards listed on Lizard Lick, but I am not sure about the process.

Does anyone know of an online tutorial that will walk me through the process of dual modding a 360 SE or TE stick?

I have found a couple tutorials, but they seem to use the older boards, and I was hoping for something more recent.

Ideally, I am looking to build a arcade cabinet that will house a LCD and PS3, dedicated to run SSF4 and MvC3. This dual mode was to allow me to learn the basics to building a stick that I will eventually need for the cabinet.

Hope this comes through clear.
 
I wanted to update some news on my custom control panel that I'm making for the Vewlix clone I'm buying off Kray.

I special ordered a EL panel with the Control panel specs. This will sit under the art (printed on Photo back light film) and under the plexi.

The CP will have LED'S for the JLF's and LED'S for the blue buttons.

I'll update more as soon as the cab arrives. :)

You mean this adapter? Holy crap I never realized this would work on PS3. I have it since I bought the TVC stick a while ago: it actually gets a lot of use due to the fact that the PS3 TE doesn't actually work on my PC. I will have to try this out at home later.
 
decided to peek in the arcade stick thread on tech talk...hitboxes everywhere :O

I wouldn't mind learning one (if I could get over the initial learning curve im sure i would like it over a joystick) but man it's hard to justify making one :P

it seems like pdp is making something similar to a neogeo pad. im interested.
 
So I bought my first stick to mod used off Amazon and it would appear that the triangle button is pretty awful. It registers about 10% of the time.

What are the chances that this is a big enough issue that swapping out the buttons won't matter? If it's gonna cause more of a pain I'm just gonna return it and order another before I bust it open and start swapping out the parts.
 
What kind of stick?

If it were me, I'd open the thing up and switch the triangle button with...well, any other button, really. You don't even need to switch the button itself; just swap the wiring between it and any other button. If it's an easy-to-mod stick like the FightStick SE, this shouldn't even take you 5 minutes... maybe 10-15 at most if you've never done it before.

If the same physical button still barely works, then the problem is just that button, and if you were going to swap it out anyway, it's no deal.

I feel that in order to answer that question I would need to understand why folks use them for fighting games, and whether that reasoning also applies to shmups. I don't, however, know that reasoning...anybody else?
 
Yeah, it's a fight stick SE. Waiting on my Sanwa buttons to arrive still.

Thanks for the advice, was just worried that I'd open it up and find that it was the board or something and once I opened it up it'd be tough to convince the guy that it wasn't working correctly when I received it.

I will see if it's just a loose connection or something, or try swapping the wiring with another button like you said.
 
I think we need a huge special on TE fight sticks in celebration of MVC3 hitting soon

Hey, I've been thinking about getting a stick but the availability here in Sweden, to put it lightly, sucks so my options are extremely limited. Right now I'm have my eye on "Mad Catz Super Street Fighter Tournament Stick" for the 360 and was wondering what the consensus on it is? I don't know if it's called the same everywhere but according to the website it looks like this:

It's somewhat pricey though at $230 so I'm having a hard time justifying it, but I thought I should ask if it's even worthwhile to consider you know...
 
the madcatz TE's are pretty good. Top players use them and I own 3.

Even though it's not my favorite stick (needs Sega layouts, *nudge/wink*) they are well constructed and come with top of the line buttons and stick

Damn, I'm having a hard time justifying buying the TE stick so I'm looking at the Hori BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger - Special Edition Fighting Stick EX2 for about $64

Any thoughts on how it is as a entry level stick? The only stick I've ever used before is the Agatec stick for the Dreamcast, which I liked. Right now all I have for the 360 is the normal controller so anything should be better than that but still, have to ask. Sorry if I'm spamming the thread :P
 
Yeah buy a TE when another sale starts up. The cheapest I've seen them for is $70. The EX2 is "okay" but you'll be far happier with a TE (except not at $200+, that's outrageous).

I wouldn't pay more than $30 or so on an EX2, $40-50 or so on an SE, and $80-90 on a TE (<- not because it's not worth it, but because I see them cheaper than that quite a bit).
 
You know that Radiant Silvergun stick everyone was O_O! over awhile ago?

Hori killed it. Not happening anymore due to lack of sales interest. :(

Bummer! Dedicated licensed shooter sticks are hardly ever made.

On to the next one, whenever it might arrive.

At least they are doing a refresh of the new VX-SE mid next month for the release of Black Label and Pink Sweets.

It's the perfect stick for making the transition from pad to stick because, for the price, you're not gonna feel bad if you don't like stick. And by the time it breaks you'll be upgrading anyway.

But I will say that the Hori EX-SE makes the EX2 look like a toy. That is one sexy piece of kit.

I talked about the Mayflash adapter earlier in this thread. :P
Just press Home + L to switch the L and R buttons to digital instead of the default "analog" and it'll work without having to make a column dead.

Mapping is still weird on the PS3, but not really a problem with remapping in-game.
 
So MvC3 sticks. Game is less than a month out. Should I be saving some of my tax return for some Madcatz product? Kinda want to order a few sticks next week but don't want to short-change myself if something is coming for the big Capcom release?!

EX2 is a waste of money period. No matter the price point. At least with a TE stick you'll have something that will still work for years potentially and that you'll easily be able to resell if you don't like it. I heard of EX2s breaking right outside the box or within a couple weeks tops and it would be tough to try and resell it at it's original price too.

I would check shoryukens trading outlet or neogafs buy/sell/trade thread to find a used TE stick for about $70-90 if you don't feel like waiting for another sale.
 
Man, I'm so close to just ordering a SF4 TE R2 stick but the (apparent?) PCB issues has me somewhat worried, I don't want to have to deal with something like that. Especially since I'll be importing it... just sounds like a big hassle. Guess there's some more thinking to do... so tired of thinking have been obsessing about this the whole weekend :P

My EX2 still works. I've had it for years. It's gonna be the guest stick because I'm not buying two EX-SEs. I either got lucky or the later models had better build quality.
 
Anybody know the going rate for a pretty much mint condition (Virtua Stick High Grade)VSHG? I have one and I may end up selling it soon
 
Gaah, damn it all to hell... I decided against the SF4 TE and ordered a HRAP EX-SE instead.

edit: and now I'm having second thoughts.... I'm such a bitch

According to ebay they seem to fluctuate between $150 and $200.
Not bad for an all-sanwa stick that debuted at what, $72?

Then again, the yen has gotten stronger vs the dollar since then so I suppose there's that to take into consideration.

And I would be totally interested in buying it, but I REALLY cannot justify it at the moment.
 
As mentioned I'm having some seconds thoughts about my HRAP purchase, what are your guys thoughts about which type of stick is preferable? I know that in the end it's down to personal preference but I'd really appreciate any input you might have. Part of the problem is that I haven't been in an arcade in a decade so I have no idea how these sticks actually feel, hell the only stick I've used with some type of frequency is whatever is in the Dreamcast stick. I'm basically a stick virgin people.

Anyway if I gather things correctly the HRAP EX-SE has a Seimitsu LS-32, which I guess is a bit stiffer and has a smaller deadzone than whatever Sanwa stick is in the SF4TE (JLF)? Well, ok but how would you say this translates into real world use, am I going to have to break my arm of using the HRAP or something?

*sigh* Please don't laugh at my obvious distress
 
EX-SE is one of the best sticks for $100. Personal preference...you might prefer a Sanwa joystick, perhaps, but the LS-32 works excellent for both fighters and shooters alike. Was playing a few hours of SSFIV and Espgaluda II this afternoon....never felt the need to switch to a Sanwa.

Tried this out and it works great. I just rewired the buttons to match where they should be on a dual shock and it works great. I almost prefer it to the TE.
