Here's my situation:

SFIV Femme Fatale TE Stick for 360. I bought a Chimp SMD from Lizard Lick to put in it.

I have it open and am currently looking at the USB wires. The fat black USB cable has 5 smaller cables inside of it that are soldered to the 360 PCB. Everything I've found is telling me to pull those out and screw 4 of them into the Chimp SMD terminals. Where does the 5th cable go? Its black and slightly fatter than the other 4.

Also, it looks like I have to run 4 new cables from the Chimp back into the 360 PCB for the USB to work? I had heard that this was a completely solderless way to dual mod, yet here is a step that requires soldering. Did I miss something?

Even though I suck at fighting games and just bought my first TE Round 2 stick the other day...I do enjoy watching those fighting game documentaries. I saw a few good ones that I really enjoyed--anyone have any they can recommend?

If you clip the USB cable right you can get enough slack on each half of the USB cable to screw one end into each side of the Chimp SMD. The fat black is just the shielded ground and can actually be ignored.

you stick your flat head screwdriver in there to hold the shaft still, then twist the ball and it'll unscrew

Check Focusattack.com as well, I ordered a bat top from them and the adapter was included instead of sold separately.

If for some reason you go with the fancy aluminum model - consider getting a heavier spring as well because damn my bat weighs a ton! So it's super twitchy now, until I get a tougher spring. :P
 
I just recently bought my first stick, what would be the first upgrade to it you guys recommend?

I know (forgive me on the terms) the stick and buttons need to be replaced, my buddy said to get the octagon piece for the stick?
 
I'm on the same boat. Just bought my TE SR and I'm wondering what parts I should buy. So far I've bought the octagonal gate. Anything else I should buy?

Your 2 options are Sanwa and Seimitsu, both offer accurate, super durable arcade-grade parts that you can drop in as replacements which are way better than the stock SE buttons.

Sanwa (OBSF-30s and OBSN-30s) are also very "soft" feeling, though not nearly as squishy as the stock MadCatz buttons. They're super sensitive, which some people like, but you can't really rest your hands on the buttons since they'll trigger with little pressure. If you want more resistance, go with Seimitsu buttons - PS-14-K(N)s or PS-14-G(N)s.

You really don't need to mod anything in a TE, since it comes with Sanwa parts stock. Aside from changing the gate due to personal preference, you're basically good to go. Unless you want to modify it for looks too...?

Replace everything the stock parts in that stick are garbage. If you're missing moves or the game seems harder to play than it should be, it's because of the stock parts.

Octagonal gates make it more of a pain in the ass to play charge characters IMO. You don't have nice "locking" corners a square gate offers.

Just replace the stick for now and see how that works for you. If you aren't comfortable, then look into the octagonal gate, which a lot of folks I know chirp about; but only do so because of online chatter and some Japanese arcades. Most every American arcade I played in had nice chunky square gates and that's the feel I'm familiar with after years of play.

Make sure to order a couple extra buttons as well. Two extra should be enough, just in case one of your replacements goes belly up. My Seimitsu mod ended up with a dead button after a few months - not sure what went wrong, but the button ending up sticking down after a press.
 
eh the stick is usable...not the greatest quality but nothing bad. It's long-term reliability is the real problem with it, not the performance.

The real issue with the old SEs are the buttons. They are AWFUL. Plungers too big for the rims, they get stuck inside and feel mushy. Also uneven contact between the plunger and microswitch. Between both of those problems if you press it from the corner it will sometimes feel stiff as hell and not even activate at all. Replace those first for sure if you don't have money to replace both right away.

And agreed with TToB, no sense in getting an octo gate before you even try the stick first. Contrary to popular belief, octo gates actually restrict your movement, not enhance them. Square gates are the standard for a reason.
 
Forgot to mention I finally got off my butt and removed the PS1 board in my old MAS stick last night and slapped in a Cthulhu.

Need to go test it today. On paper everything should be working. :D
 
I bought a PS3 TE a year or so ago when SSF IV came out, but now I'm interested in playing a few Wii games (particularly virtual console/virtual arcade) titles with a stick instead of a normal controller. A Google search turns up a bajillion people wanting to dual-mod a TE for use with the 360 and PS3, but does anybody know what I'd need to do to get it working with a PS and a Wii? I could get the Tatsunuko vs. Capcom Wii stick, but my wife wouldn't go for a second stick and I think my TE has probably spoiled me on high-quality parts anyway.

Cowboom.com which is a best buy refurb site has TvC sticks for 34$ shipped last time i check since i'm about to buy one.

What i want to know is what are the best ways to get the TvC wii stick to work on my ps3 so i can play some Marvel right.
 
Alright, this past week I bought a HRAP EX because I couldn't find a TE at a price I liked. I was then browsing Amazon and saw the BlazBlue TE and then bought it. When I got the BB TE I noticed that it used the same button layout as Hori and not the usual Mad Catz layout. Is there a reason for this? Its no big deal but I was just wondering why.

bb te has the same layout as every other te.

No it doesn't, it has the Hori button layout. I'm not talking about the physical position of the buttons, but how they are arranged. They follow the SSF4 Type-C/MvC3 type-Y arrangement and not the usual type-B. I was just wondering why this was done.

To install, unscrew the HRAP's bottom metal plate. This will grant you access to the underside of the JLF. All you need to do is hold the stick lever in place from the bottom using a flathead screwdriver and the ball-top will screw off if you twist it.

Thank you both much gentlemen; before I go through with this, what is the material on that bat-top like? One of the reasons I want to get rid of the ball-top is it's just too slippery, and I make a lot of errors as a result. This looks to be a more rubbery material, but I am hoping someone who has used it could give me a bit of feedback about the grip.

just received my MC Combat panel. For anyone wanting to pre-mount your extra stick and buttons to make swapping easier, don't forget to pick up extra screws to mount your spare joystick. I mounted my Seimitsu LS-32 using only 2 screws and left the JLF on the regular TE panel with just 2 screws opposite each other diagonally. I need to make a trip to Home Depot and find suitable screws.

Yeah you'll need the adapter. The LB-50 bat top is designed for Sanwa JLW stick, which has a thicker shaft than the JLF that's in Madcatz and Hori sticks. The adapter allows the LB-50 to fit the JLF.
 
Cool, thanks. I was going to use a 10 foot extender I saw on amazon. 5 meters is about 15 feet, so I should be okay, huh? I realized I have a small hole in the floor behind my couch. I was thinking I'd run it down there and up the co-ax hole near the ps3 so I could have the stick hooked up more often without a junky cord across the floor.

I use that for my stick and my Tron 360 controller. Haven't had any issues at all.

I haven't done this mod myself, but the MultiConsole Cthulhu is PS3 and Gamecube compatible. So I think it should work with any Wii game that supports GC controllers.

It seems like a complicated mod though. You would need to add an RJ45 jack, make seperate USB/GC cables, and solder stuff:

Goddamn, mvc3 combos are way way easier to do on the TE than on the SF4 pad. And now that I've gone to bat top and octagonal gate I can actually input directions properly. I guess I should learn some characters now!

You could get a Wii stick like the TvC, then use the Mayflash adapter to use it on PC/PS3. PS3 will require some remapping.

...but I see you already have a stick and are trying to avoid getting a second. You should know that the TvC stick (as with SF4 SE sticks) is much smaller than a TE, so it doesn't take up nearly the same space. Really, though, because the TvC sticks are so easy to find and inexpensive, this is your best option. The wife either will understand, or needs to relax a bit. It's not like it costs $150 and takes up a whole room, or anything.

MC Cthulhu is the way to go. If you don't want to wait for LizardLick to restock (I don't think it'll take too long), just get one from Toodles directly at SRK Tech Talk forum.

Slightly off topic but I was staring at your avatar for like a minute as I listened to the "Reptile" song from the MK theme song thread and it almost syncs up perfectly...mesmerizing!

On a side note...and on topic!

If I wand a cheap no nonsense arcade stick for use with MAME...options? I have an old X-Arcade which I love, but it has always been buggy with its keyboard rebinding approach.

Or at least seems to be.

Looking for cheap? The Wii TvC stick / Mayflash adapter combo (I just linked to it) is probably one of your least expensive decent options right now, and it works very well. Many of us feel that it has the best stock (non-arcade-grade) parts available. If the SFIV SE stick was more available right now I'd have recommended that, but it's not.

You could also try one of the cheap Hori sticks (Fighting Stick EX2, Fighting Stick 3) but those aren't nearly as easily moddable if you want to swap/replace parts later. Hori buttons will eventually break if you use them for long enough, and then you're screwed. If you only plan to use it occasionally, you should be okay though.

Unless you use it for something specific that's not supported, I'd just swap the PCB out for a Cthulhu or MC Cthulhu.

Why not just replace the circuit board in your X-Arcade with something modern?

Probably the simplest and easiest option, especially if you enjoy the stick you already own.

Lizardlick is sold out and I can't find it on Focusattack.com; but it would be worth the wait.

I have a custom arcade stick that works (sort of) on PC and PS3 but since I'm having many problems with it I decided to go for a Madcatz TE S Series. Now what's the best place to buy for those who don't live in the US? I tried to buy from the official madcatz store but they only sell them in the US, any help will be appreciated thanks.
 
Im being so picky, its draining my wallet :/ (well not really as they only cost like $1 each)

I slightly changed the art so that it printed better, and printed my old art for the hell of it. Cut out both for my stick, decided to use my old art again.

It's finally looking pretty fly again, and I have another one if (when?) the lamination on this one starts to fail. :)
 
Just finished up this one the other day. Art was completely recolored and changed by a friend of mine. Full TE plexi glass from Tek Innovations. Hadoken dust cover, and dual etchings for buttons.

The FS VX I've had for a while, but went and bought the RAP VX-SA today. The button on both are the same, OBSF-30s, but the RAP's response feels so much better than the buttons I installed on the VX.

The game is just for scale.
 
Hey guys I just received the plexi glass for my sf4 te stick. I planning on changing the art but I don't have a printer and wanted to know the way to print / what paper / what to do now :)

I'm really interested in getting it, but with plans to go to EVO this year I'm thinking to myself it's a really stupid idea to drop $167 on another stick when I already have 2 that work perfectly fine. I can't help it though, that thing looks sexy. Maybe not now or before EVO, but I definitely plan on getting this thing sometime this year.
 
I've found myself playing more and more PC fighting games lately, and have started thinking about investing in a stick pretty soon. However, I'm kinda short on money and can't afford more expensive ones, and on top of that I don't want to get an expensive stick since I don't know how much I'll like it. The thing is, I'm also kind of picky with the buttons... I'd love a clicky feeling in both the buttons and joystick, are there any buttons like that? I'm not afraid of modifying stuff, and I'd love to build one myself, but that seems to be a bit expensive...
 
Hey Everyone. I tried doing a search for this but failed and I thought this thread would be the have the people to ask. I'm trying to compile a list of non-Fighting Ps3 games that fight sticks work well for. I like fighting games but sometimes I just want to run around arcade style shooting shit. Currently I've been using my sticks to play:

Sega Genesis Collection
Turtles in Time ReShelled
Gundemonium Recollection
Tetris
Lumines
Söldner-X
R-Types
A bunch of ps/2 ShmUps

Thats basically what Ive been playing. I wish Sony required demos and at least videos for all their games. This would be a lot easier. Any advice on games or links to lists would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
