My Hori itch needs scratching but I'm not sure to go for it. Hopefully they pull it down before I decide to order.

Nice piece of Hardware, for sure!

That would be nice. It's funny to, the Canadian doller is doing well right now too so it's even cheaper for me to order one...

God why did I click that link?!

EDIT: who's got a spare $10 off coupon?!

I know this isn't necessarily a controller thread but have you guys tried the Saturn controller or the uhh neogeo controller they released not too long ago?

how well do they work for fighting games?

Yep, I missed it live but that sounds like a huge blow up.
During the ward ceremony, the announcer mentioned that top 8 would win PDP sticks and was like "WE KNOW YOU GUYS LOVE THEM" to the biggest awkward silence ever.

Yeah, I mean, the build is really nice and the design is cool (though I hate that you need to have the plastic on for the hinge to work).

But man, those buttons... they're just awful. The stick is also a HUGE hindrance; mine couldn't even jump diagonally. Like, at all. And I know I wasn't the only one.

Good thing it only costs about $20 in iL parts to make it awesome.

I'm a stick man, but I own both. The Saturn pad is alright and the Neo pad is absolutely amazing.
I wish the Saturn pad didn't have the different sized face buttons. The idea to make half of them concave and half of them convex is equally perplexing.

Just be aware that apparently, the Neo Geo Pad 2 USBs are very scarce nowadays. It might be hard to find one.

almost finished one for a customer. I don't think anyone paint the gate and other matching parts such as the jlf harness. . . All I know is that pcb painting and gate painting color scheming was done by me for ages before anyone else on this and other sticks before.

If I see ppl imitating/copying going for the same idea on sites like SRK etc. from now on that's how I know. Not many times you can boast about being first when it comes to stick modding after all. heh.

What PCB and joystick is that? looks solderless.

Getting my Tatsunoko vs. Capcom stick in the mail tomorrow. I have TvC and Street Fighter IV (PC) at the ready, and I am very excited to play fighting games with proper equipment.

guys im sad to say but my fucking dog bit through my TE stick.. is there anything i can at this point besides burying him in my back yard? :[

I'm looking to pick up a Sanwa stick for my Madcatz SE. Is the JLF-TP-8YT-SK the correct one to grab?

Is that this stick,

? I am looking for a replacement stick for this stick (but mine is a ps3 version).

My first Arcade Stick <3 I'm getting my ass kicked in ranked SSFIV but I'm having a lot of fun. I just need to get Marvel now. Paid 109 @ Gamestop. The manager of my local Gamestop had another Gamestop deliver my stick. It was opened of course and there was some gunk on the top of the stick. Also the little bracket that comes with the headphone adapter is cracked. Next time I go I'm gonna give him some shit. Other than that it's fucking amazing. I'm so glad I finally got one. Gonna put my own Cammy art on it soon :)

Yay I love the TvC stick. What kind of tray is that?
Just a cheap one from Target. The top is pleather-coated fiberboard, and the bottom is a soft-ish bean bag. Works really well for laptops, arcade sticks, books, etc.

Lizard Lick is awesome. My new stick should be here tomorrow.

Yup. Same exact stick. I already replaced the buttons, and now it's time to replace the stick.

What does the D-Pad switch on the TvC stick do? Can it handle left analog inputs? If so, that'd be amazing for all Wii stuffs.
It can. Left analog control lets you navigate the wii menu with the stick lever too.

PCB is the PS360 one that comes with Datel Arcade Pro sticks so it's not solderless, unless you mean the JLF harness which was custom made and painted too.

Stick is a standard JLF-TP-8YT with the gate painted:

Middle bit that touches the stick actuator can be removed / comes off. So no need to worry of any abrasive action on the paint. As I said before no ones painted the gate before, or the harness/pcb's/sockets in a complete colour scheme (surprising) but I expect alot of ppl to start copying now, since it's so simple with plasti-dip and vinyl dye.

You having any problems getting accustomed to using a stick? I have the same stick (PS3 version) and it's my first and I'm having troubles getting used to it.

Every time I wanna play MK and practice with it, I get frustrated in minutes and just go back to the pad :( I wanna get used to it but apparently the only way is more and more practice?

Dashing is just so hard :(

Also, for the joystick, should I have the switch on DPAD or left analog stick? I've been using the DPAD setting

TB,

That's the way JLF is. Stock condition -- large throw, very loose feel, hard to do dashes with... There are ways to mod the JLF but I've never felt any of these mods were within a zone of reason that would compel me to keep a JLF as a primary joystick controller. I eventually made the decision to switch to the Seimitsu line for my joystick needs.

... and Mortal Kombat has been notoriously difficult for as long as I can remember to do the Fatalities on, period. If your spacing and timing isn't EXACTLY right, the moves won't execute. I was able to do the majority of the Fatalities on an SNES pad back in the day after some practice but I can see with the latest games the old "try fifteen times at least" tradition is back. And no, I think the problems with MK go more to the heart of the game's programming and less to do with arcade gear in all honesty.

SF and most other fighting games are far more forgiving with inputs. It's hard to beat Capcom and SNK in those respects. Their game control laws have evolved to be the best among fighting games developers. Sega has decent controls on its fighters, too. That's an aspect of MK I've never cared for besides the fact that I've felt since the first game in the series that it was shallow and lacked depth. If you don't get used to the JLF in that TE case within the next two months -- assuming you put in the time to practice and play with it, you might want to consider a replacement joystick with a higher tension spring and reduced throw. A Seimitsu joystick -- the LS-32-01 or better yet LS-56-01 might be your best choices. If loosesness and dashing moves are your problems, you really don't want to use a joystick that's as loose or looser-feeling than the JLF; definitely nothing with less tension than an LS-32-01. The LS-56-01 has the tightest tension of the 5-wire harness Japanese joysticks out of the box.

Getting anything like an American-style joystick to work in a TE or Hori case is generally not worth the effort. Some plastic cutting, metal drilling, other work that will irrevocably alter the joystick case. Some people do it but you might as have well bought a PDP Mortal Kombat stick or MAS stick for that matter.

If you want extra tension in a JLF a double spring mod is super easy and cheap as well (23 cents for a spring at Lowe's, takes 5 minutes to put in). Very easy way to add extra tension to a stick and add more precise control.

It's at least something to try out before replacing the whole joystick. No matter what you do, you'll need practice with the stick before you're an expert with it. It takes time, but imo it is very worth it. An octo gate ($5-$8)may be a good way to get started as well. It's sorta like "training wheels" for a newbie stick user in my experience.

grendelrt said:
Sweet ordered =) Is it better to keep it 4 way or 8 way? Not sure what arcades usually use haha
8-way (standard). Rotating the gate 45 degrees to 4-way mode eliminates diagonals, which works great for games like Pac-Man and Tetris, but makes most games impossible to play.

How much time will it take me, a newbie to arcade sticks, to adjust to a square gate like the one in my TvC stick? I'm having a bit of a tough time with my QCFs, usually in the form of lifting it up too high and hitting up+forward. The true left and right are kind of hard to tell apart from the upper ranges each diagonal.

I'm looking for a part that makes a push button light up when it's pressed. It's sold on lizardlick, but I have no idea what it's called. Can anybody help?

The octogate and an extra spring will NOT fix the throw and dash move problems the JLF has... Trust me, I learned this over two years!

The JLF isn't a bad joystick for Street Fighter IV and most poly fighters but it leaves a lot to be desired where retro fighters and a few newer 2-D fighters are concerned.

Mortal Kombat has problems with the control laws that I don't think any joystick is going to fix... It's a software issue.
I noticed that was still true for MK vs DC as it was for the last two MK games I played way back when.

Just one player's opinion... Your mileage may vary.

Lots of players like the JLF but it's not any closer to perfect than anything else is. Some of us get used to its quirks and love it on the newer fighters; a lot of us don't like it when we revisit the CPS and SNK Neo Geo Fighters, too. I happen to believe the Seimitsu joysticks are more versatile and play more evenly with more fighters. You don't have to retrain or "swap" one group of muscles to play with an LS-series joystick (unless it's the LS-33 -- that's practically a JLF clone by the sounds of it). I've also played most of the popular fighting games since 1992 as well.

I bought my first arcade stick a couple weeks ago and got a little annoyed with the stock parts. Also my first experience modding electronics in several years so my soldering skills are a little rusty, not to mention my painting skills... but got a new Seimitsu LS-55-01 spliced into the harness and got the old PCB desoldered. Waiting on a new balltop, some more clear PS-14-KNs, and some quick disconnect stuff from Seimitsu's store, then gonna finish up the painting and slap this thing back together.

It's a Hori Fighting Stick V3 for PS3/PC. In progress shot...

Been a really fun project so far, this thread's been some great inspiration. Ready for some 3rd Strike!

You're looking for these, but there's more to it than just wiring up the buttons, unfortunately. The item's description has a link to a Shoryuken thread on how to get it all set up. Some guy on SRK also sells his own LED boards that work in a similar fashion.

Very nice! Love those bubble tops, they are so good looking. Is that a Chun stick?

Yup! It is. 0192, apparently. What's nice is that the art came off pretty easily if I ever wanted to use it again. Really like the plexi texture better than the lenticular art texture though.

Absolutely gorgeous! Loving all the transparent parts and the art.

I know the colored buttons are gonna be a little hit or miss for some people, but I've really liked playing classic PSX games with it and need the hint once in a while when I'm trying something new.

Yeah I ended up ordering my plexi (which needs to get here already!) with the Xbox and PS3 buttons etched on it because I know I'll forget them before long.

Definitely a cooler, more subtle method of labeling than marking up the buttons or the underlying art.

Wasn't totally sure how to handle R1 and L1 since they're sort of "reversed" but trial and error I guess. They're second nature in SFIV and MK9, so hopefully everything else will come pretty easy.

Hmm any reviews on the Qanba Q4 3in1 stick?

Cbf modding my PS3 or 360 stick so I've been looking at this one. xD
Just can't seem to find any good info on it.

Hmm anybody know an easy way to fix a Tekken 6 fighting stick for PS3? A friend fell on it after some drinks and like 2-3 of the buttons only register about 1/5 of the time. It has tri wing screws on the bottom, but I dont have a triwing screw, Should I replace the buttons with another companies?
