Yeah I get that. I was aiming at user created templates. Off to SRK then.

I have two HRAP 3s for PC/Playstation 3. How difficult is it to install one of those boards that makes it compatible across PC/Playstation3/Xbox 360? Any drawbacks?

Hmm. This seems easy enough. Are there any sites that collect premade templates? Also I'm assuming they ship worldwide? Just got my TE Round 2 this week but I'd have vastly prefered to get a Chun-Li or Marvel stick as I don't really like the art on the normal TEs. Alas no place that had Chun-Li or Marvel sticks would ship them to me.

The ball top is sopposed to spin around. Unless you means it's loose in which case it will unscrew off.
No, it's not loose, it just spins and I hate it.

That won't fix anything. The JLF shaft itself is designed to rotate like that. It's not just the ball top like that poster thinks, but the entire shaft.
Ffffuck...

Actually the bat top doesnt really spin and allivieates that issue. (I went back to ball top a couple days ago though its just better)

How do you hold the stick. With your whole hand? Just hold it like the Japanese hold it. Check utube or something heh.
I don't know how I hold it but I idle my hand on the stick and while I'm playing I don't notice the ball spinning and my hand changing where it's sitting as a result and I'm constantly hitting a different direction than I intended. I hate it. It made me stop using the stick and playing altogether.

Herm.

So I'm hitting a little bit of a snag here, in my training.

I'm generally a Ryu player, btw.

Okay, here's the deal. I have the stock Sanwa stick in my TE still, and it's... fine, I guess, but there's something iffy about it.

I'm using an Octo-gate and I love the way it feels for fireball motions and I can pull off Ultras mid-combo with Ryu no problem. Really like the way that feels, though the stick seems a little loose (even with a tighter Seimitsu spring in there).

However, I don't feel like I'm hitting my Shoryukens every time. I've practiced quite a bit and I feel like I'm just a little off more often than I'd like. When I swap in the Square-gate I hit them fine, but my Ultras go right out the window and generally speaking I just don't like the way the stick feels.

I'm strongly considering getting a Seimitsu LS-56-01 with an Octo-Gate, and seeing how that feels. I hear it's tighter and some people adore it. It's only $22 so I won't lose much and can transport the old stick into my buddy's MadCats SE... thoughts?

Hmm, that's a shame to hear. It's the same problem my brother has with the TE sticks adn i was thinking of getting a bat-top to mod in. Ah, well.

It's something that actually used to bother me too in the beginning, but I don't even notice it anymore.

I've always liked the spin of the stick. Really factors in to the comfort of a good one vs a cheap one that doesn't spin... I don't feel like I'd be able to play on one that didn't well at all.

What is the GAF opinion on wireless sticks?

I love my sticks, but I hate cables - they definitely take away from my willingness to play games with sticks. (I own a VFHG and RAP3, for the record)

I wish wireless sticks were more of a common thing this gen. I'm toying around with modding a sixaxis into a Dreamcast stick base, but I'm aware this might be a bit of a pain.

Also, are there any adapters that let me use my PS3 sticks on my 360?

Pad hacks of official controllers result in the least amount of lag. I remember a lag test on SDTekken that claimed Sixaxis was imperceptible.
Toodles makes an adapter compatible with Sixaxis and early versions of DualShock 3 called AXISADAPTER that simplifies the padhack into an easy solderless experience. I did that with one of my sticks in the event I don't ever want to deal with wires at home.
Also, be aware wireless sticks are often not allowed in tournaments or competitive environments.

I just bought an SE stick after finding that the local gamestop luckily still had one still in stock for 40 bucks. I figured I would eventually replace it with Sanwa/Seimitsu parts, and I am considering that even more after a big issue I've been having.

My stick fails to register a down-forward input at times. I can have the stick all the way down into the corner of the square with the inputs on in training and all that will show up are down or forward. This makes doing QCF/super/ultra motions impossible from that side at times. I find that if I wiggle the stick around randomly it will "right itself" eventually.

Is this issue likely with the crappy stock parts or a bigger problem? Thanks

Ordered a chun li madcatz TE stick, its a pretty good/standard te right?
Easily the sexiest of the TE sticks.

I Googled what that was and I think this might be more my problem than the ball-top spinning actually. I need to look into putting one of those in and seeing how the stick feels. I went to an offline gathering earlier today and my hand kept sliding from 4 to 7 so I was constantly getting hit because I wasn't blocking. SF and MVC need block buttons. =P

Love the blue plastic of the Chun TE. Mine is a modded one.

It's definitely not the problem with your ball top spinning. The gate only determines how easy it is to hit certain directions... a square strongly favors diagonals, and an octo (in theory) gives all directions the same preference. The spinning ball spins because it is essentially made to; it isn't straining when you adjust your hand. A fixed stick would strain against whatever was fixing it in place in most situations and break easier.

I just picked up an LS-56-01, and I'm installing it now! Love the feel and clickiness so far, let's see what it's like inside my TE!

I love blocks buttons in MK9 and SC, but... SF and MVC don't need em!

Well... heck!

Problem solved! The LS-56-01 was exactly what I was looking for. All directions feel equal now and I'm pulling off Hadokens and Shoryukens without issue.

Strongly recommended!

EDIT:

And since I don't want to have three posts in a row, I should also mention in this post:

I saw the Qanba 3 in 1 today at Video Games New York. Really, really nice looking in person and very much the equal of a TE in at least all visible quality. They also had a plexi swap out panel with Cammy and Seimitsu clear buttons too for it too... super cool!

No, no, no. You misunderstand. An octo-plate may solve my issue of hitting wrong directions. I thought it was the ball-top spinning that was causing this but the rectangular thing may actually be the culprit.

That's what I'm doing as well. I got a SF4 TE Round 2 stick last month, and don't like the feel of the joystick. Already got the LS-56-01 and bat top that I ordered. Now all I'm waiting on is a spring and the octo gate to arrive. Then I'll start the surgery. Hopefully everything works out ok.

Oh! I see what you're saying now. Yeah, I don't like how the square slides you to the diagonal points even if you don't want them. An Octo really does help you nail individual directions.

Looking to get a different restrictor plate for my TE. Not a fan of charge characters, so would a round or octagonal restrictor plate be recommended?

Thanks for that. Took me a while but I went through all 390 pages. Found out I'm actually extremely picky when there's a huge catalog to choose from. There's a lot of amazing art in there but the Street Fighter franchise doesn't appeal to me enough to pick SF art, which sadly disqualifies 65% of the art in there. In particular I was looking for good Marvel vs Capcom themed groupshots, Black Suit Spider-Man, Tekkaman/Teknoman Blade or Ky Kiske templates. Will probably look through them again sometime or keep an eye on the new thread they've started since.

Art does amazing work for anybody that's wants plexi. His plexi glass is great, and so are his prints. I got some of that novus plastic cleaner for the plexi too and it works great. I've got like 3 more sticks I want artwork on now.

Looking good!

Mostly a Hori fan but I'm looking forward to these. I know Capcom is MC's bread and butter but really hoping for a generic line.

I like the incline, kind of like a Vewlix, but I don't understand why so much space on the left (and why eight buttons, but I guess that's a lost battle by now).

The design is pretty ugly too. Too sober without being elegant and with an awful artwork.

Looks cheap, and if the actual materials used are as shitty and cheap as the TE's, count me out.

Wow really? I've raged a couple of times and literally punched my stick full force, thing is built like a rock.

My rage days are over, that was during the initial stick learning phase.

Since when are TEs shitty and cheap?
*The TE makes use of cheap and thin gauge bottom securing screws that strip easily, even with the proper size screw-driver.
*Madcatz plastic shell is thinner and more prone to scratches than any stick I've owned. i've more than 20
*Plexi Top; although easy to remove and change art, is prone to scratches and swirls marks.
*Non plated or stainless screw for top panel that are prone to rusting.
*PCB not as PC compatible as Hori PCBs and have a higher failure rate.

I know it's knit-picking, but that's part of my job irl.

Although, there's a supposed multiple input problem, the Sega VSHG is probably my fave.

If you are that kind of user, you might as well buy or build your own stick. I have an SE (with a swapped stick) and a TE and so far they have been awesome sticks. I just got the TE though so I cant comment on some of those things.

Sorry bud, had no intention to flame you for what you said. Its just the first time I've ever heard someone call the TE a shitty stick.

Fair enough points but I'd wager it would be pretty darn difficult for the common consumer to pick up a better current gen retail stick than the RAPSA or the MC TE.

Not necessarily. The TE solid, just hyped like a mofo. I prefer others, so I use them.

Maybe "shitty" was too strong of a word...

Not to throw wood to the fire per say, but I've heard more discerning users who have experience said the same thing. I have heard Henry Cen say a few things. I have heard one of the guys on the 8-Way Run stream get into a diatribe about it.

The TE and SE are awesome for what they are. Just Like a Lexus or Acura is awesome for what it is, but it doesn't make them the best or top cars. They are just of a more higher quality than say a Hyundai, Kia, regular Honda, etc.

I applaud Markman for bringing high-quality sticks to the masses. Before Madcatz, the only game in town was Hori.

It would be awesome if we could get another vendor/manufacturer in the mix (like when Ascii/Agetec, Sega, etc were around).

I also think the new stick looks hot. I kind of got tired of the TE design. And I'll probably pick up one of the SXT when it drops and have it dual modded.

Although kinda dated to some, the Real Arcade Pro EX-SE or Real Arcade Pro 3 SA were the pinnacle Hori sticks before the VLX, so I would go with one of them. I daily (or at least whenever I game on 360) an EX-SE. Not too certain about the new RAP sticks, but they are seriously sexy

I played on this new TE stick design today at E3. I didn't really like it. It felt cheap to me. Maybe it was one mold, so it might be sturdy, but I don't know. Buttons are still too close to the stick.

Just my opinion of course. I know people didn't want just another TE rehash, but I don't really like this one. It looks like a cross between a hori and qanba stick.

I would really want a flip top like design, and for the buttons to be farther away from the stick. Seems like a pain to mod the art now too. Will play more on it later in the week.

I hate that new stick layout, for someone like me with big hands and long fingers I can see my fingers getting in the way of the buttons, cant they move the stick over some? I mean there is so much room on the left side.

Here are some fugly cell phone pictures of my TvC stick, post-modding.

  • I wound up getting a cheapo Mad Catz controller that turned out to be one of the 08/09 common ground models, so this was a pretty manageable mod thanks to my friend's adept soldering skills.
  • I dropped down to a 6-button scheme when I realized that making the triggers work would require wiring up a hex inverter, since my sacrificial controller has them active high. I covered up the button holes with a small cardboard panel.
  • I dummied out the Home/Turbo panel, and I'm planning on replacing it with a neat plexiglas nameplate at some point.
  • I wound up installing my own guide button with one of the removed buttons from the front of the controller, just to make sure that would work properly.
  • I was able to trim down the boot of the original cable to make that fit. Thank you, Citadel hobby knife!
After a little fidding around with quick disconnects and entombing all the actual solder work in hot glue, the mod worked perfectly. My roommate owes me $50, so I'm planning on turning that into a copy of MvC3 and going to town. Looking forward to playing online with my fellow GAFers!

I would "blame" this on the semi-authentic arcade layouts Mad Catz uses. That's generally how far sticks are located from the buttons on most panels.

Might I suggest getting 2 Sanwa 30mm buttonhole plugs from somewhere like Lizardlick? It won't looks as clean with the colors but it's less trouble than the cardboard you used eventually getting warped or pushed in.

Yeah, I just haven't gotten around to putting an order in yet. I'm actually planning on replacing the art with Vewlix panel design at some point so those will fit in rather nicely.
