NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread

So double JLF springs on my new stick has made it a bit too tight for me, but the single spring is far too loose. I've heard that Semitsu springs are a good alternative, but there are four of them on Lizard Lick (LS-32, LS-33, LS-55, LS-56). Anyone know which spring puts the stick kinda between the looseness of a single spring and the over-tightness of double JLF springs?

Posted this question in the SSFIV thread, figured I'd ask here.

What's the best stick I can get for someone on a budget? I had a stick, but sold it (stupid move) a few months back. I'll eventually upgrade to one of the tournament edition sticks, but I want something to hold me over until I start my summer job and actually have some kind of income. Am I better off getting a fightpad, or are they not worth it? I plan on dabbling in SSFIV and MvC3. Thanks!

TvC or WWE sticks ($60-80) are good cheap sticks that will last til you are able to upgrade. IMO fightpads aren't that hot, especially if you are used to a stick.

yep. What about the Tekken 6 360 stick? I can get that with the game for $60 on Amazon.

I hear a lot of gripes about the quality. It's also not very easy to mod with better parts.

moving away from the old SF4 molds, nice.

I've gotten to play some SF x T on this stick, and it's really nice. I want one.

If it's the wireless stick, I've not heard great things about it but I've never tried it myself.

It's the wireless one, yes. Is it not worth bothering? This will merely be something of a "hold me over" stick.

If it's not one to keep forever and you want a copy of T6 I'd say go for it. It's a good deal. The only drawback I can think of is that some tournaments aren't allowing wireless stuff, so keep that in mind if you plan to play in any before you get a good stick. Never mind. It uses a dongle, so it's okay.

Yep. I'll probably pick up a new stick at the end of August. Thanks for all the input!

Got a 360 T6 it sucked but was awesome bacause of the wireless commond ground 360 pcb in it. did a full seimitsu, PS3/360 wireless mod and it's really great now; was it worth it ? gamewise ? yes. price and time-consiming wise ? no, not at all.

Any stick deals going on at Madcatz.com? My cousin is interested in buying a fight stick. Thanks!
Wait until this weekend when CEO/ReveLAtions is going on for the best % discount deal. A coupon code will inevitably pop up.

Any news on a AE TE stick? Figured madcatz would try to cash in on the hype.
I thought MarkMan said we would see them by the time Evolution Worlds comes around. I'm guessing it'll be based on the new TE "S" chassis, unless that's actually how they're going to be debuting the new shell we saw on that SFxT stick.

Thanks guys!

I have another question, I asked a while back but didn't get an answer. How do I go about actually printing my art and then putting it into my TE stick? Is the size already set in the .psd file? What type of paper do I print it on? If there's a guide you guys can point me to, that would be great. Thanks a lot.

If you want to print an adhesive sheet that you carefully stick onto the panel, you should go to Kinko's and get it on Lami-Label. Alternatively, you could just add a plexiglas top panel from Art's Hobbies and print it on regular (high quality) paper, cut out the areas that need to be removed, then simply lay that under the plexi top panel.

Art will also laser cut the button holes for you if you order the art from him too

That sounds like a good idea. I think I'll order from Art's Hobbies if the price is reasonable. I don't even think I have a Kinko's in my area either.

Thanks a lot guys!

So any ideas on when the new TEs are coming out? Probably when SFxTk comes out, right?

My guess is 2012 to coincide with the game, the ones on the showfloor were labeled prototypes. They were pretty awesome tho, I thought I was done buying sticks until I tried it out.

Yeah. Hopefully they release a little earlier than the game. They look to improve upon my only issue with the TE Ss, which was the rough edges. I have a TE S that I've barely touched because the edges bother me. I'm tempted to sell it to put towards one of these, but it's probably gonna be a while.

Wow, really? Fucking PS360+ is now delayed AGAIN. This time til July-September. I wanted to get this thing in time for EVO, which is why I ordered it in March.

Bah. So stupid. Terrible communication on this from both FocusAttack and Akishop as well. Won't be purchasing from either store again after this.

MadCatz never got back to me about my dead SE stick.

Anywhere I can score a cheap PCB before I chuck the bastard in the bin?

you could try to replace it with a totally different pcb, like off a madcatz pad or a sixaxis if you're on ps3

PM MarkMan with your issue and see if he can put you in contact with customer service

Hmmmm I'm standing in front of a bunch of TvC sticks at Microcenter for $30 each... should I grab one?
Yes. They're excellent sicks.

I've happily used mine with Data East Arcade Classics, Metal Slug (VC), Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus, and of course, Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

Also relatively easy to mod for another system, if you have a sacrificial PCB handy and want a fighting stick on the cheap. I can post some pictures of how I converted mine to a 360 stick, if anyone wants to see. The whole process was pretty painless thanks to the common ground Mad Catz pad I used.

I would be interested in this. I'm strongly considering getting in on the b1g1 and making them into 360 sticks. The stock parts are supposed to be better than the original SE sticks correct?

That is correct. They feel just like Sanwa

Is the joystick the crappy one that they put into the SE editions? i may just buy one if so since i need to replace that joystick and its pretty much 30bucks with shipping.

No, it feels similar to a worn-in Sanwa JLF.

Alright, bought!

I've known that the TvC stick is well loved for a few reasons (great stock parts, matte finish on the art), but honestly I already have more joysticks than I have use for. ^^; But eh, $30 to add to the collection, possibly as a nice case/set of spare parts for modding if I get the itch later on... why not.

As _dementia mentioned, stick feels like a sliiightly mushier JLF, and the buttons are very close clones. I also like that it comes with the arrow dustwasher. :)

Thanks for the offer. Though I'm pretty familiar with stick guts and modding already, I'm sure the info will come in useful. Especially since others are also looking to pick up a joystick on the cheap.

Did you happen to come across any documentation about the PCBs in the TvC stick in your research for your mod? I kinda want to avoid having to soldering wires to points on the turbo panel again like I did with my SE mod...

EDIT: Ah, just saw your mod up thread and that you're planning to remove the turbo panel and added in your own button for home. I guess there's no avoiding soldering when I finally get around to modding this thing if I want to use those buttons...

So if I get a TvC stick and a madcatz fightpad for the pcb are there any other parts I'm going to need to make it solely a 360 stick?

With the exception of the guide/home button, yeah. It should be no trouble at all since it's all digital and the pads are rather large.
As far as my mod goes, it was a bit of a hackjob.

Using this template, mt friend helped me solder this monstrosity.

All I really did was cut and strip the ribbon cables coming out of the joystick and the board that the buttons plug into, and solder signal to signal. My home button, joystick, and face buttons each have their own ground, all of which are on the d-pad because of its convenient size. Again, since the controller is common ground, it didn't matter where I put those.
I have the pinout for the buttons written down if you'd like it.

Thank you.

The pinout would be appreciated. The pictures help me in visualizing what I'm in for. I know it's going to frustrate me but I'll just stick with it till it works perfectly.

It's not terribly frustrating, just fine, finicky work. The actual soldering didn't take that long.
Here's the pinout for the ribbon cables. There are many like it, but this one is ugly, MSPaint-y, and mine.

Note that the letters refer to the Wii buttons. You'll want to do this to copy the standard Mad Catz layout.
Code:
X Y LT LB = Y X L ZL
A B RT RB B A R ZR
What's nice is that you can just switch around the quick disconnects if you make a mistake.

Is a seimitsu ls-40 shaft cover gonna fit on a ls-32 stick? I forgot to order one and now the damn ball top keeps unscrewing. And I dont see any ls-32 shaft covers for sale only 40s

Hi,

My cousin just bought the Qanba Q4 stick. When playing online he's getting serious echoing. I'm sure those who have this stick know what I'm talking about. When people are trying to talk to him it echoes back to the other people. It's really annoying for anyone playing with him (like myself lol) I was wondering if anyone had any solutions or know of any tricks about that. He also uses a Turtle Beach X1 headset.

Thanks a lot!

Well I went to microcenter to buy the TvC stick but they were out. However they had the TE stick on sale for 95.99$ it was too good to pass up!

Check the Qanba thread on SRK, there is someone from Qanba helping people there with that problem.
