Hey guys, about to buy my third stick and I need some advice. Is $60 for a used Madcatz SE (360) a good price? I plan on replacing the parts anyways with the stuff that comes in a TE.

Yes Boss!, the HSS-0136 came in two flavors. The original had a LS-56 stock, but the revised one used a knockoff lever. Both have the same non-arcade spec buttons.

Best stick ever. :3

Anyone get their hands on the new LS-58? I'm debating whether to go for a 56 or try the new model out. I hear it has a softer spring? "Boo" if that's the case.

@crimzonflame: Do it. SE's are great, especially if you're going to replace the components.

Gonna have to agree with Qanba Q4 being the retail stick of the year. Good quality stick with good parts, dual modded, and fantastic price. Can't be beat!

Glad to see people like my custom as well! :)

ASOTY for me is the eightarc Fusion line. You get the excellent out of the box features of the Qanba Q4, dual-modded and felt bottom, without the tackiness of the art and handle. Plus, the Fusion-Ivory is absolutely gorgeous!

ASOTY nominations from myself (if you don't know by now, I am unbiased):

ASOTY - Dual Modded
QanBa Q4RAF

ASOTY - PS3
Hori Real Arcade PRO V3-SE

ASOTY - Xbox 360
None

*criteria = must have released this year.

Also, my honest opinion. You can't compare dual-modded sticks to non. Companies that play by the rules will always lose to awesome features (dual modded being one example).

It's okay. More sticks for me to buy <3

I want this SOOOO BAD. But they're still out :/

:(:(:(

My ASOTY is the Namco Tekken Hybrid TEs. I never thought I'd buy another stick after getting a VLX, but it was just too nice to pass up.

Now I have 3 generations of Tekken sticks: the amazing yellow/grey PS1 stick, the Tekken 5 HRAP for PS2, and now the Hybrid stick for PS3. I need to take a picture of everything together and then leave some at work so I don't have stuff just sitting around.

BTW. It's not Hori's fault the Radiant Silvergun stick didn't see the light of day. They had preorders open and it didn't get enough traction so it was cancelled.

I know I said that the art was ugly, but DAAAAAM white looks awesome as opposed to the black one.

How are Qanba/Eightarc able to release dual-modded sticks when Madcatz can't? Also, are there any full Sanwa sticks on the market that are about the size of the Madcatz SE stick? I prefer that size to the original TE sticks.

They're not officially licensed.

Exar released a small full Sanwa stick earlier this year. Yes Boss! has one.

If you're willing to pop out the old buttons and pop in some new ones, you could always put Sanwa parts in a Madcatz SE. It's plug-and-play for everything. The most work involved is unscrewing the bottom of the case and the JLF-knockoff.

I'm using a TvC stick I bought for cheap with an adaptor on my PS3, but I don't have a fucnctional home button. I've already swapped in a Sanwa JLF joystick, but would like to convert it to a real PS3 stick.

You could install one of Toodles' Cthulhu boards, then. Assuming the internals of the Tatscap stick are the same as the SE, there should be a couple of pegs with holes you can use to mount the Cthulhu pretty easily. If you carefully slice off and separate the wires leading to the built-in Wii PCB (keep track of which wire connects to which button/direction!), you can strip them a little and use them with the Cthulhu's screw connectors. If you add a spare piece of wire between GND and Home terminals, you can get a Home button by pressing Start and Select together.

It's a bit more work, but you can keep using the controller you're used to, and it's probably still cheaper (even including an evening's labor) than buying a brand new one. And if you spend the couple extra bucks on an MC Cthulhu, you leave the door open to making your controller compatible with older systems as well. 360 is still a total pain, though.

Where can I buy the Tekken Hybrid TE Stick? Are they on sale yet? Did I miss the window? I can't find them listed anywhere, including the Mad Catz store.

Also, what's MarkMan's Twitter handle?

This isn't exactly the right thread for it, but I figured I'd try. Just bought a Capcom vs. SNK cabinet. Empty, but it was dirt cheap. Anyways, the buttons were oddly spaced. Started poking around, and the capcom art peeled off to show Namco art. Okay. Then, the Namco art peeled off to reveal MK2 art, which makes more sense.

I'm just curious if this is common practice, or did the arcade owner just recycle a cabinet? How would capcom/namco/midway even share a cabinet like that, officially? I'd imagine it would have to be the arcade owner. Picture for reference (that might or might not work):

Arcade machines come in the strangest condition sometimes. A friend has a candy cab that is now all cleaned up and running CvS2, but when he first bought it the cab was awful looking and running some WWF (or wrasslin of a sort) game that used three buttons...with only two buttons per player on the cab itself!

If you pressed both buttons simultaneously, was it rigged to act as the third button?

Some questions.

When will the Round 2 TE sticks be back in stock?

If I want a TE stick, should I just wait for the Soulcalibur one? What's the difference between it and the SF ones, minus the art?

Are they compatible with PC? That's a must.

If they connect via USB, can they be used for all consoles? Or do you really need to buy one for each?

Thanks in advance! I bought AE on Steam and am really liking it, so I figured I'd get serious about being able to play it. Playing on the 360 controller just doesn't cut it anymore after all these years. Plus, it seems fun learning a new control method.

I have a question as well for Arcade Stick GAF:

is it possible to get a replacement PCB for my Round 1 360 TE? It bit the bullet a little while ago (triggers only firing when they feel like it, I understand this is a common problem with the first wave) and I don't think I'm still within the warranty, although I admit I haven't yet read the fine print on it just yet.

Maybe someone else will point to a place, but I was never able to find one after I destroyed mine by dropping a soldering iron on it. I eventually just bought a cheap SE and swapped in the PCM from that and put a PS360 in the SE.

The MadCatz Namco/Tekken Hybrid stick shows up as a PS3 stick on the Club Namco page. I am under the impression that PS3 sticks cannot be dual-modded? I bought a TE earlier and remember being told to make sure I got the 360 version so I could dual-mod it. Does that still apply to this stick as well?

Unforunately, yes. There's no real way to piggyback 360 support onto a PS3 board because of Microsoft's proprietary crap, though the reverse is rather easy.

The PS3 ones are in stock on the Mad Catz web store. The Xbox 360 ones should be in stock too, I'll check on that tomorrow. The Xbox 360 one is compatible with the PC as it uses the same drivers as the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller.

They do not work on all consoles, just the console they are designed for.

They key differences between the SFIV Round 2 and the SOULCALIBUR V sticks are:

- SCV has the Namco Noir Layout (reminiscent of the Astro City layout; button and stick distance is further apart)
- SCV follows the button mapping/spec of SCV and not any other game
- Stainless steel screws on the SCV

Please let me know if there are any other questions.

The warranty period would be over yes. However I would suggest calling Mad Catz just in case to see if there is any replacements they can send. Here is the info to contact them. I highly suggest either calling or web chatting with them:

They can be dual modded, you just need to get an Xbox 360 PCB to add into it. Popular ones are Mad Catz FightPads or if you can find them in stock, Paewang boards.

I finally ordered the parts for my Poison stick, so that I can get it put together and show it on here so that notworksafe isn't the only one getting credit for having had that idea!

I decided to be a bit braver with button colors than I had originally planned to be, but I'm hoping it'll work out.

There's seriously nowhere to order/buy a PS3 stick. I don't want the round 2 TE since I already had it once. Playing charge characters on pad LOL

I guess that's the one I'll be buying in the future. I did look at the Mad Catz store, but I didn't see any "Buy" buttons anywhere. I guess I wasn't looking hard enough.

I would rather buy from Amazon, though, which is out of stock. Will you be sending them more round 2 sticks? Though I guess it doesn't really matter since I'm going to be broke for a good while, so I'm not in any rush.

Thanks for the answers, MM.

It's up to Amazon. They sell a ton of our sticks. Seeing as they're sold out, I'm sure they have more on order. :)

Just picked up a HRAP VX-SA. Had a chance to get one locally rather then all the online nonsense and I just couldn't pass it up. Sorry Markman, you guys make beautiful products, but for $140 I couldn't pass this up, I love the look of the HORI's.

This thing is GORGEOUS!!! Def a bargain compared to my HRAP EX (which I got BEFORE SF4 genre revitalization, and they were impossible to get) which I paid MORE for, and it had crap Hori buttons that I had to replace.

I love the size and feel and look of this stick, I'm so happy.

Question. I'm thinking about turning the old HRAP EX into a SHMUP stick. Can I just modify the gate for less throw, or would I be much better off changing out the JLF completely to a different joystick?

Generally speaking, shmup fans favor the Seimitsu LS-32 because of its shorter throw and slightly greater tension. There aren't any smaller square gates for the JLF that I know of.

EDIT: Haha, I knew I was forgetting something. Yeah, Seimitsu switches engage a lot sooner.
