I'm not sure whether I should have my ps3 TE dual modded or just buy a Quanba.
The modication will cost roughly $110

What's the best option?

Have you checked SRK Tech Talk to see if there are any other modders near you? I got my old stick modded by a dude named Gummowned for $80, iirc he usually goes to east coast tourneys to offer his services.

Turns out that stick I was talking about was an SNES stick: the QJ Topfighter.

Anyone know anything about this big ass tabletop stick? This is what I could find: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=11802

Does it look modable for my purposes? Like how hard does is it look to put in better buttons and levers? Mod for different system connections? (Saturn, Dreamcast, Genesis)

Edit: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=12611 Looks like he did mod in Sanwa parts. Just leaves me with the issue of getting it to work on Dreamcast and Saturn.

Sorry for the late reply. I used to have a pair of these a million years ago. They are well made, the case is all steel. They are very loud. Also if I remember correctly the hole for the joystick is square, which pretty much ruins the thing. Would not recommend anyone buy one.

I've used Focus Attack myself, and the only problem I had is that my product took longer than expected to arrive. I am 99% sure that was USPS' fault and not FA's, though.

The guy who owns Focus Attack, Jaleel Beck, is a nice guy who responds to support emails really quickly. I haven't heard of anyone getting ripped off by him. When my stick didn't arrive on time he was willing to ship me another stick free of charge.
I heard it was really good, but I was just surprised one of the go to places didn't seem to have a secure https and that's bad because this is one of the most common ways to get a fraudulent charge. Things get intercepted or something. I could always use paypal. If newyorkgames doesn't work out it looks like focus attack will have or is hoping to have some JLF's in early this week.

BUT, When I logged in just now and went straight to the checkout to make sure paypal was there and it was secure. But, when I click "My Account" something happens and it becomes un-secure again and stays that way until I log out and log back in and not click My Accounts.

Does that include labor? If so it's still cheaper than getting a Qanba

Yes, labour is included

Good idea; I found him in a Canadian gaming forum, but didn't bother to look in SRK

OMG, I want this stick.

BTW, anyone got some tips for putting your custom art on the buttons? I've only done solid buttons before with no art, but for my new Poison design I'd like to have art on the buttons to help preserve the picture. Where should I start?

Rather than on the buttons, get transparent buttons (both Sanwa and Seimitsu make these now), and put the art inside the buttons. Here's an SRK guide to the process for Seimitsu buttons; as I understand it, it's almost exactly the same for the Sanwa.

Early reports said you couldn't with the Sanwas but that may have changed once they were actually in production. I have a set but they are in a stick and I didn't try putting art in them so I'm not sure.

Update on contest.

I emailed MarkMan at the email he listed a few days ago. Still hoping he will pick a winner but I've not heard back. Assuming he is really busy.

Guys, how's the Qanba Q4RAF? I've been a Madcatz SFIV TE owner for the past 2 years and I think its time to move on. I can't get anyone to dual mod my TE in Dubai and there's something wrong with the wire. The stick stops responding randomly and I have to shake the wire to make it work again.

I've heard nothing but good things about it. I was extremely close to getting one myself but ultimately I decided I didn't really feel like spending $160 on a single product right now.

I've had a Q4RAF since last August and so far it has been flawless.

Does anyone know if there are any coupon codes or promotions coming up for madcatz sticks?? I want one of those VS sticks badly but am low on funds.

Are the SF x Tekken sticks supposed to be rare? Was considering picking one up, but prices on Amazon already seem to be higher than retail.

Just finished cleaning up the wiring in my VX-SA. Could've been better, but I'm satisfied.

Feels sooo good to be able to open it without having hundreds of cables flying out at you.

Focusattack just got a large JLF restock today.

Not sure what else they might have people are interested in.

excellent, now I can order my LS-58-01 in the color I want. I seem to remember there was a coupon code for free shipping on an order of $20+ of sticks/buttons from Sanwa and from Seimitsu, anyone know what it is? All I really remember is the Sanwa code ended in SS and the Seimitsu code ended in SSS. I don't even know if it expired.

Ive been getting back into fighting games recently..mainly MK, Tekken 6, SSF4 and will also be picking up SFxT next week.

Last year I bought a HRAP VX SA (360 version) and I am having the hardest time adjusting to the arcade stick.

Im not sure if it's because Ive always used pads for fighters (back to SF2 on SNES and Tekken2/3 on PSX) but for some reason I can never feel comfortable with a arcade stick. I tried it for a few weeks last year and recently started using it again in the past week but will find myself going back to a controller just so I could enjoy the game more.

My biggest issue right now seems to to be pulling off 2xQCF for some of the SF characters...it seems like such an easy move but Im only able to pull it off I would say 2 times out of 10 on the stick and 9 times out of 10 on the pad.

Has anyone else gone from being a pad player to exclusively using a stick and do you have any tips?

I love fighting games, I just hate that I suck so much at them.

That may be 3rd party sellers. Amazon sells them for MSRP. Amazon is shipping them for pre-orders, but have not fully stocked them yet.

This is a pretty standard situation for anyone new to stick from pad, right down to the frustration and going back to pad.

1) Everything takes practice, it's a control method you aren't used to, it will take practice.
2) Resist the temptation to go back to pad, see 1.
3) Use training mode and repeat motions that give you problems, see 1
4) Play games outside of fighters that make sense on a stick. Shmups, beat em ups, etc. Anything that isn't terribly hindered by playing on a stick (even 2D platformers!), just do it.

Ultimately, all 4 of those tips revolve around the first one. You just have to play with it until you get used to it. Find a comfortable grip. You don't need to put too much strength into it, just enough to actuate the microswitches. Use fluid motions, you don't have to ride the gate.

Totally in the same boat. I was a pad player for years and years. I was using pads for SFIV initially, until going to a stick 100%. 2xQCF and DPs still give me issues occasionally, but I can't go back because being able to use your whole hand for the buttons makes such a huge difference. There may be some exceptions, but I feel like you're handicapping yourself by having to manage buttons with mainly your thumb. The speed/accessibility of the buttons difference outweighs any wonkiness of a stick. Some fighters are stupidly neglectful in their button configs for pads too.

But yeah, sounds like a cop out answer, but you just gotta train yourself and develop the muscle memory. Doing the trial/mission combos in some games helps with this. Good luck.

Gimme a d-pad and arcade buttons. That would be ideal for me.

Thanks for the advice...I think I just need to wrap my head around how long it will actually take until I become adjusted to the stick. For some people it seems to take months.

When I get SFxT I will probably start off with the stick from the beginning and never go to the pad.

There's a modder on SRK's tech talk that does that with Saturn pads and Dualshocks, IIRC.

Hm..interesting. Thanks. I spent a ton already on sticks though.

I wonder if any developer would be wacky enough to let you use two controllers for one character with a stick and a pad. Maybe there's a way to do that on the PC for kicks.

lol, shame Vita doesn't accept dualshocks like PSP Go does. An axisdapter mod would be super easy and you'd only be dealing with whatever input lag is intrinsic to sixaxes/dualshock 3s.

Hello my Arcade Stick friends!

I am trying to mod my PS3 Street Fighter IV Round 2 FightStick Tournament Edition to also play on xbox 360. Please help me with what I need to accomplish this in the easiest way possible. I have purchase parts from Lizard Lick before but have seen people saying they are not as good as they used to be. Any suggestions as to where I can get the parts i need? Thanks ahead for the help!

The simplest way is to get someone with experience to do it for you. Other than that, I think the simplest way for you to do it yourself is to get a one of those PS360+ boards, but I'm not sure if they're out yet.

This has probably been asked before but is there anything different internally between the Street Fighter X Tekken Pro and V.S. outside of the ability to connect two together? They seem to have the same specs as an arcade stick otherwise.
