Wood doesn't bring any added functionality over a plastic case, it just feels better (for some). If it's a luxury item, what's wrong with trying to make it more unique? I feel it's what a custom arcade stick builder should go for.

I didn't say there's anything wrong with it. I was just saying that, for me, those sticks aren't appealing. I think B15's cases are plenty unique. Each one of my customs is, too, even if they're shaped similarly.

The functionality part was just my preference. I buy a custom because I want it fit to my preferences. For me, that's different art and placement of buttons/layout. For you, that's something else. :)

Yea that seems to be the par for Razer honestly.
Their 360 pad isn't any more than the official one. But it kinda shows. The face buttons are awesome but the rest feels cheap. And forget fighting games on it. The dpad was clearly made with FPSs in mind.

So.. I noticed the ivory eightarc fusions are back in stock.. I've got a left nut I don't need.

So look what came in today!

This thing is a beast. It's huge and heavy. And I love it. I feel like if someone tried to Noel Brown me, I could use this as a shield to defend myself.

Apologies for messy table and crappy lighting. Damn, this really does take some time to get used to. Slowly ironing them out but it is a really different experience. Maybe it's the placebo effect, but I certainly feel like everything I want to do is being transmitted to the screen faster, like the buttons are responding to me faster than me trying to forcefully push down a face button on my pad. Wrapping your head around using all your fingers and the thumb takes a minute but I've picked it up. Now I just have difficulty remembering to use all the buttons and not accidentally touching them so they register when there is a slight breeze. Still an improvement over my 360 pad with a drifting, broken left stick.

Also, I'm not sure how to hold the stick exactly. Right now I'm just kind of holding it with my thumb and index finger on the ball top moving it around, gonna try the wineglass or wineglass in between your ring finger and pinky. Anyone know what's most beginners find comfortable?

I'm loving the stick so far, it's really fun to use, and it's a pretty piece of kit. The black casing is actually semi-transparent in areas, but just barely. Kinda itching to mod it already, but I'm gonna let it breathe a bit before I go screw around with it. What can/can't I do without voiding the warranty on this?

Anyways, a huge thank you to the most generous Yes Boss! and MarkMan as well. I'm having a blast and wouldn't be without your generosity to a random stranger on the internet. And for thank you a ton. Now I can participate in this thread instead of lurking and whining about not being able to find a stick in Canada! :D

I love this stick, haha.

I'm in the camp of wanting plenty of space between the stick and buttons. That's why I don't really feel comfortable on candy and vewlix cabs (though the noir cabs have more room).

On my custom wood stick, it's 5 inches between stick and buttons, plus plenty of palm space, and space on ends. This is a strictly a home stick, to big for me to take to gatherings.

On my modded TK5 hori that I take places, I play with the outer 6. It's a shade under 3 inches between the stick and buttons. I think that is perfect compromise for me. Plus I like the slant of the hraps.

I do look forward to the razor stick and see how it feels.

Does anybody know how much the Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 SA goes for? Im thinking about selling mine

Thanks guys. Also, any tips on doing SRK and QCF motions? Having lots of trouble, is there a proper technique to it? Riding the edges is a bit different on stick.

Just ride them for know. Eventually your efficiency will improve and you'll be able to do all your movements without taking the stick too far from neutral (except for charging of course)

As far as grips go, when I got my first stick I got used to thumb on the ball, index behind and middle finger around the bottom of the ball/shaft area. I found that it struck a good balance between comfort and usability. QC motions are a lot easier with a wine glass grip however, just find out what suits you.

Congrats again, thing looks like a monster.

Is it worth picking up the Tournament VS Stick, if I already have the SFIV Tournament Edition?

both have the exact same parts only different design, if you like sticks then yes but remember it does the same thing.
if you want another stick try getting a rare old one, hell you could buy Spaniard's HRAP3 which is an awesome stick i prefer it over the TE just cause of the sheer sturdiness that the HRAP3 has.

I see. Thanks for the tip! :)

Drooling so hard right now.

I did a Google Translate of the 4Gamer link and scanned some interesting information about the Fighting Edge stick

-- 2 years in development;
-- it's been thoroughly tested by a member of Team Hori, Mr. Sako (pro player?)
-- as said before, the levers and buttons are a new Hori design; the gist of the article and accompanying links is that they're stressing that the joystick is a lot better than you'd think; I think Sako says they were going for a Sanwa JLF feel but maybe slightly harder like a Seimitsu
-- seems like Sako is hard on hardware and has broken quite a few things; they engineered this joystick to be tough

* Sako's a big Vampire Savior fan

* the Hori joystick mounting plate on the the lever itself looks like a short (square) Seimitsu mounting plate.... Not much to see. There were percentages given for the stick that I assume are about force and resistance but I don't know the context since Google Translate garbles language translation any way you slice it

* I don't think this joystick is being marketed as a Real Arcade Pro
* Hori acknowledged that the stick has to last longer than a year; we'll see after the first few people get their hands on this stick and report back about it; I'm still cautious on the buttons; the stick lever will probably work fine for SF IV and contemporary games but I have my doubts with regards to retro-gaming...

Looking at buying this for $130 shipped:

It's a MAS Super Pro Stick - Happ 8-way competition stick + concave Happ buttons. Wired for PSX/PS2 but I have Playstation converters for Saturn, Dreamcast, and Xbox (my main systems I would use this with).

I'm a big fan of American/Happ parts; so disregarding a preference for Sanwa/Seimitsu parts, what do you guys think of this purchase? Thanks!
there is this one store that was selling one of these for 50 bucks but it had one of those old school pc connections on it. no idea how to convert something like that though.

That Hori stick looks amazing.

Anyways would this work on a TE http://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-jlf-tp-8yt-sk-joystick/

pretty sure my joystick on my te is busted so i need to replace it

Busted? How so? Is it just unresponsive or is there something physically wrong with it?

If the former, you can get away with replacing only the micro switch assembly. Looks like Focus Attack lists the part but is sold out right now though: http://www.focusattack.com/sanwa-tp-ma-pcb-assembly/

That should be an exact replacement for the lever in your TE, but before you hit the purchase button, can you describe the symptoms?

I already hit the purchase button :(

anyways the main symptom ive gotten is occasionall when playing MVC3 after hitting the launcher button the game will register a tiger kneed qcf motion its very strange

Is it only after launching? Are you sure auto-follow after launch is turned off in the options menu?

Hey...I'm tired of blowing complete chunks at fighting games and while I do know that just getting a stick won't make my gdlk, I still would like to learn how.

I have a rather shitty stick that barely works so I am in the market for a improved one.

Not sure what to really look for...and I rather not completely break the bank either.

Tough spot I know. If I have to I would take the plunge with an expensive one tho.

The one I'm look at now is this one

http://www.nikingstore.com/shop/qanba-q2-full-sanwa-joystick-fightstick-for-ps3-275.html

I'm not sure if it's good (i.e better than my $30 fighting stick 3...that is half broken) but it is in my price range at the very least (although I'm not too sure about the vendor).

Help a scrub out please?

there is also this one but i don't know anything about arcade sticks so maybe some of the experts can tell you what is better.

Qanba is legit, and they have a good reputation. Any stick that uses Sanwa parts is quality - those are the same parts that are used in Japanese arcade machines, so they're built to last.

One thing to be aware of is that Qanba sticks aren't officially licensed by Sony/Microsoft, so there is a tiny chance that Sony could block them from being used in a firmware update - this has never actually happened, and I honestly don't think it's ever going to, but it's something to be aware of.

An alternative to getting that would be to get the Hori Soul Calibur V stick, which is licensed by Sony and also has Sanwa parts:

http://stores.horiusa.com/-strse-137/SOULCALIBUR-V-Stick-for/Detail.bok

Use the coupon code HORI12E102 to get it for $100, which is a crazy good deal. The code lasts until the 31st, according to Hori's Facebook.

Wow, I just now took a look at the Hori SCV stick, and man, that looks very, very nice. First stick I've been interested in since that $300 Premium VLX. 2 USB ports? Buttons all along the back? Big form factor? Check. I wonder how heavy or light it is.

I finally tried out Korean parts in NCR10. Luckily Laugh let me borrow his Etokki Omni Korean edition to try out. Damn they feel good. My initial reaction was that the levers are American sticks with a Japanese sensibility. Buttons feel solid too. While I am prone to struggling with American levers and ones with octagonal/circular gates, I was able to do most of my motions just fine.

Can you daisy-chain other controlers through the USB ports? 3DO multiplayer technology making a return.

Heh, yeah, that is funny. I wonder if you can charge a Dual Shock 3 pad through the USB ports while using the arcade stick. Anyone know how much shipping is through Hori's store in the USA? That $50 off deal is pretty appealing.

Yeah, the more I look at it the more cool it looks. The concealable Start button is a really nice touch. I'd get one myself if I didn't just get a HRAP VX-SA a month ago.

Also it's worth mentioning the 360 stick is on sale too

Last time I ordered a stick from their site, shipping was free.

MMMMMMMmmmmmmm

I am trying to not buy one now. Ok, if I fail, and buy one, what's a better way to go for this SCV stick? 360 or PS3? I have perfectly adequate sticks for both systems already...so I am at a loss. I'm tempted to go 360 because of all the shooting games on the system, but aesthetically I hate the headphone jacks on 360 sticks, and the PS3 version has such neat-o USB ports and the like.

Hey guys. Always wanted to post on this thread and now that I finished up my arcade stick project. I can!

2cqO7l.jpg

Dual Modded (Thanks to Next Level) 360 Blazblue Arcade Stick Tournament Edition. Siemitsu buttons and a bat top. The theme for this is obviously KOF XIII. I didn't want to have people's places plastered over so i stuck with silhouettes for the 4 main characters (Ash, Elizabeth, Kyo, Iori). I added the strip on the bottom afterwards with the whole cast as it felt like the top looked a bit empty, with the Kusanagi flame around the washer for the joystick as a last little touch. Not the flashiest stick, but a project thats been several years in the making. Hope you enjoy.
