NeoGAF, welcome to .webm - the FUTURE (of burning out your CPU)

whats KNk?

Kara no Kyoukai, one of the best series in recent memory, and of course: Gorgeous. Check it out if you haven't.

On another note, everything plays fine except the problem I have is files either not wanting to load, or stopping loading halfway. It seems the worst with anything with audio.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML_5_video

If you look through h264 was going to be the initial video for HTML5, but it's burdened by all sorts of copyrights (indeed microsoft and apple STILL support HTML5 video, but only in h264 since they are both part of the consortium that controls patents for it).

It's more about accessibility I think... They both have similar features, though obviously applied in different ways to avoid trademarks.

Small pet peeve, but copyright, patents and trademarks are all quite different things, even though they sometimes get lumped together into a conglomerate called "intellectual property". They shouldn't be conflated though. In this case, the issue lies with patents.

Huh, this looks weirdly washed out, dithered, and is running in slow mo.

Not sure if this might be helpful or not but mediafire supports webm playback with no limits on size or length (At least i haven't hit them yet)

Smash Bros (Greninja and Charizard) 1080p/72.3mb/2:21min

http://mfi.re/watch/ft7s8z5q3t9vy44/Smash.webm

However i have no idea how to set it up like with the current file hosters that people are using so it either autoplays or plays when you hover over it. I use Imagus and i'm guessing it has to be added to the list of websites?

If so how would i do it?

Eh, Safari, of course, can't replay it. Embedding h264/mp4 would yield the same results, though.

I was looking into that, but it's a bit too difficult for me to figure it out, and there's no documentation for imagus.

You can go here in your chrome browser to give it a try.

chrome-extension://immpkjjlgappgfkkfieppnmlhakdmaab/options.html#sieve

Or through chrome extensions->imagus->options->sieve

Eventually the devs will add it though.

Yeah i'm currently looking into the sieve portion but i honestly can't make sense of what i need to do lol.

True, till then i'll look for any other hosting options.

Actually i should probably go through the hosting options that imagus already supports, might find a good one there.

I came across medicru.sh before but it limits you to 50mb.

*various webms*
My god, this is exactly what I was waiting for. ElToro you make the most glorious gifs ever. Seeing them with the quality, fps, and sound of webm has me more excited about webms than anything else tbh. I can only imagine the quality we will be seeing this E3.... I can hardly contain myself. You and SunhILegend are like 90% of what makes this site legendary.

I don't think that's 60fps (check other Sonic Unleashed (it's Unleashed, right?)) videos that have been posted before. Are you running it at 60fps? Are you recording it at 60fps (fraps options)?

The 5 Sonic webms posted earlier in the thread were 60fps and actually Sonic Generations on PC running our Unleashed levels/mod. So yes and no re: if it's Unleashed. No way the original console Unleashed would hit 60fps other than in Holoska, and even not even consistently then.

These look pretty. Not sure what plugins are for because they are playing fine without my doing anything to Firefox? And I don't have any CPU spikes.

One thing: The default internationally accepted settings should be non-stop loop, no audio, no play button/timeline. It makes it do different than an embedded video.

I just clicked one the random examples here and got blasted with sound. And to stopping and playing again, no.

GIF works perfectly because of its simplicity. It's a silent moving, looping picture.

So the UN needs to agree on the same standards as GIF. Silent looping images that are easy to post anywhere.

Adding all this complexity is bad.

The quiet, pixelated, looping goodness was the charm and humor of GIF. These are just youtube videos.

The ugly compression makes GIFs so much funnier. But of course time moves ever on in its flat circle ways. People desire HD Kazification.

So who's in charge of setting a universal standard? Simply make Webm silent and looping with no video player like buttons. That makes it an embedded video.

Also, Webm is bad. Call them WIFs. Or WIFFS if it is too close to "wifi". It just sounds better. No other reason needed. WIF !

This was originally going to be a .webm of the ending of Castle Crashers, but instead I found out that segment's about 50 seconds long, and the .mp4 I had of it had other audio in the background. :(
