NeoGAF, welcome to .webm - the FUTURE (of burning out your CPU)

This is history in the making.

What is more important for forums than gifs? Nothing

And now they are infinitely better.

In what version? It doesn't work for me in Firefox 28, just displays a play bar in a black screen with no video.

Also, is this format potentially more susceptible to embedded viruses than more prevalent formats since it hasn't been used a lot? It's scary to choose something from 4chan as a new standard. :P

The extension is working great. The first page has some frame skipping, but that's to be expected with all of the webm's being loaded at once. Great work Andrex.

I think I'm going to get Chrome just for that extension. At least, I'll use it until Firefox gets one.

Holy shit this is so awesome. .gifs seem even more terrible now. All hail .webm and .webp

With Andrex's extension, you can right click on the image to Mute or Unmute the sound.

Also, fucking Mario Kart looks incredible.

Damn, it looks great on Chrome. Will wait for the Firefox port though.

Although it does cause my CPU to melt when there's more then a few on screen.

This is absolutely incredible.

A few questions -

1. How difficult is it to make an extension to allow users to view webms on a given website?
2. How do you make a webm?

Can somebody make a Safari extension for Apple Mac's?? Err, I wouldn't know where to start.

Also this doesn't load on iOS so I can't experience any of the goodness you're all witnessing.

On this day, the gif died. Goodbye old buddy.

the only problem is the amount of CPU usage that webms seem to use with the extension. I think the solution would be to allow the loop to start when you click on the webm, then re-click to stop the loop.

Can that be a reality?

Is there a way to enable audio for the Chrome extension?

Can you imagine? Thirty-fifty wifs with sound playing as soon as you load a page?

There'd have to be some kinda feature where they don't load until they're on your screen, and the unload when they go off it.

Ha, I just did more or less the same thing myself. It really does kick your PCs ass though.

Seriously. My CPU usage is at 100% too on the first page, and the files run slower.

The quality still curbstomps GIFs, though, and they work fine when popped into another tab separately.

Just learning how to edit gifts and now the format changes. Will this be easier or does the ability to edit them even exist yet?
