NeoGAF's Best Films of All-Time: Results Thread

Out of the Top 10, I've only seen 4 (2001: A Space Oddysey, Alien, Pulp Fiction, and The Dark Knight).
HATE 2001, I think Alien is the better side of mediocre, I really really love Pulp Fiction, and The Dark Knight is my 9th favorite movie ever.

A typical internet list, but I love lists so I'm happy!

Dying @ The Dark Knight being in the top 10. I should've expected it but that still caught me off guard.

The entire list is filled with great movies at least, even if it doesn't start getting interesting until after you get past this generation's top movies that typically have a stranglehold on these lists (most of them for good reason).

I should watch Lawrence of Arabia

One of the best Blu Rays I own. Absolutely stunning.

I just watched Apocalypse Now again yesterday and that film really doesn't hold up for me. I remember being so impacted by it as a kid but its a pretty laborious viewing for me now.

The only people that complain are the minority who don't like it. Most people like these films. It's a popular vote.

We endured a lot of painstaking labor. Thanks to Mr. Sam and Shiera Seastar for their involvement in getting this thread together, and Harson for the original voting thread. As for the list, it came out much better than I expected, some of the submissions almost gave me whiplash from how much I was shaking my head. I might post a link to the voting spreadsheet later for more context.

I personally do find it a positive and uplifting film, but probably for the same reasons other people find it manipulative and saccharine. Its got some good performances, crazy good chemistry between Freeman and Robbins, a "mini-epic" sense of time passing, a fantastic ending an absolute masterpiece of a score. i don't think its a personal top ten, but I think its a weird victim of one of those cycles where some people can absolutely hate it because others preach about it too much.

It actually bemuses me that its so high in the top 250, because its so opposite to that hoi poli unsophisticated mindset we attribute to the average imdb user. Its a long film, about human relationships with no explosions or real scenery change and yet its well loved. I can't really hate that.

Also, this moment

I mean, I don't hate the movie or anything but I always found it incredibly by-the-numbers. I don't have an issue with anyone enjoying it, but the fact that it consistently ranks so high seems strange given the material.

Was Dark Knight a compromise for the under 30 crowd? Lol. Back to the Future is way to low so yeah gaf don't know shit about anything again.

People complaining that a polled list of the best movies is too predictable-what are you expecting-Uncle Buck at #1?

The Dark Knight was a widely critically claimed film and often-cited as one of the major oscar snubs. I think TDK haters aren't being logical here.
