You must hate the Demon Slayer anime then.

I have watched that. Perhaps I'm just stupid, or perhaps I care so little for the religious connotations that I don't associated it with religion either.

Perhaps I should consider it a blessing (lol) that I can completely tune out nonsense that I don't care for (well, despise to some degree, but it hardly keeps me up at night). Though now you've pointed it out, like with Narnia, perhaps I won't be able to enjoy it now. If so, thanks, I guess.

You can't enjoy media that has any sort of religious connotations? That's pretty damn limiting.

Netflix and Narnia... I bet the protagonists in the new tv series will now come from a non white amily, one of those kids will be gay, the true hero of the story will be a girl, the boys will all be incompetent fools and world of Narnia will be filled with magical creatures from all races. CS Lewis' religious symbolism will be removed entirely.
Isn't the main protagonist a girl anyway

Only if I'm blatantly aware of them. And as I said, I don't notice them unless people point them out.

By that I don't mean religion being part of the story or plot. Obviously that's fine. I mean media that is religiously allegorical. I just seem completely oblivious to it.

So, yes, I can and do enjoy lots of different media. Thank you for your concern.

I guess it's a good thing you're so oblivious even when it's so obvious like in Narnia. Atheist fragility is really something.

I don't understand how you just can't accept that I didn't see anything religious in it.

And the only one showing fragility here is you; who seems very upset that someone dare not take away lessons about God or whatever from a story.

Oh, I understand. You don't have wit enough to see it. At least it works in your favor since you are apparently hypersensitive to it.

No, yes, no, no, yes
I would ask which picture you're referencing, but I like the mystery.

Anyways, on topic, Netflix would ruin it and disrespect the author's memory and disrespect the fans of their IP. I don't even want to entertain this idea. There's no reason for a company like Netflix to touch this series since they would absolutely gut the religious symbolism which is 70% of the point.

I want Amazon to take the story and have product placement everywhere.

"The Lion, Nintendo Switch and the Ikea Wardrobe. Based on the best selling book by CS Go".

I'm a pretty staunch atheist. But I've never once had a problem with it. My favorite piece of fiction is Lord of the Rings, which is super Catholic. I mean, sure I don't want to be preached at, but if the story is good, the story is good.

I find Christian / Jewish mysticism fascinating, for example

Oddly, despite knowing of the Christian allegory in Lord of the Rings, it still hasn't bothered me. But with Narnia it does. It think that's down to it being far more on the nose in Narnia and, more importantly, that I looked up a bit of the Narnia stuff which must be what put me off.

I'm not sure the "their own house of the dragon" remark hits the target, mate.

That Netflix is making Narnia has been known for several years, and Narnia is a treasured property around the world. I fell in love with it watching the BBC version during the 80s. Then read the books.

This, if ataying true to the books will be fantasy for children. The LotR comparison isn't way off the mark concidering Tolkien and Lewis were friends, but still very different.

Let's hope they do it justice and refrain from turning it into an action spectacle.

Please don't. The Hollywood movies were mediocre at best and I don't see Netflix top even that. Let the novels rest in peace.
Way more overt Catholicism references in Narnia for sure but idk I find that series are far more enjoyable than films and more likely to be finished. It really depends on the level of writing and the production value. The films were OKAY but they cut a lot for screen time and generally a series gives a lot more time for character development.

I'm of the opposite opinion. Films are far more enjoyable than series. The total blowout we've seen with television shows the past decade has made them far less exciting. And a lot of them never hits the finishing line either, with half the shows greenlit being cancelled by the end of season 2, thus wasting my time for even begin watching it. And Netflix doesn't exactly have a stellar record with their books and video game adaptations (or their originals for that matter), with a very hit and miss quality to a lot of their output. I'd probably be more interested in this project if HBO picked up the rights, they are at least somewhat consistent with their shows.

Yeah that’s fair I forgot about it being Netflix HBO did have a better track record until the Discovery buy out. I think for them a show has to be hit on cable AND streaming to be safe from cancellation now though…still baffled about Westworld that deserves a season 5 to wrap up.

That's a head scratcher. Raised by Wolves too. And Dark Crystal was only given one season (better than nothing I guess). All of them very popular and acclaimed shows. That's why I don't give a fuck about most shows these days. The networks just cancel shit out of the blue and move on with the next project. That's why I'm starting to despise all these subscription services, they just want you dragged into their eco system and then give you the middle finger.

Yeah TBH Disney Plus and Hulu and Apple TV+ are the only reliable ones HBO used to be but their new management comes from cable TV and preserving that business model seems to be the top priority instead of growing subs. Which honestly sucks because now you have to worry about seemingly invincible shows like House of the Dragon or Curb Your Enthusiasm being cut too.

I want a bleak, brutal movie version of The Silver Chair so badly. But the chances that this project will (a) be anything other than a smug shallow deconstruction and (b) remain good five movies in is… nonexistent.
