Apocalypse now? TV Guide Magazine confirms that Netflix has approached CBS about reviving cult fave Jericho — and the network, through its CBS TV Studios production arm, is considering it. The drama, which followed the residents of a small Kansas town in the wake of a nuclear attack, has been off the air since 2008.

Repeats of Jericho remain popular on Netflix's on-demand service, even four years after the show's cancellation. Insiders say Netflix execs would love to emulate the revival of Fox's Arrested Development, which is expected to return on Netflix with new episodes in 2013, seven years after the show ended its run. Like Arrested fans, Jericho's are a passionate bunch: CBS renewed the post-apocalyptic show for a second season in 2007 after viewers bombarded the network with cases of peanuts.

Talks are still in preliminary stages, and insiders warn that it's too soon to celebrate, as there are still many hurdles to overcome before a deal is struck. Making it financially viable for both Netflix and CBS may be the biggest challenge of them all. It's unclear how much more original programming makes sense for Netflix, which is already committed to two seasons of the original Kevin Spacey drama House of Cards (from David Fincher) in addition to Arrested. Also, due to concerns over its subscriber levels, Netflix has seen its share price drop more than 25 percent in the past month.

Am I the only person who wishes Netflix would use the money it takes to create all this original content (Ok other than AD Season 4) and use it to add tons and tons of old movies & tv shows to their streaming library?

With how much they seem to be spending on original content they probably could have almost doubled their library size by now.

I don't get why they keep kicking around the idea of keeping these shitty shows around (recently kicked around saving Terra Nova as well). How bout a new season of Veronica Mars or something like that? Get a show with real pedigree back, not fringe stuff that is poor quality and was poorly received from a ratings perspective.

I pray to god you're not talking about Arrested Development.

Fuck that, get Firefly!!!!!!

Firefly at least got a movie, and Nathan is doing pretty good with Castle. Not sure if it would ever happen.

With Journeyman on the other hand, I'm not sure if anyone in that show is doing anything worthwhile at the moment. Funny enough the actor that plays Jack Vasser (Dan's bother) was in Dollhouse.

Fillion is definitely interested in doing another season. The man jokes about trying to get the rights all the time. The problem is getting the rest of the crew. I'm sure Whedon would be down for it. It's not like Glau is doing anything important.

Completely agreed, don't give crap about Jericho or Arrested Development. If they were going to do all of this garbage they should have nabbed Conan O'brien or something viable. I'd rather they just get more shows and movies, preferably from networks they don't seem to have like HGTV/The E Channel etc. etc.

that would be really cool. the way it ended really made me want more and... i think they could probably just do a redo of season 2 and get away with it because they were super rushed.

I love Jericho, it was soo real that America couldn't handle it!

it would be amazing if something bad happened to the states and the only threat was there own people.

I loved that the Chinese helped out the states, I think that was a really shocker considering how everyone would feel Chinese would evade the states

Well they should really get more original content so they aren't so hamstrung by the content providers. But yeah new material on instant stream would always be welcomed

Netflix would probably prefer the same thing. However, I doubt the studios are content with just hiking up the price.

Um... Jericho wasn't "revive 5 years later" good.

It is if you're attempting to build a reputation for creating content for subscribers. Its likely cheap (no big sets or SFX) and depending how much CBS would like to whore out Jericho it could end up being a very good deal for Netflix.

Sorry, Whedon can't hear you over that mad Hollywood money and praise.

lol

Honestly though, I'm pretty sure he'd do it if the situations was right - the primary actors were available, he was given the needed creative control, the budget isn't too gimped, etc.

Eh.

And Firefly is not going to happen, or else they would have started to have preliminary talks by now. Nathan and Alan, and Jewel and Morena are on completely opposite production schedules, making it pretty impossible for either to do it while the other is working.

(Nathan and Allen film August - March/April, Jewel and Morena film in the summer)

SG-U, Screw the Haters

BTW: RIP Joel Goldsmith, Composer of the StarGate series (son of Jerry Goldsmith), died a couple days ago.
