Netflix The Witcher Discussion

Yeah, good point. None of the changes they've made so far have bothered me that much, because I can't say I loved the books that much. They're good, but very disjointed. They'd be fools to monkey around too much with where the story goes once we hit the games though.

Indeed. I didnt see anyone talking but I like the casting choice for Dijkstra. Was surprised to see him in the show. Considering the other not so great casting choices this was quite nice. Actor played well.

He's a good actor. Dijkstra feels a little too much like Littlefinger to me in the show, but I guess that's understandable, given GoT's influence.

I wish it had GoT's budget :) If there is one show Netflix should give more money, it's this one. Very often it shows they have little to work with and it ruins it a bit. Ep1 and the last one are prolly the only ones they invested a ton of money.

I guess the more popular it gets, the bigger budget they’ll give it!

I can't imagine they will copy much from the games, I don't think they have that license, just the books.

This season was a wash due to the need to set up Blood Origins, but my guess for the next 2-3 seasons is: BOOK SPOILERS/SHOW SPECULATION

Season 3 leads up to the mage conference where Vilgifort turns against the other mages and Ciri makes her first major leap
Season 4 Ciri ends up in the gang, goes lesbian, Geralt + Yen tracks her with some of his menagerie like the vampire and archer girl, Cahir is/is not a good guy??
Season 5 Geralt and Ciri reunite (perhaps after Ciri escapes Bonham, the elves, and meets all the unicorns +/- Lancelot), stand and fight against Vilgifort and then against Emhyr who probably doesn't just show up, expo dump, and then walk away like he did in the books
I think they can make this a faster paced show if they stick to this time table. They gotta be willing to dump some characters though who have gotten FAR too much screen time.

I thought Season 2 was a good season. Left me wanting more.

I didn't know who the witch was that took over Ciri. I didn't see any of that foreshadowed in the series.

Finished the season. What a steaming piece of shit. The writing is so IMBECILE it physically hurts. Incompent witchers, teleporting horses everywhere, forced storytelling, idiotic motivations... there's a bit of everything from the book of the moron millennial writer.
Casting is mostly terrible. Actors are mostly terrible. Chalotra on top of them, Yen has been twisted from a badass and smart, experienced mage to a teenager moron. Jaskier is constantly out of context and the poop songs are dreadful. Emhyr completely lacks charisma, not everyone could be Charles Dance, but come on. I could go on and on for pages, but I'm tired of ranting, this crap doesn't even deserve my time.

I've said this somewhere else, I might as well say it here too.
If you watch the 3 hour specials in LotR collector's, one of the producer says something along those lines (sorry for not making a direct quote, a lot of time passed):
"Every now and then we tried doing our own thing, just to realize that Tolkien knew better"
(then they changed stuff anyway and obviously those are the weakest parts of the movies. I still love the movies, toh, despite hating the changes)
Not a surprise that the best of the three is, by large, the first one, which is the one most adhering to the source material.

EDIT:
Good things about it:
Francesca casting is excellent.
Dijkstra is excellent.
Cavill is awesome and I feel bad because he deserves better.

I really liked the games and the books. The tv series is an abomination, and I’m not referring to the original Polish version. I’m amazed Netflix has managed to make it worse than that.

Yes please don't google it. I've seen it couse I'm from Poland and yes it's bad. Back on the topic I've seen first 2 episode from season 2 and it's kind of boring. It looks good but it failed to pull me in like first season. On the other hand just watched the animated one with Vesemir and it was quite good.

I thought S2 was a lot better than 1 but then again, I thought the first season was awful. Not sure if I'd recommend it to anyone unless they're a fan of the books/games.

Just finished the second season and wow episode 8 is so bad. Middle of the season was actually ok but so what if the ending was an insult. Sorry no tossing coin to Netflix. Either stick to the books or hire better showrunner.
