new Advent Rising video @ IGN

Sweet.

I was just reading an article about this game in the last issue of XBN - game sounds really good - and from the impressions on IGN, it sounds like this could be a keeper. IGN says the game is far from polished (graphically I suppose) but the video looks awesome imo.

Looking forward to April.

Music is pretty cool but i dont see whats so special about this game.

The branching storyline and the controls IMO -

from IGN:
Originally built as a third-person action game (and now featuring full first-person perspectives too), Advent Rising introduces a new and unique targeting system for combating enemies called Flick Targeting. By quickly tapping the analog controller, players rapidly toggle the targeting reticule to any enemy on screen. If you push the right analog slowly it simply pans the camera across the screen, but by flicking you receive an ultra fast targeting reticule, upon which your character loosely operates like a spoke on a wheel to compose attacks. It sounds pretty simple, actually a lot like Zelda's z-targeting. While it is a variation of z-targeting, it's better and different. Because the reticule can move so quickly without moving the camera along with it and dizzying gamers, GlphyX can actually ramp up the speed with which enemies attack, leap, and animate. You'll see enemies dart across the screen, jump off second stories, and move at incredible rates in their pursuit if you.

But what makes Advent Rising particularly interesting is how all of these powers come together. Any time you engage in combat, you'll be able to pick up weapons from the bodies of dead enemies and dual wield. Using the analog buttons to move and target, you can push face buttons to perform in-air acrobatic moves that, depending on the direction of your movement, are entirely different. And you can switch to any weapon or use any power while in-air and attacking. It's a wild ride. And unlike the last two times I saw the game, when the wily camera was off-putting and the framerate was so bad my eyes hurt, this time around, the gameplay was relatively smooth, the actions worked, and there was a distinct skill in composing all of the moves together. Mustard referred to the huge arsenal of moves in classic form: "I want to give gamers the ability to compose their own symphony of death." Ah, ye olde "symphony of death." Sounds like fun to me.

They also go on about the graphics, framerate, etc.

Article here.

the game looks and sounds very cool. i LOVE the art style in the game. i just hhope it all comes together as all reports have it being quite flawed thus far, and last e3 it was retarded buggy.

thanks for the video, definitely anticipating this one.

It really doesn't look that great to me. The art style is fine, but I see so many little graphical glitches and the anition is super fast and really jerky. Jaggies and poor textures don't help the overall look, either. I don't see this title being anything special.

that video was really cool.

heres some screens

The game looks horribly bland and generic,IMO...plus its being published by Majesco and its from some dev team I've never heard of before,I don't have much hope :P

The early builds of this game were rough, but had tons of potential. Looks like they may have pulled it off. Between the concepts it's based on and the Orson Scott Card story, this is at the top of my list.

i think it has more personality then halo. also it is sci-fi, so everything looks bland and generic.
plus its being published by Majesco
Who is also publishing Psychonauts, and teamed with Starbreeze on a next generation game. While Majesco is small, they are actually doing pretty well.

Woohoo, let's be stupid and not give new studios a chance. Actually GlyphX has been around for years, but mostly doing contract art work in high poly count models for movies and games.

The game was really poor performing at E3, but hopefully they have fixed a lot of their problems.

The game looks quite cool.

Meh at the comments some of the people are making here. Some are conveniently jaded people that drool whenever a generic japanese game is announced or media is released for it.

Im just sayin, this is probably the 10,000th time youve pulled the japanophile card on these forums.

Actually you are dead wrong. If anything, this is the one of the very few times I do. You're probably confusing me with someone else. I normally stick to threads for games I've either played or have an interest in (Japanese games included.)

I could have sworn you were saying this sort of thing alot during when fable came out. i may be wrong, either way im sure you can think of a better argument than "If it was japanese...".

This game looks like a lot of fun. The only complaint I have is the some of the character and enemy models look quite unappealing almost like a cartoon trying to look realistic. The battles look to have tons of variety though I'm gonna have to keep an eye on it.

I might've said something, but I really have no recollection of saying such a thing. I normally don't say such things (you can probably see my past postings,) as most of the times I keep my replies to games I have played, or have an interest in. If I don't care much for a game, I rarely will post in a thread about it.

I am also sure you can think of a better argument than "game full of cliches..." to dismiss a title. I guess all those games that have plenty of cliches like GTA, Halo, MGS, RE, etc, should be dismissed because of it. When I mentioned Japanese games, it wasn't really a pun to those games as I enjoy them as much as Western games. We get tons of japanese games' previews and rarely do we see the a comment like it's "cliched" or something, when it's obvious many many japanese games (as well as western ones) suffer from it. Not that I'd dismiss them for it anyway.
