New Dead Rising Game in Development, Now Set In Hollywood

According to our sources, this new Dead Rising installment has been in development since at least 2023 under the codename "Rec" and will feature the return of the beloved protagonist, Frank West. This is particularly relevant, as all signs point to the game being a direct sequel to the first title. However, we have not been able to confirm this latter detail officially, so you may want to take it with a grain of salt.

Such a setting implies the story could take place before Dead Rising 2, a game known for shifting focus to a new hero, Chuck Greene, leaving Frank on the sidelines until the Case West DLC.

If this is indeed the direction Capcom is taking, it would be a smart move. With the existence of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, they have the perfect opportunity to introduce newcomers to the series while providing direct narrative continuity to Frank West's storyline.

Now, regarding the setting for this new zombie outbreak, we can confirm it will take place in Hollywood, primarily within a massive, enclosed movie studio lot.

We also know the title's main villain will be an extravagant and deranged film director who forces Frank and other survivors into various trials, all in the pursuit of filming his "perfect movie".

So far, everything here seems pretty in line with what we have previously seen in the games, particularly the recurring appearance of insane individuals, whom we've known in the series as Psychopaths. These Psychopaths would also be present here, sometimes acting as minions sent by the director. Most notably, one of these key minions is the director's right-hand man, whom Frank happens to save early in the game, and who is tasked with filming everything while having a bomb strapped to his body.

Although Frank won't be alone in his fight, as the game will feature the presence of major survivors, including actors who have taken refuge from the outbreak. One of these relevant survivors is a girl searching for her sister. Furthermore, we will see the return of some known characters, such as Isabela Keyes, who will assist Frank with what appears to be a new type of zombie virus.

In terms of game mechanics, we also have some tidbits of info. These first details might seem obvious to some, but they confirm the return of Frank West's camera for taking photos of the environment, and the return of the time limit mechanic. This latter mechanic would appear as the director makes different threats to Frank and the survivors, such as blowing up the studio in case they don't follow his orders.

We also can't discard the return of the rescuing survivors mechanic, another one of the signature elements of the franchise that always managed to appear to a greater or lesser extent. The strong presence of these characters in the plot may indicate the mechanic's return, but whether it has been downplayed or if it is even present is unknown to us.

Well, sometimes devs make a better job a 2nd time, the people behind the awful Rambo game have since then only made good games, so things can change.

Just...i like Frank West and all, but it just feels lazy and boring to use him again.

I think after fans were not attaching to Chuck Greene and Nick Ramos as much as Frank West, Capcom was probably scared to try out another new protagonist.

Thank fucking god. I adore these games. Was wondering if Capcom was just going to sit on it. Really interested to see how many zombies they can put on the screen using modern hardware. I'm so happy about this.

Finally, I love this game séries So much !
1st game was a dream come true for me.
2nd excellent. Off the record was fun.
3rd was amazing, I would love a remaster.
4th game wasn't as good but still playable.
The remake was great but the censorship was lame.

A new is a "faaantastic" news for me if true.

Never played any of the Dead Rising games but have watched all cutscenes from every single one of them so will do the same for this one. I like the crazy human enemies as bosses. Frank West was always the coolest and I like the alternate route where
the reporter chick lives

Perhaps this could be the first one I'll play.

With Capcom Vancouver having been closed, I hope the game goes back to a development team in Japan. The first was really the only stellar game in the series. DR2 wasn't bad, but it's been a steady decline since then.

Hard to be excited about the setting when Dead Island 2 just gave us a zombie outbreak in Hollywood.

I'm still interested. DR 1 & 2 were a good time. They should be able to make another good one.

How about a new Mega Man, Capcom?

Yeah no, I am not even hyped for re9 mate and RE is my most favourite franchise, also my very first game on the ps1.

But they started to make the characters either ugly or less feminine. I want my code veronica big ass claire back. I want Helena with her police outfit back. Instead we get sticks without curves.

Hollywood, huh? Too bad the people making the game probably don't have the balls, or are unaware of what's happening in Hollywood. The setting is perfect for an incredible satire of wokeness and all that shit

I hope this turns out great and is not designed by committee.

Can't be worse than 3 and 4
Dead Rising 3 was awesome. It had many mechanical improvements from Dead Rising 2. The bosses were awesome. It had a decent story. Cool city-sized sandbox playground with collectibles.

Funny. I was more attached to Chuck Greene. They butchered any redeeming qualities of Frank West in Dead Rising 2: Off The Record. As for Nick, I just hope he is not as much of a wimp in cutscenes because with customization he was a badass in gameplay.

Scary news. Dead Rising is a top franchise of all time for me but I'm not confident that Capcom "gets it". The remaster was okay but it was too easy and had a lot of questionable changes. Frank West is one of my favorite game characters of all time but do we really need him in the lead again? Especially with the new VO this is concerning news. Tell a new story in a new small environment (Hollywood could be a great choice, actually) and focus on the time management.

I'm just not entirely convinced we won't get a Dynasty Warriors clone with a slapstick story again instead of any kind of continuation of what the first two games were doing
