I love the self shadowing effects in this game, the shadows look so smooth. Very good looking!

Btw these look like scans to me. ;)

What, you think that the black letters in the sky are just the print on the other side? Well you're wrong, this is an integral part of the game, which is why it brings special glasses (more details to come).
 
Looks cool. Reminds me of Silent Hill for obvious reasons.


Cue someone bitching about bloom.
 
Even the title "Alan Wake" just screams "Don't click me, I'm probably completely uninteresting!"

Out of absolute boredom I clicked my way into this thread. And the pictures confirmed my presumption. I'd seen about a dozen references to this Alan Wake thing before, but never bothered to look at any details because of how dull the name is.
 
Why are people complaining? That looks amazing, and I love the expansiveness of the environments.

Good point. If those are boring then whole SH series would have to be as well by default. I notice though alot GAF is "follow the leader" if someone with recgonizable name posts first, then you get copy cat posts below it dictating the thread.

Wha? I think this looks quite good, but it's not really all that similar to Silent Hill's art direction...

More absolute beauty.

The best thing is that it is running on real hardware, realtime, interactive. This is the minimum performance to expect.

And for those complaining that the screens look boring - it is hardly a surprise that only daytime screenshots have been released. After sunset, all hell breaks loose...

Keeping this as my single most wanted next gen game.

Hmm...

That DOES sound cool in the context of these shots. The shots have a very cool, isolated appearance to them. If they can successfully pull off the right nightmarish conditions (which I believe they can, based on those MP2 dream sequences), this could really be a great experience.

Heh, I think that virtually every great game released these days has pretty generic, "gamey" art direction. Developers rarely risk it messing with basics - Windwaker thought the industry a lesson (I didn't like the game but the art was cool).
 
The shots are obviously staged for PR purposes, hence Allan Wake (A. Wake, Remedy was way ahead of most of you in the pun departement) is standing around in pretty backgrounds looking pensive.

I have high hopes for this one.

Well, I also think there are varying levels of good design. I don't think Halo is generic, but it certainly isn't something really great in that regard either.

Konami has some of the best art direction in the industry IMO, though...
 
Is Alan Wake the only character in that game, looks kinda lonely.
