New Animal Crossing pic (with wireless signal strength meter!)

AnimalCrossingDS.jpg

From the Nintendo press site!

That little icon in the lower left hand corner makes me sooo fucking happy! :D

I'm startign to get a feeling, a disappointing one, that people are not going to use DS's features in any significant way. That is, significant enough to make it a selling point. My heart is slowly sinking.

My gut's telling me that Nintendo's going to implement wireless link play, and not WiFi play. Which - for a game like AC - could really help the DS out.

I had to crack out Windows Magnifier to see what that icon was. Is that a wireless signal indicator!?? :D

Would be cool if they did both. Doesn't WiFi eat up more juice than the wireless link?

I have no idea, If I had a gun to my head, I'd lean towards "yes." But, you know, Animal Crossing would probably do well to have bonafide, online play. Why limit yourself to just the people near you that have a DS?

I agree, it would be pretty damn cool to get some online play on the DS. I've never played Animal Crossings before though. What is the point of the game?

It's a perpetual game, like The Sims. It really has no point other than to just spend your day making sure some little creature's digital day is apparently much better than your own.

Animal Crossing is one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played, when sharing a village with a friend or two. How incredibly great this game would be if it could be played with friends not within 100 feet of me.

Animal Crossing for GC should have been online in the first place. I'll buy an online version if they put one on Revolution, but I won't be paying for an inferior version for handheld.

I however am Animal Crossing's bitch!

Since every game on the XBox doesn't use the HDD or the BBA I guess those are gimmicks too right?

Animal Crossing actually does use the dual screens, when you're typing in messages, the bottom screen becomes a touch key board so you can quickly type in letters and what not.

Yeah, its part of a minigame where you dodge bird droppings.

Actually, what would be great is if you got to play Duck Hnut on the top screen, and whatever you kill lands, and then your character eats it for dinner.

All they have to do is implement a WiFi mode and people will be able to play online regardless.

I'll hold off buying a DS until this is released, then BAM!

I prefer gaming on my television so anything else is inferior IMO. Even screenshots shown to actual scale look a bit crap compared to AC for GC.

As Animal Crossing works best in small doses, most would argue that its supposed to be a handheld game...esp an online version.

My guess is that you can fly a kite, it seems something a Japanese developer would include in a game wear you match outfits and umbrellas

I'll bet this screen is from a "freelook" mode. Notice the little arrows in the upper corner.

it look like they would be used to flip the screens.

but, that doesnt make sense. nevermind :p

I wish you’re character was an animal and not a human, and you got to either

Create you’re animal from scratch choosing body parts etc..

Or

Have you’re animal made via a 10-20ish question survey!

Just would make you’re character a bit more unique

Oooh, I didn't notice that. Now that you point that out, I bet that when the gameplay is on the bottom, you control the character with the stylus and maybe some other stylus-necessary things and who knows what happens in the sky, or you can switch it and the inventory will appear on the bottom.

The beautiful thing about the DS is I dont have to worry about them implementing some gimmicky connectivity that requires a GameCube to play the game. :D

What's sad is that it looks almost exactly like the GCN version. What a horrible job Nintendo did with that title, they could have done a thousand times more polishing than what they did. It looks nice on DS, seeing as it looks the same as GCN.

Hey, same with the original Animal Crossing!

That's because it was ported from the N64 version. I'm glad they didn't spend a long time tweaking it. I loved it the way it was.

It does. You really notice it if you've played the original a lot.
