Has it actually been confirmed that DS has a real wifi online mode?

It has 802.11-compliant hardware inside in addition to the wireless link technology, but it's very much a wait-and-see as to whether or not developers use it.

Frankly, it's not that interesting until something happens with that. If this game is "play with Billy in 3rd grade across the hall" than it's snoresville for anyone older.

any larger version of this around? :lol

For anyone speaking of the little wireless stength indicator meaning WiFi...it's in the shots of Mario 64 DS as well. And we already knew there was four players able to converse in a village. This is no close to Online than it was before.

This game is gonna make me buy a DS when it comes out >_<.
I can bypass FFIII, FFCC, and all those other Square offerings, but not this.

Okay, i've completely misunderstood the wireless capabilities of the DS. i thought the WiFi and the Nintendo wireless were different radio technologies, and not just different protocols. It doesn't affect local area play, so i'm not really concerned.

Also, what happened to the alerter function? i haven't seen anything on Nintendo's revised DS site about it, but i remember reading that the DS could alert you when another user was in the area. Wasn't this on the old DS site? If not, i'm really disappointed, because this would be a great way to always have people to play with, build DS aware, and a DS community.

I'm glad I'm not going to be the only one buying a DS when this comes out. I met a guy at my campus the other day who said he felt the same way too.

Scoot better be in this game.

Turn up the DS as loud as you can and have Totakeke play "K.K. Love Song" during one of your classes.

I will do it! I've also forced my animals to say "Asswipe" in Animalese, and then gone to my brother's little friend's towns, recruiting my ass-wipe animals there. I spread the LOVE.

Actually, that'll be a problem. I don't have any classes on Saturday at 8pm. And I'm not picking any weeds after changing my clock.

What's sad is that it looks almost exactly like the GCN version. What a horrible job Nintendo did with that title, they could have done a thousand times more polishing than what they did. It looks nice on DS, seeing as it looks the same as GCN.

This game isn't about looks, it's about personality.

I think DS is too gimmicky. Its almost impossible for a developer to embrace all of the differences in one title.

Two screens in particular seem irrlevant.

Touch is good - look at Animal Crossing pattern designer for a good example.

But the killer is wireless multiplayer (which PSP also has). Removing the need for additional cables etc is a fundamental shift which can only be a good thing.

Only thing I'm not sure about is online. Discovery methods for local wireless are easy "hey John, do you want to play Mario?". Add in online and you suddenly need messaging/friends/context awareness shit that isn't easy to do.
