New ATI drivers are out!

I'm rocking the Catalyst Control center... now should I just install the 4.11s over the 4.10 or do a fresh install?

do these support the mobility 9600 series?

nm they don't. Need to wait for the hacked version I guess :\

I got my display drivers to 4.11 but the catalyst control center had an error in the installation. I ran the application again, but I can't simply choose the control center without installing the display drivers again. Is it OKAY to just install the display drivers again without removing them first? What is the catalyst control center anyway? Is it absolutly necessary?

The control center is not necessary at all. It's just a more user friendly interface. you still have the same control without the control center by going to the "advanced" properties under your "display" properties.

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

I used to have 43 fps in the Source Stress test with my 9800 pro and 2x AA
This driver brought me up to 73!

It was clearly tailor made for the source Engine.

awesome, I bought my 9800 for this game a year ago. Can't wait to try it out. :)

5500 in 3mark o5

107 fps in source test (4xAA, 8x AF, 1280 x 960, full everything)

x800 xt
amd 64 3500+
1 gb corsair xms dual channel

Should I be getting higher?

EDIT: Thats 3dmark 05

I get 5650 tops on a 9800 pro, athlon 2500+ XP, and a gig of ram (PC 2700). You're damned right you should be doing better.

I haven't got the new drivers but I was doing a max of 81 fps in the stress test.

Athlon Xp 2400+
Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
512mb ddr266

Source stress test @ 1024x, no aa/af: 60-61 fps.

3dmark 2003 score: 5360

WHY IS MY SOURCE BENCH SCORE SOOOO LOOOOOW?!?!?!??!?!?!

Urgh, it's driving me crazy.

Oh, and no difference in performance with these new drivers...

I'm guessing maybe your RAM or processor is holding you back...

Ok, but why does CK score within 300 3dmarks of me, but gets 20fps higher on the source stress test? The amount of ram shouldn't matter there, and his processor isn't much faster. 266-->333 ram and marginal cpu boost (+newer mobo) accounting for 20 fps increase? There has to be something else going on, as far as I can tell.

Yeah, and my FPS didn't change at all with the new drivers. From 60 to 60. ...Probably going to try formatting before HL2 hits.

Always always always always ALWAYS uninstall the ATI drivers before installing new ones! If you don't, you may (90% chance) get glitches.

I've found the Control Center to be a bit of a resource hog. Not installing it and using the old Control Panel hurts nothing, so it's up to how many resources you care to spare for it.

Die.

heh, sorry, just a little comp envy.

Well I saved up from my internship and built it this past weekend. I upgraded from an athlon 1ghz with a radeon 9500.

My new case is so kick ass. Lian - li, its beautiful.

there is my comp. Though the memory on the graphics card is actually 1000 mhz not 500.

How can I increase performance? Should I be getting 7000+ for 05?

03: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=3345759

11,000 :)

NO NO NO, His 3Dmarks are from 05 not 03...You WISH you were getting anything above 5k in 3DMark05....

I'm getting 12 FPS more in the Stress Test, going from 60 to 72 FPS. When a lot of shit going on in the background. I reckon I should be able to push another 3 or so with a clean reboot.

But when changing the resolutions, AA and AF a lot the whole stress test would go bad. Every highlight (lack of better word, the thing they showed in the HDR movie) would be purple instead of the white/yellow. A CS:S restart fixed it though

I have a somewhat unrelated ATI Vid card driver question (FUCK HALF LIFE 2)

I've got a few abandonware games that don't like my rather old ATi vid card. Every time I try to initialize said games, I get the error "Screen Init Failed" In the ole' Dos line input box. When I have my vid card set as generic and using generic drivers, however, they play beautifully, albeit fucked up. I've heard that there are ATi drivers that fix this problem... somewhere. Where can I find them and how can I fix this major problem?

Er.. I meant that I get 5650 in 3Dmark 03

I had troubles with my Radeon x800 PRO when I first bought and installed it. I was getting at max, 30fps in the ORIGINAL Counter-Strike when there was more than 1 guy on the screen. I tried everything, nothing worked. I had to reformat my computer, and now all is cured.

Wanted to bump this up because I had problems with half-life 2 because of these drivers. I would get periodic texture corruption. Usually seemed to happen after 5 min, or so. As if the game ran out of texture memory. If I turned on AA it would happen much faster. I'm now using the 4.9 drivers with 6 times AA, 8 times Anisotropic and nary a hitch.

I have a 9800 pro, btw.

heh I just downloaded 4.11 last night (oddly enough it fixed the crashes that were happening for me on Vampire... so far *crosses fingers*), but I skipped the Control Center.

So it's good? I guess I'll get it when 4.12 final hits.

someone walk me through the uninstallation process again. I've forgotten how since 4.09

edit: And am I going to notice any significant boost with these? I don't have HL2.

Go to the folder where your ATI drivers are installed in. There should be a folder called UninstallAll. Inside will be an .exe file that well, uninstalls your ATI drivers.

anyone notice their system running worse after upgrading?

My screen is shimmering really bad now on anything above 60Hz, and I tested the visualization overlay thing in Winamp. It seems if I have it waiting for the screen retrace that it's going in a steady pattern from 60-40FPS and back again. It never did this before.

Anyone else experiencing such weird problems?

Did you uninstall your old drivers properly?
