New album get! Just in time for this blizzard, as someone above mentioned.

For the record, I thought Oversteps and Move of Ten are some of the best albums they ever released, with LP5 probably my favorite AE album ever.

I hope you didn't skip Move of Ten.

I have Move of Ten but didn't like it as much as Oversteps. I appreciate it but don't really enjoy it; much like Quaristice. Everything they do is interesting, it's just sometimes not enjoyable. When they hit that sweet spot though, they're incredible.

If you preordered thru Warp/Bleep you got an email allowing you to dl it early. Physical copy still shipping in March however. I cannot confirm if you can buy it now on there and get a download link.

You can. Go to bleep.com and you can DL it. The server is incredibly slow though. My purchase went through, but downloading the actual file is proving to be a hassle.

So far I'm slightly disappointed, it sounds very reminiscent of draft 7.3 and quaristice. Lots of drum and bass influences.

I haven't liked any of them much since untilted, but this one does have a few good beats on. Sort of vaguely gescom sounding in places

Best Autechre album ever? I know that is likely hyperbole but dear lord hook it to my veins now. Really dug Move of Ten & especially Oversteps so I assume they're on a super hot streak right now.

I think I must be listening to a different album than you are. Besides, everyone knows the best albums are tri repetae and incunabula

nope, Chiastic Slide or Untilted.

Anyway, trying to get the bloody thing to download now to see if it's hyperbole or not.

No, really, LP5.

I've been trying to DL this thing for almost 2 hours. I listened to some samples and I'm pretty psyched.

LP5 was my first Autechre album, so its a bit hard for me to judge, I've listened to it too many times. But I prefer Chiastic Slide because it is more open and atmospheric. I still don't think any Autechre album has matched the production/sound design of Chiastic. And those dark sinister melodies.

Edit: The download has started!!

Ae albums are pretty varied, so it's easy to have personal favorites vastly different from other people. I think LP5 is the perfect middle ground between their crazy beat experimentation and gorgeous melodies.

My first Ae album was Confield (!) which I think is also one of their best. Great rainy day background music. But they have been on fire in the past few years with Quaristice, Oversteps and Move of Ten. They're embracing melody without losing their experimental roots.

And I finally got the damn thing downloading. Soon.. so soon.

It's too early to evaluate it in scope of everything else. my fav is confield followed by Chiastic Slide.

Sounds alot like their live sets mixed with a bit of everything from their career, which is awesome.

Yeah I love Confield too and the rest. Although I still think they should have released Quaristice Versions as the main album, and Quaristice as an EP.

This download is going to take forever...

hmm, just finished a full listen and i'm conflicted about it

theres definitely some good stuff on there, but as an album, its all over the place. theres no real consistency to it, parts of it sound like left overs from draft 7.3, other parts are hip hop gescom sounding stuff. there are some tracks that sound fresh and some that sound like they are re-using the same old sounds and effects one time too many.

if they cut it down in half it would be much better as an album

I don't know what i'm listening to at times but I think I like it. My only exposure to Autechre up to this point has been Amber so I've obviously got a lot of catching up to do.

Yeah, this one's gonna take a couple of listens to sink in. Not as immediate as the last three albums. But there have been a couple of great moments so far. It feels like one long piece.

My favorite band ever. Well, until 2002 that is.

Basscadet remixes still in my ears every now and then, Chiastic Slide rocks, LP5 is an absolute masterpiece, Tri Repetae is a classic, and the Lego Feet / SKAM / MASK stuff are great too. But recently? Errr...

For the anecdote I smoke a joint with Sean Booth and Rob Brown at a concert in Normandie 10 years ago, as they were looking for something to relax after their set :)

We discussed Roland Topor kids stuff on TV, quite unexpected....

10/10

A bit overwhelming to ingest all in one sitting, but the amount of things discovered so far by listening puts this up there as one of, if not their best album yet for me.

Yep, and like you say the album is really OUTER SPACE.

Maybe we should kill this thread now and carry on the discussion in the main Autechre OT.

Doesnt make sense to have two conversations going on at once.

Been wanting a melodic Autechre album for like a decade, seems that this is it. Amazing that they came back to it. These two guys are the best electronic musicians on the planet.
