New Details From the Devs of Killer Instinct: Fulgore, Spinal and Cinder Coming!

So how will the fighting community handle xbox one.

-No disk swapping so everyone will need to have the game on the system at tournaments

-Systems will need to connect to the internet for logging into xbl and for the DRM check.
In that producer interview he had mentioned they are working closing with MS to make sure that tournaments are possible. Someone already on here said about DRM that people can just ping in with their phone which sounds very plausible.

That will not be a problem. I believe this game will be digital anyhow.

no infinite air juggles with Cinder anymore, am disappoint. (this is all I remember from the arcade version. You would get air juggled in a corner.)

Is Cinder bringing his horse shit infinites? I hope so.

That was a glitch that was fixed in a latter revision of the arcade board, along with other glitches the game had. Also it added a few visual effects to Ultras and regular combos (the shadows)

Hope the soundtrack is as epic, and curious if Shadow Moves will make the cut.

Not thrilled with what I've seen so far, but seems too early to call.

More interested in the OST- is this coming, too? They better not reinvent the themes. I want the originals only longer and souped up.

The game looks mediocre so far and experience dictates that what they show is essentially what we'll get (irrespective of developer rhetoric implying otherwise).

Damn, this might turn out to be good after all, especially after watching this 26 mins impressions.!

Thank you for this, watching now!

Not all the way through, but he seems extremely impressed with it. Like excitingly so.

I knew I should have waited to see more from the developers before judging. I knew it. I jumped on the worry bandwagon like everyone else when it was announced to be Double Helix, and not Rare, but this newly formed team seems to honestly have a real passion and love for fighting games. They seem to be keeping it Killer Instinct, but they're willing to integrate other mechanics and stuff from other well respected franchises they love.

Amazing.

Orchid had some of the easier to do infinites.

He better be in:

Like fuck they aren't they were the best part of the original series. Without those this is not KI, this is KI: Lite.

Eh, Rare kinda threw them on for laughs and a lot of them were cheap gags. The only iconic ones I remember were Jago dropping the car or Orchid flashing her boobs. They were so cheap, they nearly left them out of the SNES version to keep in Cinder till they found a solution for to keep both. The ones in KI 2 were even worse. It's not going to cut me up and the idea they have of having Ultras that cause the stage to explode and the ability to cancel ultras into bigger ultras that cause the stages to absolutely destroy themselves seems a bit of a better idea since they reward absolutely styling on your opponent rather than a pre-baked cutscene.

I want all the fighters to come back :(.

Would be nice to get like 5-6 new ones. If the game is good I'll gladly pay for new ones in the future.

This has turned into my most anticipated xbone title after hearing the impressions, looking forward to see what they show at EVO.

Same here, i didn't believe a KI game will got me this hyped (truth be told, the OG KI had me hyped too, ki2 not too much and in fact it killed all my hype in the series completely.

I'm on my third serving of crow, FUCK!!

In that producer interview he had mentioned they are working closing with MS to make sure that tournaments are possible. Someone already on here said about DRM that people can just ping in with their phone which sounds very plausible.

that in itself is just... wrong.
the fact that they have to 'work' to make tournaments simply 'possible' is an absolute travesty.

a 'workaround' shouldn't have to exist. it should simply be there like it always has in the past with fighting games.

all that aside. Killer Instinct looks amazing!
then again, i was blown away at its reveal, anyway. One of my favourite franchises ever.

WOW. i feel like i'm going through a miniature 'RARE' renaissance.
Killer Instinct is back. with that classic KI theme... and the new Donkey Kong Country is being scored by David Wise.

It's like 1995 again. :D
just for ultimate nostalgia, they should make a new 'likker cuts' soundtrack to go with the release of KI.

Having watched through a video of No Mercies, Ultimates, etc recently... yeah, I don't care at all if they don't make it back in. I'd rather they spend the animation budget on making, say, different win poses for Normal / Special Move / Ultra KOs.

Orchid can keep to her tradition by making her have an Ultra that ends in a conveniently-obscured-from-the-player Wardrobe Malfunction.

The only 2 memorable fatalities for me in KI were Orchid's flashing, and Fulgore's Machinegun head. The rest are SO CHEAP LOOKING that I don't think anyone should really miss them.

Now I WOULDN'T mind seeing Stage-fatalities come back, in a campy way. Such as being able to knock someone into the already-destroying stage, out a window, through the wall, etc. The stage destruction that's already there actually looks really cool.

How does everyone feel about the character design? Also the smoothness of the old games seems to have been lost. Dont know how i feel about the look of saberwolf, one of my favorite characters. BETTER HAVE THUNDER.

I like them enough, actually. Jago looks better designed than the Plastic-action-figure look had in the old days, and I like how Inhuman Saberwulf looks. They could have been a lot safer with the designs, but they actually went in and tried at it, and I appreciate that.

I love my Japanese-bred designs, so I'm normally very offput by western design studios characters, but these didn't rub me the wrong way at all. They've got much of the style of SFIV's characters, but they're not ripping them off exactly, and they don't look just like Mortal Kombat's awkwardly dead-ish style.

I really like the animations they have, though. The KI "Ramping it up!" speed up combo loops, the over-done particles, the taunts and key-framing of the moves, the random little details in the idle animations... they've don't a LOT better than I'd expect a game that "came out of nowhere" to be able to achieve.

I'm surprised that Orchid hasn't been announced already but we can all expect to see Orchid in the game. Hopefully Kim Wu is in this one, she was awesome.

Orchid is probably the E3 reveal. I really wanna see how she'd turn out, because female character design is a place where many art styles completely crash and burn.

On returning characters... Eh, the confirmed are actually enough to return for the start, plus Orchid. Chief Thunder is one of my old favorites, but heck, I wouldn't mind seeing him replaced by something more original, now.

Or all the next gen game reveals... this is actually my favorite. The Dev team has done a FANTASTIC job at showing it off, hyping it, and proving that they REALLY know how to respect the depth in what they're doing.

It's all so unexpected. The team, so far, has taken an admittedly middling fighting game series, and turned it into something that actually looks like it has a chance to be something unique and special.

Yeah, how dedicated the team is to this game is very impressive. Makes me think that MS really does care about games or they just got lucky with a great group of devs.

Probably a mix of both. I think MS care, from the "If devs don't protect their properties better, tanking sales will cause more studios to close!" side of things. So they make a bunch of business decisions that make them look like villains.

Yet, some of the people who get to work with them love it; and MS does not seem to be afraid of putting money towards people they truly believe in.

Which is what I think it happening here. KI to this level, much like Crimson Dragon (or even Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon before them), wouldn't be happening if not for them, sadly.

I think the team in question here is top class, though, so they are among the best they could run into. KI could have easily been thrown to a dev team with no love for the franchise, that would have made it as cheaply and straight-forward as possible, 90's-unpolish and all. But these guys are making a KI that actually deserves to come out in the 2010's, on next-gen hardware.

They don't really have a choice. If they want people to get over the DRM policies and the more expensive admission ticket then it requires top notch games.

and I thought people had honestly refrained from posting an orchid gif *sigh*

Taking out no mercy is like releasing a new mortal kombat with no blood / fatalities. The purpose of rebooting an older franchise from those days is to retain what sold it in the first place. I have no problem with them making a technically superior fighter to the original but as MK9 proved you do not have to do so at the expense of killing what nostalgia the fans have for the series.

Man is this real life KI is back :)

I can't wait to see what Spinal and Cinder and Fulgore look like please bring back Orchid not KI without her

But there were never really good in the first place (re-used animations, poorly implemented effects, lackluster pacing), and now, people would expect them to be REALLY good.

Do we want the team to concentrate more on making the fighters worthwhile, fresh to play, and with lots of unique moves / personal animations?

Or would we rather they spend their time modeling cars for Jago to drop from the sky, good "skin-melting" tech for Cinder's fatalities, unique bullet-hole models for kills by Fulgore, and unique frog-morphs for Orchid to turn the cast into, before she jumps on them?

While all that stuff would be fun, ESPECIALLY if give as much attention to detail as the rest of the game has so far, I'd much rather see more significant stuff, rather than things people will just end up skipping / not doing, once the "wow" factor wears off.

I would love to have all the characters from KI (especially Eyedol and Chief Thunder) and none of the chatacters from KI2 - well maybe swap Jago for for Tusk but I don't think that's happening.

Also what is this Free to Play stuff? Is the game going to be free to obtain and then you unlock characters etc?

No reason for everyone from the past ones to not be in. They didn't have that many characters anyway. And of course, unplayable bosses can go in the trash with the fatalities, in the interest of making a more legit fighting game. If you don't like the characters from 2, don't play them. If someone else plays them, then you get to beat them up. So win win.
