New DVD burner not showing up, and now old drive not showing up either.. help!

Does anyone have suggestions with this? I installed a new DVD burner and kept my old DVD drive in there (took out my CD burner). At first, both drives were recognized by windows, but the dvd drive did not have any power to it to open and close. So I went in, attempted to fix it, turned comp back on, and now neither are showing up in My Computer. When the computer starts up, neither are shown in the scrolling text showing the installed hardware either.

I've made sure they are plugged in correctly (the power cable ones definitely are, because both have power.. can open and close), but I just can't do anything with them. Windows doesn't seem them. Any suggestions?

It doesn't appear there's a problem with actual power to the drives though, since they are both lit up and opening and closing fine. Or maybe I'm just dumb. :D

How do I know if my comp can handle this new drive?

EDIT: I'm not familar with the whole master/slave thing with these drives either. Do I need to set these on these drives?

Maybe both of the are both set to MASTER? Are they on the same IDE channel? Check it out.

Drives come as MASTER by default.

Check Master/Slave/Cable Select, alot of HP/Compaq/etc.... pc's require drives to be in Cable Select or they wont work properly. Also, see if u can get into the bios to make sure it's picking it up properly.

Alright, I just checked out the whole Master/Slave thing, and yeah.. they were both set to the same. So I put the burner to Slave, turned on the comp.. and whammo.. still nothing.

How do I get into the bios to check out auto-detect and stuff like that?

Switch them, make the drive slave and the burner master. Master and Slave have to be in specific spots on the cable.

Alright, I'll try switching the slaves/masters settings on them, but I'm pretty sure they are matched up.. I have the DVD drive on top, set on master, and have the end connecter into it.. middle connecter for the slave burner.. hmm.. gotta double check though..
