Well, great, now the masses are finally gonna acknowledge the greatness that is Gradius. Or not :p. Now I want a Treasure-developed ultrahard Parodius!

Glad they ackowledged Gradius, but their moronic ways seem to have tainted Riddick's score. Clearly they were playing the game with their penises in their ears.

What...? The issue is already out? I got the last one only three weeks ago.

7 for Riddick, but 9 for Gradius? I love Gradius V but I can't imagine they gave such a high score...

You are right Dan. (It's you know who btw;-)

But Gradius is SLOW.
And Riddick is amazing.
And Edge has no editorial staff left.

(Call me re later)

spidey doesnt deserve more than 6, swinging is fun, everything else is shite.

IAWTP

Riddick does deserve more because of its technical beauty. The game is hella-short though, and I bet Edge doesn't really like that, especially when there's little replay value for it.

Gradius V is brilliant. Its a good game and reminds me of why I love gaming.

Riddick was good - I started wishing it would already end when at times it became more of a chore than enjoying the game. And I still think it looks very lo-res.

Regarding the pointless "up their own arse"-bullshit, I love it when in 5 years everyone will probably agree with Edge scores. They are good at filtering the hype-inflation that a lot of game reviewing suffers from.

Do people still swear by Edge scores?

Their reviews are fun and witty to read, and are also normally spot-on. But it's as if they get their cleaner to choose the final score. it's almost always a complete contrast from the actual review.

read their reviews. their scores belong in neverneverland, and would even make peter pan scoff.

Back in 1998, Edge gave 6/10 to Thunder Force V. Hopefully this means Gradius V is substantially better.

Gradius V is the best shoot-em-up I've played since Radiant Silvergun, can't get enough of it! Old school to it's core, but ridiculously polished and far more accessible than Ikaruga which although a great game was almost too hardcore for it's own good. Gradius V on the other-hand is tough but *very* rewarding. You seem to get a bit better, and a bit further, with each go. That's the sign of a well-designed game in my opinion :)

I'd definitely recommend it if you are an old-school shoot-em-up fan in general, and if you are fan of the Gradius games then it's a no-brainer. The limited edition bundle is especially good, you get an official "The Perfect" DVD with it. Haven't watched it yet, because I want to figure out my own tactics but as with Ikaruga it's probably going to be a right eye-opener when I do!

Definitely worth 9/10 in my opinion. If it was down to me I'd give it 10/10 so far! It's a true labour of love :)

Amazing score for Gradius, good job Treasure/KCET. Hopefully this means to more co-developed shooter revivals (Parodius, Slamander, Twinbee, etc). :)

Out of curiosity's sake, what did Edge rate other recent 2D shooters (Shiro no Shikigami 1-2, Ikaruga, Psyvariar, R-Type Final, XII Stag, etc)

Shikigami(1) 7 or a 6 - I can't remember off-hand, Ikaruga 8, Psyvariar 6, Border Down 6, Psyvariar2 7, RTF 8, DDP-DOJ 8, Espgaluda 8.

I beated the game :D
And i have 3 questions:

Don't read if you haven't finish it please!

SPOILER!!

1. I've seen you start from the beginning, the game is harder. Later i've seen it is called LOOP 2. How many loops there are? And there's a real end (i mean you don't start again) after how many loops?!:D

2. The EDIT mode i can use now pressing R1 in the "type screen" was available even before or i unlocked it beating the game?? :)

3. What is exactly what you unlock beating the game?

Thanks 4 help.
Great game. And i'm not a fan of the genre!!!
