More in the link, I'm actually liking how this looks a lot. Has there been any word on a release though?

Looks good. The graphics are really nice and colorful, and that stage concept for top/bottom screen is a FUCKING AWESOME idea. This is what the DS is all about. :D

Check out the other scans on that site as well as the previous pics in other threads. A key theme in the game is how the "RPG" portion plays out. The bottom screen will be the audience watching a "play" on stage with comments and all. The top screen will be the actual 2D cutscenes, movement gameplay, whatever that makes up the story of the game and hence the "play". It's ingenious and really shows how well the two screens can be used to create a really unique and funky experience.

Wait, so the audience in a way "rates" how youre playing the game, like they would rate the play? Or is it something else entirely?

There's too little actual information to make that call. But it's a possibility. From the screens so far the amount of people in the audience aren't consistant either so that might be another factor. But even assuming it's just there for jokes and off-beat parody of you "playing" out a play, it's still a fucking original concept and one only possible on the DS (not to mention how useful the touchscreen will be in this game for other features) at the moment.

An extension of what was done in Paper Mario 2?

In all the writeups, the audience bit of PM2 seemed pointless and forced. But in actual execution, I loved it!

Eh, this doesn't look so hot. Nothing really jumps out an strikes me as interesting. I'm much more fascinated by Crystal Chronicles DS. They better not drop the ball on that one.

Funny then that this was a GBA game less than a year ago. :P

Similar to how Square first GBA game (Chocobo Land) was actually a converted WSC game.

Not similar at all. Because Chocobo Land was already a WS game that was released, they simply added color to it and released it on the GBA. This is obviously not something they were working on the GBA and then just "ported" to the DS. Do you have a source that says this was a GBA or are you just talking out of your ass (AGAIN)? Sure Tokita might originally have been planning something for the GBA, but that's about as accurate as saying FFVII was original a N64 game. Egg Monsters Hero has been a DS game from ground up, every interview I've read indicates as such and the very gameplay and direction of the game would be impossible on the GBA. :P

Nope, Chocobo Land never saw actual WS release (it was ultimately killed along with Seiken Densetsu 2 and Final Fantasy III). You might be thinking Chocobo Dungeon or Hataraku Chocobo?

Johnnyram can confirm it, this is likely the Hanjuku game that was mentioned (though not officially announced) for GBA a while back.

And when did I talk out my ass before? I really try to use my mouth whenever possible. :P

Ah yes, I was thinking of Hataraku Chocobo/Dice de Chocobo, of which Chocobo Land was supposed to be the WSC sequel. The point was that Chocobo Land WSC to GBA was a clear port, even Square said so since Chocobo Land WSC was pretty much complete. On the other hand you have no basis for this Egg Monster claim which I think is pretty outlandish. :P

As I said again, he might have wanted to do a Hanjuku game for the GBA, but ended up making this instead. Assuming that one is the other when Egg Monster is completely built around the DS feature set is pretty dense.

Well every time you try to "correct" me in a thread. It always ends up like this, so I'm not sure what to expect anymore! First you try to claim that TOMY is owned by Bandai, then you try throw a claim around that Namco expected 1 million sales from XS Ep1 in Japan, after I attempt to assure you it is not true you insist that the 600k figure is only for XS Ep2 and not Ep1. If you only just fucking used google before shooting your mouth off on assumptions, then I wouldn't think that you talk out of your ass! >_<

Hataraku Chocobo (or Working Chocobo) is a raising simulation, not a board game. Chocobo Land was actually going to be the WSC version of Dice de Chocobo (itself being based off the PS1 version) but the project was moved to GBA. I'm sure a lot of assets were reused, but then I'd guess the same of Egg Monster Heroes (outside the touch mechanics, it looks like a stock GBA game).

I'd say adapted to the DS featureset is more likely... again, it seems pretty clear from the visual quality that GBA assets were probably reused. Only the battle engine mechanics themselves really scream DS, which would indicate a late term shift I think.

Well what I'm annoyed about is how my comment had nothing to do with the graphics or art asserts but you came in making it look like just another GBA port, while it's not. If you read what we've been talking about, I'm seriously feel this kind of design mentality is what the DS needs most of all. Transparent and logical usage of the DS featureset that adds to the game's interface and atmosphere without feeling tacked on or silly (like the Castlevania DS implementation for example which is just weak). Try to understand that before injecting anymore "it's a GBA game!" stuff into it. :(

Who said just another GBA port? I'm talking late term conversion, like the Chocobo Land example.

Sorry, I think you're misreading my intetions. They were more "funny/interesting because it started out as an GBA project", and less "OMG, DS has nothing but GBA portz!!". In the future I'll try to adjust for your delicate sensibilities.

I get to meet Uematsu in March (whoo!)

I dunno, I enjoy the eggs for the quirkyness of it all. Hopefully the game is good .
